I remember Laidback Luke switching to Denon and saying he couldn’t believe how good the gear was and it had been out for three years. InMusic have to up their game to the the festival dj and that won’t happen unless they can sort out the Engine DJ management software. Engine OS on the players is brilliant.Unfortunately, VDJ is in the same boat until InMusic get more of their hardware into festivals.

Yeah, it's pretty good when you get your head around it - they didn't have a vid so we decided to spend some time working it out and share how it's done, as I know people will be wanting to know.
Anyone on the fence about doing the stems course…..it’s well worth it! I’m currently about halfway through it. It came out before this update so this isn’t in there, but a ton of useful information is.
This update is just another way of controlling the stems but it assumes that you have proper understanding of stems, acappellas, key, timing and so which is what the course is, once you know what’s in the course you can take advantage of this and any other updates to any software 👍 thanks for the kind words

What a great feature. I've never used VDJ, i'm a Serato user but this it clearly is (by the look of it) the best DJ software IMO. Understated and does its job without fanfare.
I've been waiting for this update as well as functionality of The Alpha Theta GRV6. I wanting to buy this NEW Controller, but was waiting for the update to VDJ. Glad to see it's here now! Thanks for the walk through and may take you up on that Stem course once I get the New Controller.
I been using serato for a long time, I also own VDJ but had never thought about using it but this changes everything, for the first time since I bought VDJ(2009) I am installing it on my mac.
3 to 4 years back i wrote VDJ on providing the STEP SEQUENCER on the VDJ FORUM, i guess they came up with something similar. I thing about them they listen and helps you solve problems on the fly but in the evenings depending on your time zone. VDJ forever!
It's a wonderful addition, but today it's very simple to write algorithm for any purpose an idea, sooner or later all the platform will do everything. stand-alone machine will become a strong computer with a lot of buttons that you can map to your mixing style and creativity.❤
4:50 "You would often do this while you're playing" Does the 'Record/Capture' function snap to the nearest beatgrid beat in VDJ StemSwap function to make sure the sample is in sync so to say when performing the swap? Not so noticable on Vocal stem but on Drum stem it would definitely be noticable if the recorded drum sample has a out-of-phase beat compared to the drums it's replacing. When GRV6 was announced and reviewed there was an out-of-phase issue when the Drum Swap function was used and a live captured drum sample was selected (So captured by the DJ, not a drum loop from one of the genre banks) I hope you understand what I mean 😅
Not experimented too deeply, but I’m going to guess it grabs the correct length even if it starts to end slightly out but then again if it’s quantised that shouldn’t happen, however a bit more experimentation probably needed
What time to be alive... I recall virtual dj when it came out end of 2003, everyone was laughing at the free most cracked dj software which had sync. Later all djs jumped on serato and traktor, virtual dj was always seen as the free simple cheap dj software being made fun of... now where are here. They got the best stem separation quality over serato and others... @phil if you are reading this, what is the best controller for control stems in virtual DJ? And how does it compare to Traktor pro 4 and the old but still gold S4 MK3? I wish I could see a new update of the S4 one day... great video, also I keep your course in mind for when I get the tools :)!

ok now my spidey senses are tingling! im on RB6 after ditching RB7... im seeing more and more that VDJ is far superior with stems then RB. Im using a FLX10, so does VDJ seemlessley integrate with the FLX10 and can i copy over my exisiting playlists etc to VDJ? thanks btw i had the DDJT stems course when it first dropped, dont even give it a 2nd thought if youre on the wall, go get it!!! Phil and Steve deliver as per the norm ;)
I have both VDJ and Rekordbox. Because CDJ's are the standard out here in Korea, I still have to use Rekordbox, BUT VDJ takes all your files and cue points and move them over to VDJ. That's if you have the pro version. VDJ also work with damn near all controllers, so that's also a plus. So if you want to keep your Rekordbox files in one program and move them over to VDJ it's automatic.
Been trying this today and it works great. One thing I have noticed, that sometimes the audio level of the sample can be quite low even with the sampler volume on the mixer turned up full. Especially with older tunes. Is there any way to raise the level in VDJ?
Hello everyone, just a query, I put my own horns and lazers into the sampler box, now when i click on it using my keyboard shortcuts, it automatically stems the next deck and put itself into the my bank under the sampler tab, How do I take off this whole thing?
Not too sure what you're saying, but you can decide which bank you're using. So, you could set all this up on a new bank and then just switch back to what you had before.
There's a new "modification" in the color effect's reverb in this update, before the update the reverb was applied normally to the song when you rotated the knob, but know it applies reverb along with the filter and it makes a kind of "vanished" effect on the song..... It's just annoying and I prefer the prior configuration. Somebody knows how to fix it?
Software companies can only introduce these features, it's up to the DJs whether or not they succeed. And often, they succeed in ways the companies didn't envisage. Such is the fun of this culture!

its great.I do not use a sampler much but i do use stems.I mostly use them in a studio situation but i have a new mac so if Serato updates their stems then this would be cool.I do not like vdjs crates though their software has many great features .I have vdj and i first started using stems on their software but like i said i do not like their crates so i will have a play around and then wait for serato to update their stems system.Oh by the way you can put whole songs on their sampler which has many banks.
VirtualDJ's decks will match the key automatically if you have that set. If not, you just need to keep an eye on it yourself as you would with any acapella and instrumental.
Serato is always playing catch up. They roll out with their half assed copycat version features and charge you for their broken features as an "expansion pack". I was hesitant to switch from serato to VDJ and im glad I did....never looed back. As a video DJ nothing pissed me off more than Seratos $150 video expansion....which still uses Quicktime.....a software that was discontinued like 15 years ago. Absolute trash
My only major gripe about VDJ is the waveforms are so plain and not very defined. Very basic and can be a nuisance for scratch DJ’s who want to see the colored waveforms and acapella parts more visual in parts of the waveform. It’s very much the same in Rekordbox therefore i just prefer Serato hearing and seeing the audio in its full fashion is important at least to me 🤷🏻♂️💯
Also, update the skinFPS from 30 to 60 or more. It is more taxing on the machine, but you will notice the difference in terms of clarity/responsiveness
Virtual DJ is such an ugly piece of software. Too bad it has the best functionality of any DJ software out there. Most customizable, most reliable, compatible with every piece of hardware. Incredibly fair pricing. Video mixing. No other DJ software comes close. You can even export music compatible with Pioneer gear. I wish I didn't have to use virtual dj because it's so ugly. But other Dj software is borderline unusable in comparison. Virtual DJ gang!

@@digitaldjtips You need to do a video review about it. It's just a mess. The same button is highlighted differently in different places of the skin - no logic, it confuses everyone. For example - I look at the Hot CUE button (pads), then I look at the hot CUE (custom buttons) - they contradict each other in colors.

To summarize the previous post - VirtualDJ will read your Rekordbox library for playlists, cues, etc, so you should need no other tool to switch over.

Serato got me from Traktor. I'd have have gone with Rekordbox, but the interface and sheer quality of Serato stems has me hooked.

It is definitely something that is a bit basic in the software but probably not something they will prioritise anytime soon.
you can choose the type of wave. Setting "SkinWaveFormType" and "ColoredWaveforms"
