I didn’t see it either but I then just went to the engine DJ website and then downloaded the update to my laptop and then connected my laptop via the usb to the prime go and then went into update firmware mode on the go and then hit start on my laptop, worked seamlessly
When i plug my parleds (dmx) to the engine lights they start to do a really nice light show they react to music good but after about 3-4 minutes they stop reacting, why is that?
I just got a prime 2, I was going to return it because of the bad software and lack of serato support. Let's see if this helps with cancelling my decision
streaming services only offer a list of tracks - in pages of 100 - and all players, be that DJ stuff or your phone go and ask for page 1 of the list to display , then page 2 two, then page 3 etc when you scroll down... the way it would have to work would be ask the streaming provider for the list of tracks but order them in this order.... so the streaming provider probably dont offer that now, the just have the list called 90s hip hop in the order they put them in... Other way would be download the entire list (which could be thousands of tracks in a search request for example) and then sort on the players, but this may be a really hard task for the internal computer and affect performance... So at the moment it would be making all the streaming providers offer that on their end first
Exciting stuff, Phil, thank you. But what does it mean “re-write the database” compared with “rewrite the software?” I am really confused by this. Where will this rewriting show up? Also ….Shift-Cue to take you back to beginning. Did they fix it yet? Thanks.
I want to see Denon dj play video mixes directly from the engine software (direct VIDEO output) without using third party resolume software and why is it difficult if other dj software like virtual dj, serato and rekordbox have direct video outputs. I also have a question on the denon dj go which I have purchased and the question is why don't denon dj update it's software for serato and other dj softwares like in 4 so that I can play my video mixes because resolume sims to be a complicated software to use for video mixing. Is it possible for denon dj to integrate serato or virtual dj software directly into engine dj without the need to connect a laptop and with video out puts included. I hope my points is clear and I believe they can come up with a solution if they can work together with serato or virtual dj.
Sorry Phil. Didn’t mean to be facetious but the only thing holding me back from making the jump back to the Denon DJ hardware vs Pioneer is that most of my gigs now involve video elements whether that’s as simple as a DJ Text Request number for guests to give me feedback or visuals that relate to the music or event. I do a lot of pre-concert parties in Vegas and it’s nice to get the fans pumped with interviews, live videos, or even public video chats or karaoke. It’s a godsend that DJ software like Rekordbox, Serano DJ, and Djay Pro AI incorporate video, texts, logos, photo montages, graphics, etc into their workflow so I don’t have to have another laptop or software run those elements separate from the music. If Denon DJ can add these elements like the software has then Im ready to jump. In the meantime it’s nice they made the Prime 4 able to act as a controller for the software. Just wish they would have made it possible to use the nice little portable Go as a controller as well. Maybe there’s a way to add that to the Go in the future but appears not?
@@jacecorbin first of all, there's a lot of processing power utilized to render video. The reason serato and virtual can do this is BECAUSE they have gpu processors in your laptop. This is mostly cpu oriented because its only doing music. Also how many people are actually doing video to justify the need for this? i bet not many. Also, the price tag would go up. Me personally, i would buy it because using Resolume with Engine is not very intuitive. I Also did a video about this on my Simple Dj Life Channel.
I tried out the sync manager feature in desktop software, and as I understood (maybe wrongly so), when I hit the "sync to engine dj" on the right column I expected that it would sync everything from my usb to update the library I have in the desktop software (since I obviously prepare my music on my Prime 4 and would like that my grid edits, cues and loops would get transfered to the desktop software library). But instead it just created duplicates of each file. Didn't find a way to undo (the sync process was basically instant so I doubt any files were transfered) and I dunno which one of the duplicate I should delete. Bit of a messy situation. Perhaps you could explain the sync manager feature in a little more detail in one of your future videos. Great content as always. Rest of the new update is FIRE!!!
Sync Manager is primarily designed to get your music FROM the desktop TO the USB, and then if you change anything on the Prime 4 for instance, when you plug the USB back in, it will sync those changes back to the desktop, but it shouldn't duplicate the file. Not sure what's going on there but somehow, it is not matching up the files on your desktop computer with those in the USB.,
This is a very impressive update! I've been looking into understanding how lighting control works when DJing and which lights to get to start off with. Are there any budget ones you suggest that I can start of with or any ones you recommend? Also if you are using the Prime on computer mode and mixing with virtual for integration how can I then control lighting at the same time??? Thank you for your help :)
After the update I found that my collection is duplicate.. I usually have my music on a secondary drive on pc.”, now I have it both on the secondary and in c: so I see duplicates of every song… what I have done wrong ???
If you have your music on a secondary drive and in c:, you have copied it to your c: drive, so you have two copies of your music and Engine is indexing both of them.
Has the issues of the databases corrupting fairly regularly been fixed? I've had to rebuild my play lists several times, whereas I've never had that with serato. Also, can you monitor the monitor on your headphones yet?
@@digitaldjtips I briefly saw a setting in the menu that said "send to headphones" so hoping that means I can monitor the headphones whilst also sending it out the master? I dj a radio show from a bar in Auckland, but we are in lockdown so haven't been able to get in to test. Hoping this means we don't need a separate mic channel any more.
Great video and camera changes on the fly u multitasking legend. I have the pleasure of owning the 6000m but misfortune of needing to export from Rekordbox to use out djing. Please hint that these exciting updates down the line will be export to Usb stick to use on Rekordbox/ Pioneer equipment.
Phil on engine 1.6 it has a mcx8000 compatibility mode on the 2.0 i am not seeing that. Even with restarting and plugging in i can't access the hardware any tips?
The MCX8000 hardware does not support the new Engine DJ v2.0 database. MCX8000 users should continue using the final build of Engine PRIME (1.6.1) to prepare their drives.
I love it but was feeling a little underwhelmed by the OS on my Prime 4, I'm really looking forward to playing with this update. Can I ask Phil- are you planning on releasing a course specifically for DJs wanting to master this thing soon? Or will you wait for all the new updates to be dropped? Cheers for your great work mate
Hello. I bought the Prime 2 yesterday 11/06/21 and updated the firmware to the latest version 2.0.1 and I can't use my Macbook 10.13.6 (High Sierra). By noticing that this update is only compatible with versions above 10.14, I installed software version 1.6.1 and as it is only available on your page, I installed firmware 1.6.2 however, I still can't use the computer together with the prime two. A process that should be as simple as: Turn on the equipment, update the firmware, install the software and play. As the offered cable didn't work, I tried with another one and it doesn't work either. What should I do to be able to use prime 2 with my computer without having to insert other drives all the time?
Love the updates but still waiting for one of the simplest things that can be done I would imagine. The artist next to or underneath song title when you have a Tidal song loaded. The other simple thing that was done which I appreciate is the clock.
I was wanting to get the Prime 4 but people keep telling me that hard drives in NTFS have to be converted to FAT32. I use to use traktor. Some how I could play any song I wanted off of an 8 Terabyte external drive. I could play it on the laptop or I can play it on the controller with traktor ?
Engine 2.0 kind of broke my beat counter dots in horizontal mode on my Prime Go. I can't align the dots of both tracks anymore even though the tempo is the same. When I try to align them, the dots always move away again, as it would be when they are not aligned in tempo. Does anybody know how to fix this? With 1.6.2 this issue was not present.
#ASK Thanks Phil! One question: is it possible now to have a "full integration" between Denon Prime4 with SC6000(M)? In other words can you have the same functionality when connecting the SC6000(M) to the Prime 4 as you would have by connecting the SC6000(M) to X1850 mixer? Is it possible to have all 4 wave-forms displayed on the Prime 4 display (2 decks from Prime 4 and two wave-forms from SC6000(M) deck(s)?) If not, what the differences would be? Would it be possible to post a video showing the full functionality of Prime 4 connected to (two) SC6000(M)? Thank you in advance!
The old prime software has duplicate file issue that throws me off so bad, I ended up going all in on Soundcloud GO and Beatport LINK. Not with Ableton Link it’s even nicer:)
I can see Engine DJ growing a lot in the future, evolving into a fully fledged software with stem isolation features and everything. Who else thinks that?
I personally am a bit dissapointed for this update even there are many new and nice features, none of them won’t give me any real value but I’m sure many will appreciate these. I was hoping to see something like auto-gain and visual bar cues (like those smaller colour bars under a waveform in Rekordbox ecosystem). Haven’t yet installed the updates, excited to see all the under the hood improvements for stability, smoothness etc. Perhaps in the future I will be seeing more valuable updates to me personally. Anyway great new stuff from Denon no doubt! :)
Auto-gain function has been requested by the users for several years now, from at least since the release of the Prime series but for some reason Denon have decided to ingore this request. Maybe in the future updates, fingers crossed.
@@matribadeneira9766 Yeah true that, with Denons they aren't completely missing, every 32 bar is marked with a small thin vertical line. :-) I know some Pioneer standalones have it in similar way. In Rekorbox ecosystem bar cues are much more sophisticated with more precision and visually much detailed marking smaller segments as well. I'd love to see something like this in Denons in the future.
Looks great. It's just a pity they haven't yet made the software compatible with none FAT formatted HDDs as this means I have to have both FAT and MacOS formatted drives connected. My library has been larger than most SSDs for some time. Although the SSDs are now getting larger at a reasonable cost. It would just make things a little bit easier. Otherwise looks great. Maybe it's time for a new MacBook!
Just sold my Prime GO so won't be enjoying these updates, but honestly... I didn't mind. Apart from the fancy features I didn't really enjoy djing on a Denon gear anyways. :( (I am not sure if they fixed/added the cue level indicator and improved sound quality. The GO had a quite mehhh effect and overall sound IMO.)

Hi Hans - The OTA updater is now working and you shouldn't experience any issues upgrading. Apologies for the inconvenience. It was published this morning.
Really sorry Phil, but the Soundswitch integration is completely not what is needed to improve the Prime software. I purchased the P4 only to realise, I simply could not make the transition from Serato without a significant amount of work to figure out how to work it. Engin Prime was awful. It still has a long way to go. Sorry to appear negative, but I spent so much money on the switch I feel entitled to complain. It left me feeling really frustrated. I'm back to Serato now.

I actually miss having seperate crates and playlists. Crates would be different genres with 150+ tunes for free mixing and jamming, playlists would be 15ish tracks organised and cued in a specific order crafted for a set. I had no issue with that.
Guess there are always going to be winners and losers with any changes. Although you're the first person I've heard say they miss that distinction Alex.
On Tidal it seems that i don't have the Bpm listed on the Playlists , on the side of the Songs , it just shows you the Bpm if the Song is playing. Disappointed.

When i plug my parleds (dmx) to the engine lights they start to do a really nice light show they react to music good but after about 3-4 minutes they stop reacting, why is that?
No idea, sorry.
Nice! I still think Engine DJ need performance mode like Rekordbox
Sounds good to us
Was about to ask Phil this very thing, having a dvs output with vl12 would be awesome, I think Phil knows more than he's letting on here😉🤣
I can’t seem to load songs from my usb stick to playlist to play on my decks
Have you analysed them in Engine first?
Does the lighting engine work with any DMX kit? Or just SoundSwitch? Thanks in advance for your response.
SoundSwitch integrates the lighting feature with all DMX lights. That's what is is - a USB-to-DMX interface with accompanying software.
I just got a prime 2, I was going to return it because of the bad software and lack of serato support. Let's see if this helps with cancelling my decision
Let us know!
The only thing I wanted was to be able to sort tracks from the premium services. Why the hell you still can’t do this is unbelievable
streaming services only offer a list of tracks - in pages of 100 - and all players, be that DJ stuff or your phone go and ask for page 1 of the list to display , then page 2 two, then page 3 etc when you scroll down...
the way it would have to work would be ask the streaming provider for the list of tracks but order them in this order.... so the streaming provider probably dont offer that now, the just have the list called 90s hip hop in the order they put them in...
Other way would be download the entire list (which could be thousands of tracks in a search request for example) and then sort on the players, but this may be a really hard task for the internal computer and affect performance...
So at the moment it would be making all the streaming providers offer that on their end first
Thank you for the update Phil.
Since this version will update the old database does that mean that I will lose my current playlists
Exciting stuff, Phil, thank you. But what does it mean “re-write the database” compared with “rewrite the software?” I am really confused by this. Where will this rewriting show up?
Also ….Shift-Cue to take you back to beginning. Did they fix it yet? Thanks.
You cant access the SSD or SD card till it upgrades the database, took a minute and didnt lose any hot cues or playlists.
Denon DJ is a hardware platform designed for music, I do not think they will allow the playing of video any time soon, if ever.
Denon DJ is a hardware platform designed for music only. I do not think they will allow the controlling of light fixtures anytime soon, if ever. Lol
If I up grade, will I keep my que and loop setting ?
Yes
Good info!
Glad it was helpful!
Not sure what's going on there but somehow, it is not matching up the files on your desktop computer with those in the USB.,
@@digitaldjtips ended up manually deleting the duplicates since I figured that it’s just a double entry for the same directory - and it was.
Chauvet GigBar is a good starting place.
It has a brand-new database.
@@digitaldjtips here's hoping it's as stable as the competition then
@@digitaldjtips I briefly saw a setting in the menu that said "send to headphones" so hoping that means I can monitor the headphones whilst also sending it out the master? I dj a radio show from a bar in Auckland, but we are in lockdown so haven't been able to get in to test. Hoping this means we don't need a separate mic channel any more.
Great video and camera changes on the fly u multitasking legend. I have the pleasure of owning the 6000m but misfortune of needing to export from Rekordbox to use out djing. Please hint that these exciting updates down the line will be export to Usb stick to use on Rekordbox/ Pioneer equipment.

The hardware isn't modern enough 1.6 update was as far as they could go, was on the q and A with the rep from engine dj

A process that should be as simple as:
Turn on the equipment, update the firmware, install the software and play.
As the offered cable didn't work, I tried with another one and it doesn't work either.
What should I do to be able to use prime 2 with my computer without having to insert other drives all the time?
Hey Rick, you'll want to ask this on the Denon forum or by emailing them, they're unlikely to see this question here
Love the updates but still waiting for one of the simplest things that can be done I would imagine. The artist next to or underneath song title when you have a Tidal song loaded. The other simple thing that was done which I appreciate is the clock.
Nice one
File corruption has been my biggest issue… is there a resolution for this or has there been one?
I was wanting to get the Prime 4 but people keep telling me that hard drives in NTFS have to be converted to FAT32. I use to use traktor. Some how I could play any song I wanted off of an 8 Terabyte external drive. I could play it on the laptop or I can play it on the controller with traktor ?
Hey Noji - to avoid a file corruption error, you'll want to format your drives to EXFAT or FAT32. This format is required for Denon DJ hardware.
An internal HD? I’ll have to check on that! Thanks for the heads up!
@@EngineDJOfficial can you use M3U files yet?
Engine 2.0 kind of broke my beat counter dots in horizontal mode on my Prime Go. I can't align the dots of both tracks anymore even though the tempo is the same. When I try to align them, the dots always move away again, as it would be when they are not aligned in tempo.
Does anybody know how to fix this? With 1.6.2 this issue was not present.
I'd reach out on the Engine forum for this kind of stuff
It's a reported bug in 2.0 and apparently a fix is coming.
No, this isn't possible yet.
I'm hoping the prime 2 eventually lets us have the ability to have sound effects
Not sure what you mean? It has effects...
Is Engine DJ 2.0 work with Denon MCX 8000?
No
The old prime software has duplicate file issue that throws me off so bad, I ended up going all in on Soundcloud GO and Beatport LINK. Not with Ableton Link it’s even nicer:)
That's fixed now
Does it work with the mcx8000?
No, you'll need to stick with the previous version.
@@digitaldjtips I just got a new MacBook Pro and am having a hard time getting engine to work right.

No problem!
I can see Engine DJ growing a lot in the future, evolving into a fully fledged software with stem isolation features and everything. Who else thinks that?
We hope they continue to develop it at a pace!
@@digitaldjtips Absolutely! Really loving it on the Mixstream!
Some good ideas there!
Auto gain or normalization would be much appreciated!
Auto-gain function has been requested by the users for several years now, from at least since the release of the Prime series but for some reason Denon have decided to ingore this request. Maybe in the future updates, fingers crossed.
They do have visual bar cues
To be fair to them they are not alone in this. Pioneer DJ is the same.
@@digitaldjtips I did not know that! Good to know. Which suggests it a great opportunity for them to fix that little issue.
Just sold my Prime GO so won't be enjoying these updates, but honestly... I didn't mind. Apart from the fancy features I didn't really enjoy djing on a Denon gear anyways. :(
(I am not sure if they fixed/added the cue level indicator and improved sound quality. The GO had a quite mehhh effect and overall sound IMO.)

@@mikepenny5727 Yep, USB update worked. But still, what's the point of offering OTA updates, if that's not available from day 1 of a new release? :)
Doesn’t seem to work on any devices
I just downloaded the update to my laptop and then connected via usb to the player and then put it in firmware update mode and then just hit start on my laptop and it worked
Oh well that’s why you have a choice! We don’t mind what brand you go for 👍
Hey Chris - Thank you for the feedback. If you have any specific requests, please feel free to share them via Denon DJ's forum in the Feature Request section. The development team loves to hear from the community. www.denondjforum.com
What are the big differences you find between the two? I have Serato and Engine and maybe I’m not using them properly but don’t really see much 🤔
So I no longer have playlists, but I do have crates…. Hmm….
Other way around, but yes.
Today is 5th a year later
I actually miss having seperate crates and playlists. Crates would be different genres with 150+ tunes for free mixing and jamming, playlists would be 15ish tracks organised and cued in a specific order crafted for a set. I had no issue with that.
Guess there are always going to be winners and losers with any changes. Although you're the first person I've heard say they miss that distinction Alex.
On Tidal it seems that i don't have the Bpm listed on the Playlists , on the side of the Songs , it just shows you the Bpm if the Song is playing. Disappointed.

I just sold my Prime 4 yesterday, I HATED the jog wheels, they suck big time. Got another ddj-1000 which is way better in every aspect

Fair enough

@@audiomonster303 yeah I see what you mean, the issue on the jog wheels is that what I’ve noticed is that they differ from unit to unit. First run had really light fly away jogs and people complained and then they made them tighter in future released units.
