- This must be the most popular unison bass line ever, 'Sir Duke' by Stevie Wonder! In my full video lesson over on the TalkingBass TH-cam Channel, we break it down and work through it step by step.

Again. You have an excellent sense of time and a good teaching style. Thanks for chart.
Why are Stevie Wonders basslines always so challenging?! >< hahah
I think its because the majority of them were played using a synth. Parts that are easy on piano are very difficult on Bass/guitar
Also, Nathan Watts played that lick!
In this case it's the swung sixteenths and the fact you're playing it like the horns would.
A classic bassline using most of the fretboard. Good work Mark!
sir duke has to be the best song for bass
Certainly it's up there. Maybe the only song anywhere close is Want You Back
Your trill/ vibrato fingerings gives a cool fretless tone. Not easy to master.
What is the technique?
I’m just learning this line right now. Just picked up my bass again. It’s been about 10 years. Holy shit I’m rusty and the kids have gotten good!
your groove and your technique are really excellent
Thanks mark
It's such an amazing song. I like it at both tempos.
Excellent for my kids
My favorite youtube bass teacher..ty for another one ❤
Thanks for your Channel
Wow! Very talented!!!
I use this riff to help all my guitar and bass students learn the pentatonic scale extension.
Bass is the best instrument man. I’ll die on that hill
i like your teaching method because you make it easy to follow. could you do the bass line to aphrodisiac by kevin toney? i cannot find it anywhere on youtube. i'm looking for someone to show the piano and guitar as well. hope you can do it.
Sos un genio
Wonder-ful.
so refreshing a jazz with flats
I run flats on the exact same bass.
So good.
Mastering the lick, yeay
Nice
❤❤❤
Yah!
Hola Tenes el Tab?😊
Now I want to hear a stony reggae cover at 80bpm.
missing the ghost notes!
You left out the muted notes which still sounds great and easier for people like me who just never learned the funk
Have you seen the full video? This is a note for note transcription of the isolated bass. What you see and hear is how Nate played it.
Amazing song! Sadly this part isn’t even the hardest part of the song 🥲
Def sounds weird without the ghost notes in there
How bout 155bpm 😂 I had to do that with my band it was ridiculous but we somehow pulled it off
Watching you play doesn't seem like a funny thing... smile a little man
Are you aware this is a clip from a full lesson?
90bpm is best.
I think it sounds much better at 90 but 107 is the original
Pro

Beware: Lots of incorrect notes here.
@@glissandostride lol. It’s actually 100% accurate. I suggest you watch the whole video instead of the short.
Actually starts up an octave…
Check out the full vid (this just a clip). I use the isolated bass track to re-transcribe it. This isn’t at all how I’ve played it most of my life. I find loads of things in there that Nate played and phrased differently. The notes and phrasing here are correct.
I must have accidentally hit dislike. Sorry. Only a tone deaf bass hater would tick dislike on your posts.
It looks difficult
When your metronome starts rushing 🤨
