Mario Joseph, Muslim Imam convert to Christianity
number of times mentioned in Quran: Prop Mohd= 4 places, Jesus = 25 places
No women's name in quran- only Mariam @ mother of Jesus, one whole chapter (Chap 3)
Qur 3:34 onwards - mary was born without original sin, sinless, ever virgin,
Qur 50:23 - she went to heaven with physical body
How did God create the universe? Through the Word of God ( kalimatullah)
Is the Word of God ( kalimatullah) - a Creator or Creation?
Quran says Jesus is the word of God.
Qur 3:45-55 - 10 points quran makes about Jesus
Calls him kalimutullah (word of God), ruhhullah ( spirit of God), Isil Masih ( jesus Christ - The Anointed)
Jesus spoke when 4 years old - breathed life into mud(bird) and created life, cured a blind man, cured man with leprosy, Jesus gave life to dead people. Jesus went to heaven , he is alive and will come again
According to Quran - Prop Mohammad is not the word of God, not the spirit of God, never cured any sick people, never raised any dead people, never made any miracles (breathe life into mud > bird),
he himself died and will not come back. Jesus is a prophet greater than Mohammad.
Qur 10:94 "If you have any doubt in this quran which I give to you, go and read the bible or ask the people who read the bible. The truth is already revealed in that."
The quran itself will make you Christian.

I think you might be surprised how long it takes to have this view undermined in the masses. Muslims are inculcated with a great deference to authority and the authoritative establishment has a track record of covering up problems from the laity. For example in parallel to the preservation "cover up", in hadith "science" scholars close ranks and refuse to expose lay muslims to problems they have known exist in orthodox hadith texts for years. It is part of the faith not to introduce topics which might cause fitnah ( ~disruption by doubt ) , better to have them hold incorrect beliefs than apostate.
I've often thought apologetics are not intended to be bomb proof but instead intended as enough smoke and mirrors to delay a believers change of view long enough such that they indoctrinate another generation

Yeah there is a long story to that , so in too few words...
At the time of the Islamic "golden age" (~10th century )the theology was dominated by a group called the Mu'talazites who thought human reasoning should be used to understand god, his world , and his word. They brought into philosophy and science as methods to do this, borrowing from the Greeks etc.
Another group the Asherites replaced them with a theology that god , his world , and word is not subject to reasoning , and they inculcated Quranic literalism. From this you should just accept what you are given and not question. Science and philosophy were activity discouraged, and any source from outside Islam was to be distrusted.
So the reason behind why they answer questions with Only Allah Know, or trust in Allah is because the Asherite theology actually discourages them from questioning, questions lead to doubt, and apostasy. Who knows the answers, only the scholars and Allah, and you have to take their word. Most of modern sunni orthodoxy (~90% of the worlds Muslims ) have inherited variations on this theme.

I will try to translate some parts of the article that lists the history of the Qur’an printing in Egypt to the year 2021 (The article’s note does not talk about any readings that are allowed to be printed, published and sold in Egypt, through the ages, but we know that the official reading adopted in Egypt is (qera'ah"the Reading" of Hafs, which impose by Otomans in a roud 1830 AD), which was adopted since Beginnings of the last century)
    1) Historically, the beginning of printing the Noble Quran in Egypt wasn't easy. When *Muhammad Ali thought about printing the Quran, he found opposition from Al-Azhar scholars, and the matter remained forbidden according to a fatwa, prohibiting the printing of religious books. Arguments including that (1)the printing materials are contrary to "purity", (2) the inability to press the ayat/verses of Allah with iron machines, (3) also the possibility of a mistake in printing the Quran, that opposition was a natural matter approved by the circumstances of that era, (1) so printing is a new art, (2) scholars did not know what it was exactly, (3) in addition to that they used to gain their livelihood from copying by wrotten of this kind of books, by hands.
    *Muhammad Ali:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Ali_of_Egypt
    2) But in the year 1832 Muhammad Ali ordered that parts of the Quran be printed for school students, then an order was issued to the director of Bulaq Press to print the Quran, and Sheikh al-Tamimi (The Grand Mufti of Egypt) has been ordered: put his seal on the Quran so that its sale and circulation would be legitimate. The printed Quran was distributed to schools and Al-Azhar, ((and this continued until the death of Muhammad Ali.))
    3) But “during the reign of * Abbas Helmy the First (Al-Azhar scholars found mistakes in Muhammad Ali’s Quran), they took advantage of his weakness and his unwillingness to revival and development (they did not care to correct the Quran and were able to persuade him to confiscate those Qurans and prevent their circulation), and when **Saeed wanted to He distributes some Qurans to the students of the Military School (Al-Azhar scholars asked about this and they gave him a fatwa that it is possible to correct errors in the Qurans and then distribute them to students), so the he ordered that they be corrected at the government's expense and distributed to the pure places for recitation there or to schools and offices that need that.

    **Saeed
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sa%27id_of_Egypt
    4) (again) During the reign of *King Fuad, the Quran was printed again in 1918 at the Emiri Press"The Royal printing press", and it was called the Egyptian Royal Quran and contained 826 pages (and it came in the best way), and the number of verses of the Qur’an was determined to be 6,236 verses.
    *King Fuad,
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuad_I_of_Egypt
    5) (again) And it was decided to reprint the Quran during the reign of *King Farouk, after Al-Azhar scholars found errors in the Quran that were printed during the reign of his father (King Fuad)´
    *king Faouk
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farouk_of_Egypt
    6) The Islamic Research Academy had authorized the "Arab Heritage House for Printing and Publishing" in the Husseini scene in Cairo to print the Quran with Resolution 986 in January 1996, after which it issued those editions after it was found that the aforementioned publishing house had made an error while arranging the Quran papers
    7) Likewise, the "Dar al-Tawfiqia" Quran issued in 2003 was confiscated, where errors were found in the arrangement of the fascicles. The Quran “Dar al-Tawfiqia” was issued on August 19, 2003, with permit No. (87).
    8) In 2006 the Islamic Research Academy informed the official authorities of the confiscation of nearly twenty thousand copies of the Quran, full of errors that were in the arrangement of verses, words and page numbers. This copy had been approved by a decision bearing No. 20 in January 2001, and supervised its review and control. Eleven scholars from Al-Azhar scholars.
    9) And in November 2015, the Islamic Research Academy decided to confiscate all copies of the so-called “Lebanese Quran”, which has spread among youth in universities, especially in Cairo.... This Quran was withdrawn from the market, and printers were advised not to print it again, and to abide by the forms established by the Research Council of the Quran.´
    10) Dr. Amal Ramadan Abdel Hamid revealed, in a scientific paper that she prepared entitled "Printing the Quran in Egypt." ... and about the reasons that lead to the occurrence of such errors, she said: The multiplicity of printing agencies, and some printers deal with the printing of the Quran as a commercial business, in addition to smuggling operations. It is carried out by some major publishing houses for very small sizes of Qurans, (*which are not allowed to circulate in Egypt, by hiding them inside the cartons of the major Qurans.)
*not allowed in Egypt, not becaus the size actully but because it has another qera'ah/ reading of qurans ... She indicated that the Qurans coming from outside Egypt are not authorized to enter unless they are reviewed by the Academy, with the exception of the Qurans coming from Saudi Arabia and Syria and bearing the approval of the relevant ministry for approval and issuance of licenses there, explaining that overseeing the markets and inspecting in libraries and on the sidewalks is not them responsibility, but rather the Ministry of Interior.

I wonder here why Muslims do not accept the fact that there are differences in the manuscripts of the Quran that occurred during the past 1400 years. We are not talking only about errors by the manuscript transcribers, but differences in meanings between the different readings in addition to spelling errors and errors in reading after using dots and marks ... etc.

But Brubaker is wrong if he implies anything else than Scribe errors...
Sugesting anything else than scribe error is wrong!
One of the most important research on the Quran done today comes from leading scholar, Dr Marijn Van Putten : He proves that the Othmanic manuscript is a FACT and is preserved:

This paper has shown that idiosyncratic spellings of certain words are not due to the whims of the scribe, but are reproduced with the same spelling in all early Quranic manuscripts. The only way that such a consistent reproduction can be explained is by assuming that all the documents that belong to the Uthmanic text type go back to a single written archetype whose spelling was strictly copied from one copy to the next, showing that these copies were based on a written exemplar. The manuscripts examined in this study are sufficiently early that a codification of the Uthmanic text type is perfectly consistent with an attribution to its traditional source: ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān

    • @joseywales3789

@Logia1978, you've just proven my point precisely! Firstly you've said that Dr Daniel Brubaker is wrong if he implies anything else than scribal errors! But he's presented facts of additions and subtractions, of words changed from one meaning to another meaning. This would make sense if the Quran was learned and recited from one place to another, "Chinese Whispers" would distort the meanings and therefore when the Quran was recited by illiterate people from one area to another area, the meaning would change, hence why the North African Quran is different to the Quran in Jordan or the Quran read by the Uyghurs in China. This is common sense, The Quran has changed because it was not written down and standardised for 1,300 years. Dr Daniel Brubaker is obviously researching the earliest Quranic Manuscripts, looking at the variations and trying to discover the originals and therefore the Quran written before the changes were made, to get as close as it is possible to the very original. This is obviously subjective and requires debate and opinions but they're exactly that, Opinions! Because we're unable to time travel and discover what the very original words of the Quran are, this research is the best way of discovering the truth. The one thing that is certainly not in question is that there's a vast amount of variations in the text of the earliest examples of the Quranic Manuscripts that cannot be put down to scribal errors alone , this is an absurd argument that doesn't hold water. Again, it's only your opinion that Van Putten is a leading scholar, my opinion is that Dr Patricia Crone was vastly superior in her research and depth of knowledge than Van Putten. Dr Patricia Crone was a pioneer in Islamic Studies in the West and questioned with proof and verifiable facts that the Islamic version of certain events and writings were wrong! But again, opinions! Not Facts! I look to scholars such as Dr Daniel Brubaker for facts and he presents those facts without opinions, just facts! You cannot deny the Factual Evidence that there's an incredible amount of variations in the writings of the earliest Quranic Manuscripts and that these variations are the same in some of the manuscripts. What you are therefore arguing is that two separate scribes made the same scribal errors, years apart and a distance between them? This is illogical!

As a person who deals with texts in a number of languages I know this is not true. I am anxious to see this "refutation" of your work. I don't know if your critics are devout Muslims or not but recently I have been interacting with some Muslims academics on Academia over the so-called Code 19 theory and it is evident to me that there is indeed a red line over which they cannot or will not pass. The point is if your research has crossed their red line and challenged their fundamental belief systems you are not going to get a fair assessment. Muslims have three main arguments, all fallacious: ad hominem attack, appeal to authority, and, ultimately, the circular argument back to the Koran. Best wishes.

Thanks for the update. Would be good to read Dr Altikulaç's views of the your brief snippet of your doctoral thesis in the 20 corrections to Quranic manuscripts book. In any case, to attribute these corrections (which they apparently are - corrections) to scribal errors instead of an attempt to modify or to realign deviant texts to a standard text is presumption indeed. I believe that it would be impossible to determine the errors to scribal errors given the sparseness of early Quranic manuscripts and the lack of manuscript history related to the Quran. Islam does not have the >5000 NT Greek manuscripts or the >15,000 translations that came from independent strands of scribal copies, nor the quotations of the scriptures by the early church fathers within 100-200 years from the origins of the NT writings, that would prove to be independent witnesses to the NT writings...

Your belief of "impossible" was therefore premature and speaks of the same bias and prejudice that Dr Brubaker displayed in his book.

Although the book was portrayed as scholarly and from a perfectionist it was in fact riddled with bias and prejudice. The mere word "correction" is laden with bias. Even Dr Brubaker could not hide that so he put it in the small print - in the notes to the Introduction.
Dr Brubaker is not a danger to Islamic scholars but rather he is a blessing. He has exposed the inherent bias and prejudice against people of the Islamic faith from some parts of western scholarship. No amount of calm puppy dog look can cover up his true intent. And to think he received a doctorates degree for this - the university should be taking a good look at it unless he presented something different to them.

Although attributed to the disciple John - no one really knows who wrote these words some 70 years after Jesus. The earliest piece of Bible manuscript we have is some 150 to 200 AD called P52, the size of a credit card. According to Bart Erhman (not Jay Smith) the earliest full or near full Bible manuscript is from 900 to 1000 after Jesus.

It may have been the case that many people memorized the Qurʾan in the 7th Century. I understand that is what many people today believe happened. The question is: What does the evidence indicate about this proposition? The only tangible links that we have back to that time period are the manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, etc. So, we need to take them seriously as evidence, including as evidence to tell us about the state of the orality at various times.
