  • Bright, clear, detailed video with good saturation/contrast, loud/clean audio, but some design drawbacks. Buy VIVIBRIGHT F40 Projector at Amazon (US): geni.us/A8fd [Amazon Affiliate Product Link]
    **UPDATE** Android version available!

    As far as I can tell the only difference between F30 and F40 is that the F30 doesn't have the giant status LED on the top. All other specs are the same. Model numbers with UP at the end have Android OS included.

    Which one is better, Vivibright F40 or Vankyo V600?

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can talk about the specs for the Vankyo v600, but keep in mind that I haven't used this projector in person so have not conducted a true side-by-side comparison with the F40. The Vankyo v600 rates their brightness in lux, but by all accounts, folks seem to say that it runs at about 4000 lumens, which is comparable to the lumens of the F40. They both output native 1080p, but the v600 has 2 HDMI ports versus 1 and also supported SD card, RCA-AV and VGA input, which are missing from the F40.
      Not sure about speaker performance, but I hear the fan on the v600 is loud. With an external speaker I don't notice the fan noise of the F40, but the same would probably be true of the v600. I'm also not a fan of the huge LED on top of the F40, but both projectors now include a travel case, which is nice. Based on specs and features alone, I'd say the Vankyo v600 is the better buy at nearly the same price point, although right now there's a clippable coupon at Amazon: geni.us/tsAkEB [Amazon Affiliate Product Link] for the Vankyo 600 that'll save you about 12%, so you can pick it up for slightly cheaper for a limited time.

    I received this projector yesterday. Your review is very fair and accurate. I wished I'd seen this before buying, but would have bought anyway. The biggest surprise was how loud the fan is (of some back and forth on Amazon's reviews), but find that it is not distracting while watching movies - it's about the same as my house central air system. Thanks for the great review, concise, accurate and informative.
    As for questions, has anyone used this projector's IR remote as a mouse for a connected Chromebook? If so, how?

      Thanks for the feedback! As for using the remote as a mouse, I didn't know you could do that, but I guess it makes sense if your computer has an IR receiver, it's just a signal after all. I don't have a Chromebook though, so I can't help you there!

      Hmm, I've only used small USB drives up to 32 GB in this projector. I'll have to try it out with a full size external hard drive and see... I haven't tried playing music off a thumb drive yet either, I'll give it a try and see if I encounter the same issue.

      @@vinnyhiggs38 Hi, so I did check with a 5TB hard drive and the projector was unable to read it. I believe it may have a max capacity that it can handle. I was able to get it to detect a 128 GB SSD in a USB3.0 hard drive enclosure and play some media off that, so it may be the case that it can't handle storage devices with higher capacities. It may also be because the HDD I was using required external power, while the SSD drive was powered only off the USB.
      I did not find an issue with playing music (mp3) from any thumb drive and adjusting the volume (whether using the remote or controls in the back) so I'm not sure what would cause that issue.

    first of all, great review with crystal clear pros and cons of the projector. with that being said. have you tried 4 K content from Amazon 4K fire TV. if yes, does it play alright.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback! I actually haven't because I have the Gen 2 Fire TV Stick, which only goes up to 1080p, but from what I understand, the projector doesn't support 4K video anyway. IF it can, it would simply downscale to 1080p, but I'm pretty positive that the projector won't display 4K at all. I haven't seen any mention of it in the specs or literature, and I was *not* able to get the projector to play a 4K MP4 file recorded with my Sony a6300 camera, though this could be an internal software/codec problem. If the 4K feed is coming from the HDMI port directly, the projector may just downscale, but I'm not positive it would work.

    So we are trying to install some apps via the app store. We get to the point where we are on the specific page of the app in the app store, but then it is impossible to hit the install button using the remote. It feels like it does not respond in the app store at that point. All buttons, like return, still work except for up-down-left-right and enter. Any feedback on how we can hit install?

      Hm, do you have the version of this projector that has an Android OS built-in (I believe it's the F40UP/F30UP)? Sorry, mine lacks an OS, so I don't have any specific experience with it, but I wonder if for your version of the projector you could plug a USB mouse into one of the USB ports and use that to navigate the OS. That might allow you to click on the button instead of using the remote control.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there. Someone already asked this question, but I'll re-post my answer here for you. I haven't used the Vanyo v600 personally, so all my comments here are observational only and not based on experience. The Vankyo v600 rates their brightness in lux, but it sounds like most folks say its about 4000 lumens, which is comparable to the lumens of the F40. They both output native 1080p, but the v600 has 2 HDMI ports versus 1 and also supported SD card, RCA-AV and VGA input, which are missing from the F40.
      Reportedly, the fan on the v600 is loud according to other reviews. With an external speaker I think the fan noise would be tolerable for both the v600 and F40. I'm don't like the LED on top of the F40 which the v600 doesn't have; both projectors now include a travel case too. Based on specs and features alone, I'd say the Vankyo v600 is the better value, and there's a clippable coupon right now which makes it a little cheaper: geni.us/tsAkEB [Amazon Affiliate Product Link] You can also checkout the F30, which is very similar to the F40 but is less expensive and doesn't have the huge LED on top: geni.us/l72w [Amazon Affiliate Product Link]

    Why does it show android on the box and remote but not include android os?

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two versions of the projector, one with Android OS built-in and the other without. The F40UP and F30UP have Android OS while the F30/F40 do not. I haven't seen the F40UP for sale anywhere yet, so it may still be in pre-release. The F30UP is available on Amazon, Banggood, and Gearbest (under various brands). I put the links for those in the description if you want to check them out. As far as I can tell the only difference between the F40 and F30 is that the F30 does not have the large LED status light on top, which now I wish I had gotten instead. I may still end up getting the F30UP and swapping out the F40 later.

    Hi there! Nice review! So since you said to ask if we had any questions...
    ...Is there a way to have external speakers working at the same time as the internal speakers? I mean, for them connected not muting internal speakers.
    Thanks!!

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, well, sort of. I found that if I have speakers connected via SPDIF, and I leave the SPDIF setting off but change the surround sound setting (doesn't matter what you choose), both the external speaker and the internal speaker will play audio at the same time, although there is a very slight sync mismatch. Turning on SPDIF (after both speakers are producing sound) turns off the internal speaker (external keeps playing) while adjusting the projector volume cuts out the external speaker (internal keeps playing). To get this dual speaker functionality back, cycle the SPDIF mode setting on/off and then change the surround sound setting again.
      I'm pretty sure it's not really designed to work that way and it's just a software glitch that allows that to happen. With the AUX cable, I wasn't able to get both the internal and external speaker to play at the same time.

    • @guillermoperreaudepinninck4613
      @guillermoperreaudepinninck4613 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReviewedByPhil Wow! Highly appreciate the time you spent to figure this out.
      Hmmm, so there is a workthrough...but with a sound sync mismatch....bfff, not sure if i'd like that.
      Anyway, the speakers I pretend to use have rca or 3.5mm jack, no spdif...for that i would need some kind of box converter right? Not sure if it's worth the hassle. The thing is that I wanted to make use of the internal speakers to fight back the noisy fan...so the people watching at the back (far from front speakers but near the projector) can benefit from an improvised surround sound instead of the noisy fan...make some contrast for the noise and be usefull at the same time.
      What do you think? The fan noise is a big con...
      THANXX

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Guillermo Perreau de Pinninck With an adequate speaker or sound system, the fan noise isn't a big deal, even without the internal speaker being used for support. We were using ours on the 3.5mm jack and the 2.1 channel audio was adequate in allowing us to ignore the fan. We actually placed our soundbar behind us, not in front of the projector, so it provides a bit of a buffer from the fan. The sound sync is a major bummer if you want to keep in the internal speakers on and while it is slight, it's still noticeable to the human ear. If you use a 5.1 system, this will be your best bet for creating an enveloping environment that can mute the fan noise from in front and behind.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hm, no I haven't seen that issue on the projector, though I've experienced it with televisions before and it usually indicates that the video control board has gone bad. A lot of times it's a blown or leaking capacitor that causes it, but the only fix would be to open it up and replace the board or damaged capacitor. If your projector is new, I recommend reaching out to the vendor where you got it for a replacement/warranty claim.

      Performance-wise they are the same projector. That is, the brightness, contrast, color etc. will all be the same so the quality is not affected. The only difference would be the user experience as you would be able to use the Android operating system on the projector without having to plug in a separate device like Amazon Fire TV or Chromecast. If you want to keep the USB and HDMI ports open for other devices but still use Netflix and other streaming apps via the projector's OS (has built-in WiFi) then go with the F40UP, but if you plan on using one of the inputs for a streaming device like Apple TV or Roku anyway then I would say you could save some money and get the F40.

      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you buy from Alibaba, you probably have to pay shipping fees which is why the price looks so low. It's also likely coming from China so the delivery time is typically 2 weeks or more and there may be import taxes that you may have to pay. If you buy from Amazon, the product is shipped from a US warehouse and you would receive it in 2 days with a Prime membership. This faster method is already accounted for in the cost. The price difference is likely due to the different fees the supplier has to pay to list on the different platforms. I say there's probably not much difference between ordering from Amazon and Alibaba in terms of reliability, though the shipping speed and price may vary slightly, it will be the same product. I didn't find the F40 version of this projector on Aliexpress but I saw that they have the F30 and F30UP (with Android OS) on Aliexpress. If price is your primary concern I think it's safe to go with whatever platform offers it the cheapest at the moment.

      Interestingly, I feel like the F40 was released first and if I had the choice to go back and get the F30, I would have selected that one over this because I could do without the LED on top which is like the only difference. Marketing-wise they say the F40 can project up to 300" while the F30 goes up to 180" but realistically, I think given they have the same lumens rating, the brightness would drop off significantly over 200" and you probably won't want to go much bigger than that with the F40 anyway.

The M18 has a slightly higher lumen rating at 5500 versus the 4200 of the F40. Also, I like the physical features better, with 2 HDMI inputs, SD card input, RCA input (1/8" jack) and a VGA input, though one of the USB ports is power output only. It's also nice that the tilt foot on the front of the M18 is adjustable, whereas the one on the F40 is not. The M18 also has Android 6.0 as the OS. I checked this morning and the corners of the screen ARE ever so slightly out of focus versus the middle of the screen. This is due to the curvature of the lens and a minor fish-eye effect. For me, I didn't find it so much of an issue as I could read text printed in those areas without a problem. The distorted areas aren't huge, maybe like 5% of the screen overall. I'm not sure how much more detail you need at the very edges of the screen to be effective for gaming, but with Path of Exile up on the screen, I didn't have any trouble viewing maps, inventory, chat etc. It would really depend on the game, your gaming style, and personal preference. You can try averaging out the distortion by changing the focus slightly so that the middle of the screen is "less sharp", but not so much to be blurry, while enhancing the focus in the corners. This can be done without huge detriment to the overall image quality.

      Also it's 5000 lumens but lumen rating in ansi is 360 which is not so great for daylight i guess what are your thoughts? I asked because i currently own LG PG65U which is 600 ansi lumens and not that kind of usable in daylight it's awesome projector but 720p native so comparing mine with F40 the advantages with F40 is 1080p native and 20,000 more lamp hours .... I need an advise from you whether it will be a justified upgrade from my lg just for resolution?

    VIVIBRIGHT F40 is terrible. don't waste any cent on it. I got one, 5 month ago, worked like 3 times. The lamp is not working anymore. all the red colors are given in black. The color adjustment on the machine is simply nonsense. The customer service simply does not exist. No response. I dont even want to start on the noise level. Would happily ignore that if at least red was red. rip off.

      No, unfortunately and surprisingly, this projector does not recognize 4K signals.
