I really appreciate that you test base models, especially in the case of the Camry, where the base model has a substantially better ride quality and EPA rating compared to the upper trims. Nearly every other reviewer received an AWD XSE model, so the sportier handling version with significantly lower MPG is the only new Camry we hear about. Meanwhile, the LE goes unnoticed and unmentioned, despite having the quietest interior, the plushest ride, the best MPG by far, the lowest running costs, and an msrp that's about $12,000 lower than that of a fully loaded XSE. We're talking a full one-third less expensive, and the LE is the functionally superior model.
Those wheels are perfectly fine. I am old and retired, but if I was still doing my 70 mile daily round trip work commute, this car would be on my list. Kirk...extra credit for getting up so early for the review of the lights. Not sure why they bother with anything other than LED's but the incandescent lights work. No biggie.
I love my Camry LE I have had for a month now and I am averaging 55 MPG and that is not going by what the car says it is getting. I have the convenience package and the winter package. Great car.
I got my 2025 Camry LE with convenience package about 1 month ago. It has been a fantastic car, best I've ever owned. And for 29k OTD, I'm super happy with it!
I test drove a 2025 Camry LE today. It was front wheel drive, but I LOVED it. This is the car I am going to buy, but I won't be able to write a check for it until a few months into 2026. Since I live in Maryland I want the Cold Weather package, power moonroof, convenience package and a power driverside seat with lumbar. I want Ice Cap and a black interior. Thanks Kirk for doing this night review so I can continue to learn about my new car!!
I've got my Ritz and my Coke Zero and I'm buckled in !!! Let's go !!! Kirk, I love your night videos. I've never seen such empty city roads before. They are eerily beautiful, both alien and inviting. You stop in the middle of the street before you launch your 0 - 60 time. Showing the lights, especially in the interior, is an important consideration when deciding which car to buy. I hope you continue these night driving reviews. Also, I think your Lexus LC 500 review was the best review you've ever done! You love cars so much and the Lexus moved you to tears. You never see this in car reviews. It's the job of automotive designers to create emotions, to evoke certain feelings and thoughts, like experiencing a work of art.
Yes you are correct, Toyota may change how they do things in the future but up until recently the Toyota base model has always been the fastest because it weighs the least and has the same powertrain as a higher trims. For example, in the 1997-2001 generation Camry the base model (CE V6) was the only trim of that generation that was available with both a V6 and manual transmission.
I think the larger/heavier wheels have more of a negative effect on performance than the increased total weight of the cars. Most people don’t know that larger wheels have a significant negative effect on mileage and acceleration; I’m glad Kirk points this out and I wish more reviewers emphasized this fact, especially in vehicles that are meant to be efficient.
Thanks for the light comparison. You are one of only few car reviewers whose word i can trust. I wanted to buy the base model for the many reasons you mentioned. Faster, better on gas, more comfortable ride, etc. However, I was concerned about the base headlights performing poorly. Thankyou again for the review.
I wish Toyota would build station wagon versions of Corolla and Camry . If you want a wagon you have to go to much larger and gas guzzling SUV or Minivan .
Interesting review. I bought a lower trim end Camry in 2020 and eventually gave it to my son. It was solid, reliable, looked fine. But just felt like a rental car or Uber. If you just want utility out of a daily driver, it's hard to go wrong with though.
Like the review of the base model(s). keep that going. Also, showing driving the car at night is refreshing, since many of us, dare I say older folks, like to have that familiarity with how the car night drives. Thanks for the review.
I heard the XLE provides better ride comfort than XSE. XSE is tuned for a sporty driving with its stiff suspension while XLE is tuned for comfort with its soft suspension. The seats however are similar, not much different.
Thankyou for the extensive review Kirk! I didn’t know the LE had LED interior map and dome lights? I think those are a nice touch and adds an upscale appearance to any interior.
I made a comment comparing this to Lexus and y'all did not disappoint, Lexus fanboism is off the charts. PS: I have an IS350 in transit, I like Lexus too, but I am not fixed on brand names, I like value for my dollar.
I’m actually a fan of incandescent bulbs in vehicles, a LOT cheaper to replace than the LEDs. Sure LEDs might last longer but I’d rather just swap a bulb
The issue sometimes is getting access to those bulbs. And even toyota is guilty of this crime of making access to smthing as simple as a lightbulb difficult. I from southeast asia and our asia pacific estima minivan… oh boy. U need to remove the plastic clading of the front wheel well, and then feel ur way to the back of the headlamp to get access. A simple 5 min job u can do on ur own with basically no tools suddenly becomes 30min of crouching over n lots of swearing😅. I mean, its not as insane as some Audis n porsches, where - if im not mistaken - u literally have to remove the front bumper, n then remove the headlamp to access the lightbulb assembly.
You're making me want to swap out the 18 inch wheels on my SE for the 16 inch wheels. I don't care about wheel looks, I want that mileage, cheaper replacement, and softer ride, and now I get to add on "acceleration".
I got my Camry 2025 yesterday. It liked It very much. Accelerates very well, performance Very close to my old passat 2.0TSI. I'm impressed by that new Camry. There is no better car by that price.
NEW CAMRY remains the king and class leader of mid size sedans without a challenge 👑🤴👑. Only serious competition is the new sonata and K5. While accord and Altima dying a slow painful death ☠️
With the Mazda 6 gone now.. You're not wrong. I can't believe the Camry is the most exciting out of the Accord, Altima, Camry, and non existent Mazda. I don't consider Kia/Hyundai myself at all so I don't include.
Honda could easily change some soft areas of the Accord to quickly improve its looks and compete better with the Camry. The Accord front is the same design direction as the Rest-of-World HR-V - which is different from the US HR-V. The HR-V RS in Japan has a better lower bumper/grill treatment and fog lights that could be ammended onto the Accord. Also, I prefer the rear light design of the HR-V RS better than the US Accord, and I would substitute a version of that to make the Accord less generic. Otherwise, Accord needs better light color interior w/ exterior color combinations and a few more features across all trims so it doesn't appear too basic. All of these are do-able without great cost at a refresh point, which should be sooner rather than later, Honda.
Thank you, thank you thank you!!!! Your opinion and reviews put me at ease! The two things I worried about with the LE was acceleration and lighting! Can’t wait to see MPG review!
I've been a subscriber for 5 months. Everyday I wait to see your new videos. I would like to see the 2025 Honda Civic Sport Hybrid (cheapest) 0-60 & MPG review. I am trying to narrow down to Civic hybrid and the Camry LE or SE.
I traded a Cadillac to a 25 XLE Crown speedometer says 43.5 mpg my daily trips are in the 60’s. I have sat in the car for hours trying to the speedometers set up. After 2 months I’m still working on learning. Accidentally hit reset more than one time and I had to go and try to set up everything again so I had all the choices.
You can always upgrade the bulbs themselves to a higher quality light. It wont be like the higher trims but you can get a cleaner brighter light, you can upgrade the rears to LED's for that "pop" light.
I believe LED bulbs are designed for older vehicles. Modern headlights have LEDs soldered in case of cheaper reflector headlights or use LED lens modules like in this Camry. It’s possible to replace the lens module, but it’s not as easy as popping in a regular bulb
Toyota made it compelling to get the base model that's already well equipped with the best fuel economy compared to the other trims. For once, I'd rather get the LE than the other models just for the fuel economy and ride comfort of the smaller rim size.
I had a Ford Fusion hybrid once and I love to coast to a red light . For best mpg . I wonder how this Camry would feel trying to get best mpg . ❤ Sedans are much more fun and cheap compared to suvs. Thanks Kirk for the Review. I love it
Hi Kirk, I am debating whether to get the Prius Prime to get that extra economy with the plug-in over the new Camry Hybrid. What are your thoughts? Will I benefit from the plug-in over the new Camry?
I think that the Kia Forte GT was the best value car for 2023 and 2024, but now this is the best value for the money car. This is a lot of car for the money and I’m glad Toyota is the one to make it. I would take the LE over all of the other trims without hesitation, just not in rental car white.
LE will accelerate faster than all other trims with the I4 engine except the L (lower curb weight). LE has the best ride due to the 17 inch wheels & tires (taller tire sidewalls). LE can give better mpg (lower weight & smaller/lighter wheels and tires). LE does not have the pano (less high weight-->less body roll-->better handling & less chance of water leaks/intrusion). LE has a manual parking brake (works with good battery, dead battery, or no battery in the vehicle). Our JVIN LE came with hood gas struts instead of a hood rod. We really like our 2018 LE.
That's correct. It's just the blinkers that are incandescent, front and back. And that makes them easy and cheap to replace, which a person interested in low maintenance costs appreciates.
Some people reported something in the 7s range for base corolla LE. I have one myself and it feels like it for sure. Passing power is nice and has no issue merging.
@@lupe2947 I remember the Hatchback is 8.0 second, but it probably had large wheels as the car magazine companies only test upper trims, so maybe the base Corrola LE can beat that.
I am definitely considering the LE in ocean gem with the convenience package I was thinking about an XLE but nah the LE has me sold. As the owner of a 2020 LE gasoline I’m sold my 20 LE has been and will continue to be a great car so much more you can do with an LE cosmetically to make it much more like its upper trim siblings.
Kirk, what sub $30k vehicle (used is fine 2017+) right now do you think has the best balance of performance to gas mileage? A lot of these hybrids are super slow, like 0-60 in 7.5s, but the turbo and 3.5 v6's get horrible mileage, like 20-22mpg blended. Accord hybrid maybe at 6.5s 0-60, but so ugly. I wish there were more reliable B58 engine like options from toyota/lexus/honda/acura. 400hp and 30mpg. Also might be worth considering rolling start or 30-70mph instead for highway starts.
The 16-in rims are not dorky at all. It will ride better than any other model. When the tires need replacing they will be the most economical to replace. What does rims and the base model actually say is; " I have money and I know where to put my money, and going for extra Flash for others makes no sense." This is the best value, it's solid good looking and not too overly gingerbread like, I would 100% go with this model over any other.
What do you think that the new generation is still using the original TNGA chassis, while the new generation prius is using the 2nd generation TNGA chassis? Economically it makes sense since prius is lower volume, but it sucks that there were no chassis changes in the camry, despite outselling the prius 4 to 1
can you compare Sienna 2024 LE AWD to Sienna 2024 LE FWD - i need a work van but i think AWD will last longer and take off faster from the red light THANKS🚐
WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT PREMIUM LIGHTS. I HAVE a Mitsubishi Mirage and the standard headlights are awesome and bright. I mean who cares about blinkers and brake lights. Standard bulbs are much cheaper. I do like the brightness of LED'S and how they light on an interior.
It is a fine car but they need to stop forcing the moonroof upgrade on anyone wanting ventilated seats, sports tuning or upgraded audio. The moonroof doesn't open for cooling, lowers your headroom, increases your chance of skin cancer, creates additional shards of glass in a serious crash, increases your chance of a water leak, and makes you give up the sunglass holder. If it weren't for that I'd definitely get it - no why would I pay more for something that is a complete dunsel.
The reason why it's faster has to do with the wheels than anything else, lower rolling resistance.. And also helps it get better gas mileage. So if you have an XSE you want the same results, just put on more efficient wheels. And not only would you get the same results, but you also have all around a lot better handling. Over the LE .
I bought a 2018 Corolla brand new and it has 300k miles right now. I’m SHOCKED at the fact that it still drives like new. Honda and Toyota are no jokes or at least (used to not be)
I have to say i picked up a 2010 Acura MDX for 4950 for a friend, and its in damn good condition. Makes me think paying 50k for a new car is a stupid proposition unless you have excess coin lying around. Im seriously shocked, and everything works interior is in great shape. Im only commenting on it here cause I'm so shocked. LOL
@@KirkKreifels Interestingly, Edmunds stated that the AWD model felt faster, compared to the FWD model, although they didn't time 0-60. Motor Trend also mentioned 2025 Camry has a 184-hp four-cylinder engine and a 134-hp electric motor in FWD, with an added 40-hp motor in AWD. Kirk, you compared this to a Lexus ES. I have owned an 2025 Camry LE for less than a week and I don't see the comparison. It doesn't even come close to the refinement and smoothness of a Lexus ES. I used to have a 1999 Camry LE V-6 that I bought brand new and that was extremely refined and came razor thin close to an ES at the time. My Camry feels like a big disappointment.

can you compare Sienna 2024 LE AWD to Sienna 2024 LE FWD - i need a work van but i think AWD will last longer and take off faster from the red light THANKS🚐
That car mirage has to be the worst I have ever owned in the day. 😢
The only model sold without low profile tires!
The reason why it's faster has to do with the wheels than anything else, lower rolling resistance.. And also helps it get better gas mileage. So if you have an XSE you want the same results, just put on more efficient wheels. And not only would you get the same results, but you also have all around a lot better handling. Over the LE .
16" wheels ftw
Do all the camry models come with dualpain windows?
No
Sad Toyota doesn't build a 2 door Camry. My 08 Solara is 17 years old.
Do interior lights “fade” to off or do they turn off abruptly?
I bought a 2018 Corolla brand new and it has 300k miles right now. I’m SHOCKED at the fact that it still drives like new. Honda and Toyota are no jokes or at least (used to not be)
It’s a hybrid?
Can I ask? How can you get that many miles in such a short time?
I have to say i picked up a 2010 Acura MDX for 4950 for a friend, and its in damn good condition. Makes me think paying 50k for a new car is a stupid proposition unless you have excess coin lying around. Im seriously shocked, and everything works interior is in great shape. Im only commenting on it here cause I'm so shocked. LOL
Ill say shocked ONE more time for anyone taking shots! ;)
clean title no accidents (reported)
Gas mileage is terrible but with the 45k savings you’re probably coming out ahead.
Just bought a naturally aspirated Civic Hatchback- shoulda bought a Camry
3:39 the taillights and brake lights *ARE* LED lights, not incandescent
Thanks a mil.
Honestly could get some cheap led replacement bulbs from Amazon.
LE is way to go!!!
Surprised the headlights at night throw a decent pattern. Pretty OK!
It’s great to know that if you spend less your not punished with the slowest model
Toyota please sell LE in Canada. I don't want to buy xle with 7% interest.
Isn't the 2025 Toyota Camry LE AWD even faster than the FWD model with an extra rear 40hp motor?
I would need to test but I highly doubt it. It's only 7 more HP total output weighing 200lb more
@@KirkKreifels I just saw that Motor Trend found the AWD model to be a hair quicker, SE FWD 7.0 sec, SE AWD 6.9 sec.
Probably at lower speeds the AWD has more torque overall, making it feel faster.
Do you think Toyota would’ve put the 2.4T in the top trims of Camry had Honda kept the 2.0T in the new Accord and not “start a new trend”?
Kirk, I Would LOVE ❤️ to watch more LE - Base Trim Reviews ❤😊😎AWESOME VIDEO, Keep Up The Amazing Work!!🇺🇲🇨🇦
ya smaller wheels are easier to rotate so it would accelerate faster than turning a larger wheel
does the LE have rear view mirror defrost, and remote start and rear vents ?
Rear vents yes, defrost on the back window yes (I assume that is what you’re asking), and NO REMOTE START unless you have the Toyota subscription.
@@jasonkernjr5343 Every model has remote start without subscription, even without convenience package. Press lock twice and hold for a few seconds on the third press.
So would the AWD LE be faster than the FWD LE?
No. Only 7 more HP and 200 lbs heavier.
yes
Can brightness be adjusted for the dual overhead map & floor foot lights?
Kirk, you compared this to a Lexus ES. I have owned an 2025 Camry LE for less than a week and I don't see the comparison. It doesn't even come close to the refinement and smoothness of a Lexus ES. I used to have a 1999 Camry LE V-6 that I bought brand new and that was extremely refined and came razor thin close to an ES at the time. My Camry feels like a big disappointment.
Curious speed on se?
How does that compare to the outgoing V6?
My brother just bought the SE 2025 looks nice but no leds small screen for 40k
how about le vs le awd? would the le awd be faster since it have 232 horsepower?
My 2018 LE lights give you more lighting. But it still looks pretty decent
The review are very good for this car, wish i could drive it
I'd like to see an LE all-wheel drive 0 to 60 comparison
Yes I do
What’s your deal with the Camry when they ruined it with cvt only option?
you obviously don't know what an eCVT is.
