Looking back from 2022, this race was really a historic one, changed many driver's career. Perez to Redbull, Russell to Mercedes. A life-changing moment for the two drivers.
I think it was always likely that Russell was going to make it to Mercedes, this race (and his stand out moments from 2021) probably just meant Mercedes were sure he was the right man for the job. And he really is the right man, he’s done a phenomenal job at keeping up with Hamilton and he’s only a kilo off being a three time winner with a much less competitive Mercedes.

I think Russell completely proved the breed of driver that he is for everyone to see. In light of what he did DESPITE EVERYTHING working against him, from his engine losing power, to the double failed pitstop, to the puncture, he drives with the heart of a true champion and we can all see that.
Mercedes also ruin Bottas race. Because they already used Bottas tyres on Russell's car, Bottas didn't had any new tyres, so they used OLD tyres for Bottas, and ruin his race.

Context: back in Monza it was made official that Racing Point would not renew their contract with Perez, so technically this was Checo's second to last race in his career, so he effectively had nothing to lose

I feel like the only reason races have been exciting this year is because of crashes resulting in a safety car. On terms of actual battles not been that many
Yeah wheel to wheel battles are rare, but chaos is an integral part of sport.
Yeah, the early crash and the late puncture ruined the whole race, nascar is more entertaining.
This time it's the mercedes pit crew who made that race exciting, because without this double stack pit stop they would have cruised home to an easy 1 2
The fact that Perez won from what was essentially the back of the grid and that he *doesn’t* have a seat next year is crazy.
I'd say it's more unfair, rather than crazy that people with too much money (Latifi, Stroll etc.) get in the way of REAL racing drivers, but money talks I suppose?

@@morrisonben Perez is one of those money-backed drivers. .a ''paydriver'' if you will BUT he does have to bring that money with him through sponsorships. Stroll and Latifi are richy rich rich by themselves without having to source sponsordeals.
Hamilton and Verstappen are two example who's skill and talent got them on the grid instead of a big fat wallet.

I think Russell completely proved the breed of driver that he is for everyone to see. In light of what he did DESPITE EVERYTHING working against him, from his engine losing power, to the double failed pitstop, to the puncture, he drives with the heart of a true champion and we can all see that.

Merc should get Russell in for bottas. Although I like bottas he makes too many mistakes under pressure...Russell shows immense signs of someone who can take the mantle of being a race winner...He would be the perfect one to replace Hamilton when he retires.
Well thats the point, I think Mercedes needs someone who makes a few mistakes, just enough to still be second place and keep hamiltons back free. Also Bottas seems to be okay with his team always pushing Hamilton to win without making troubles.
