In this video I swap the front sprocket on the Honda Monkey 125 from the factory standard 15 tooth to a 14 tooth.
    TORQUES:
    Sprocket bolts - 9ft.lb / 12Nm
Rear axle nut - 44ft.lb / 59Nm (incorrect on video overlay)
This is a well known and very cheap/simple upgrade that is thought to allow the engine to work better within its power band.
You MAY loose a little top-end speed however some people report actually gaining speed as the engine doesn't feel bogged down at the top end.
This is very subjective as it will be effected by atmospheric conditions, rider weight, style etc.
What it definitely does do though is allow slightly better acceleration and manners around town.
It's a quick mod so if you don't like it then you can always swap back at no cost.
    WARNING:
SOME riders have reported the ABS light coming on during use after this mod.

Hi, I like your videos. So keep doing those.
Little tip. When advising to remove the master link on a chain it’s good to also point out that it should put back on with the closed end towards the direction of rotation. For you perhaps logical but for others not so much.

A good point! And worth mentioning, thank you.

Thanks for the torque specs. Huge help. Actually doing this today. Nicely shot.

I think you posted the front sprocket bolt torque specs again for the rear axle, my manual says the rear axle should be 44 lbf·ft (59 N·m, 6.0 kgf·m)

Great little video . Do have the issue where your abs light flashes? I tried a speedo healer but it didn't help :-(

Not meant to be critical, but if you're going to bother looking up the torque specs, why not use a torque wrench when fastening bolts?

Oh hi! - Basically I lent it to a friend a few weeks ago and can't get it back till after the lockdown situation. I have a bigger one but that doesn't go down low enough.

Thank you for your video. The 14T makes the bike a little slower i guess. Is there a 13T or 12T that would lower the speed of the bike even more as im 60yo and feels this Monkey is very fast for me.

Im sure you can get smaller yes, will help acceleration but lower top speed.

May I ask how much of a real world difference the smaller sprocket makes?

Am I wrong or did you post the sprocket torque specs again instead of the rear axle torque specs at the end there?

It is - Yes! I've only got around 600 dry miles on it hence the condition.
It would probably have >2000 if this virus hadn't kicked in :-(

Is it safe to ride the monkey on long rides (50 miles or longer) with the RPM's so high? Do you think that will damage the motor? I had the 14t sprocket on a long ride recently and I hated hearing that thing scream the whole way. I liked having the 4th gear (overdrive) in the original sprocket. Should I put the original back on?

    • @hondamonkeytv4138
      @hondamonkeytv4138  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's fine, just don't sit with it absolutely topped out, screaming.
However its not a pleasant ride at high speeds to be honest.
