    I have never tried doing it that way. Over 30 years of doing electronic repair. Just proves there will always be more to learn. Awesome troubleshooting technique.

      This was my first time to try it as well although I had seen other techs mention it.

    Love it the voltage injection with no heat emanating from anywhere and using the low current draw great job.

    Simple but rewarding! A small tip you might know already: particularly for broken smd capacitors, you can remove them with your soldering iron. You might night a slightly bigger tip but usually just keeping the tip at the side will flow the solder within a few seconds so you don’t have to use hot air which might take time on ground plane and/or damage plastics etc. 🙂

    10:15 - Its important not to have ground connection 5-10cm away like you did it now. Distance to short is important for both probes. Longer path to BLACK probe, more mV it will show. Then you somewhat increase in sensitivity. You can see 1mV and 2 mV differently... then touch on components and you will pinpoint it 100%.
    Your method is OK, but also, you can start poking component it self. Left and right contact of SMD capacitor for example. Some will show 500mV, damaged one will show 0.1 mV.
    Also try not to use those flexible probes, sharp needle is good for good contact which is a must.
    This circuit for kelvin probe, works also with USB 5V and LM317 voltage regulator. Its very useful.

    • @ToltecMerc
      @ToltecMerc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. The ground path should be as short as possible. Fortunately, the PS5 has quite a large ground plane.

    Thank you for posting this one. It was a nice watch really enjoyed as you used your power supply a lot in this one and having just got the cheaper version of the power supply myself it was educational, interesting and entertaining. I will avoid the PS5's for now though as I am new to all of this and therefore will be trying to just fix simple devices. You was spot on with the guess as to where the short might be at the start of the video, I say guess but really that is experience.

    @ToltecMerc I was wondering, do you have any background in electronics or engineering? It all seems to come very natural to you and to get where you are is sort of what I strive for in my own little fixer hobby.
    I also hope that people appreciate just how hard many of the fixes you perform actually are even when you have the tools. It's very impressive.
    At any rate I wish you all the best on this youtube escapade and I hope you get the recognition you deserve because your videos are woefully under-watched.

      @@ToltecMerc That's good to know. Oh, by the way in one of your videos you said that some repair was boring but I assure you even the simple stuff like changing port is something people like me find usefull and interesting. When finding parasitic draws in modern automobiles we measure the voltage drop across fuses to help pinpoint the circuit causing the draw. I am kind of confused by your method. I figured you would see a higher drop across the fuse due to the lower resistance in that circuit. Is it because you are measuring the entire circuit after the fuse that is shorted you get a lower voltage drop reading?

    Thanks for the informative video it's really good. I have a friend's console that has the exact same problem as the PS5 in this video it died in a power outage while in rest mode. I've gone over the whole mobo and couldn't find any issues except on the opposite side of the South bridge and there is a lot of shorts.
    Does this mean the South bridge is bad?

    • @ToltecMerc
      @ToltecMerc  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have shorts on those small inductors under the South Bridge, it's probably dead. Remember one of those coils will have battery voltage on it which will mess with resistance readings.

      You'll need to press the little white box with (2)C's in the bottom right corner of the video player, there you'll see it. When you click it a red line should appear under the two Cs meaning that closed captioning is on. The video will then create automatic subtitles.

    • @CarlosGarcia-d3e
      @CarlosGarcia-d3e ปีที่แล้ว

      @yanfishtwig2356: I assume the channel name is a compound word:
      a) tol = past tense of the verb to tell without the letter "d" at the end
      b) tec = abbreviation for technical
      c) merc = the French word thank you without the letter "y" at the end
      That is to say: technician who said thank you.
      In my native language (Spanish) it makes all the sense in the world although I could be wrong. All the best.
