This C3 mini 2-in-1 adapter features the ability to offer both wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to a CarPlay-enabled factory system, and because it is built on a custom Android 8 closed platform this adapter also allows you to playback TH-cam and Netflix content on your CarPlay display too.
The C3 adapter ticks many boxes in what most people want from a CarPlay wireless adapter. It offers both wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the ability to watch videos from TH-cam, and Netflix or from an SD card.
If this is all the functionality you seek, then the C3 manages this reasonably well, and all at a price that comes in much lower than most AI Boxes that offer more functionality but in a more complex and janky way.
Being built off a closed platform running a version of Android from 2017, I worry about how long these apps will be supported online. Currently, the Netflix app supports devices running from Android 7, so with the C3 built on Android 8, in time, the Netflix Android app may stop getting updates and connecting to their streaming services might end soon after. The TH-cam app still supports Android 4.4, so this app has a longer lifespan on this adapter.
I would say if you want just Android Auto on your CarPlay display, a more basic 2in1 adapter might be all you need, and if you really want to explore and download apps from the Google Play Store and run other alternative video streaming apps on your CarPlay display, then a more costly and open Ai Box much be a better option for you too.
This C3 is trying to position itself in both camps, and I do like this adapter’s simplicity in offering what most people want from a CarPlay adapter and bundling all this into a kind of hybrid 2in1, Ai Box adapter. I am sure we will see more 2in1 hybrids like this release in the future, and if you’re not that tech-savvy, the C3’s closed system keeps you from being overwhelmed with features and opportunities and just gives you all you need on an adapter and does it relatively well.

I have a 2018 Cruze that has CarPlay. I wanted to watch TH-cam vids or Netflix so I bought this. I connected it to the car and went on TH-cam. I can heard the video playing but the screen is blank
I found the Google maps on AA always defaults to the day time background on this device. I always have to manually go to settings to change it to night mode. The auto mode never worked for me either.
You’d think that’s set on the device app and not the dongle side. Maybe try setting it before plugging it in.

I bought the after your review. Have couple of issues
1: keep having to go to setting to jump between interface. When I click hotspot wifi turns off and have to do a few steps to move from TH-cam to car play. Is that normal? Do I have to change settings each time?
2: Netflix said clearly not compatable and didn't run. Car is Merciedes 21
Hi.
1. For this I found when accessing apps when in wireless CP/AA mode it asked to connect to WiFi, so that meant you didn’t have to dive into settings each time.
2. Is this when you run it. I’ve only seen it ask to update but that’s not available. If Netflix is now blocking this version of Netflix you might not be able to sideload an update as it’s a closed Os. It won’t have anything to do with the car it’s plugged in.
I’ll check this myself when I can.
Hey Anthony , is this the best solution you’ve seen for doing wireless CarPlay and media playback (Netflix etc) ?
If that’s the only thing you want from it then this isn’t a bad solution. Startup compatibility can be hit and miss. At least on my pioneer, so maybe buy off Amazon for easy returns and try that a few times make sure it boots in every time. but I like how it is able to swap between WiFi for video apps and WiFi used for CarPlay.

If somehow by chance you’re watching this video because this error is occurring, when you’re trying to use a CarPlay - TH-cam/Netflix adapter in your car… I solved this issue by adding my google account to the device/account, then after playing around with with & force stopping & clearing TH-cam’s data, & trying to start it without/before being connected to hotspot, an update popped up & I updated it! And it works now!!!!!!!! Comment if this helped you!!

Any updates should be from their support team and you should only need to update if there are issues with it.

BMW is a bit tricky in terms of compatibility. Some adapters need to be made bespoke for BMW systems so I can’t say with this one.
Hi, im using this on a 2016 Audi A6 and the screen in not touch screen so how do you connect the device to your phone hotspot? cos i cant get the cursor to move in the password keyboard screen.
That is a common issue with these and touch screens. There are some BT remotes that can connect without doing the pairing procedure but I’m not 100% sure if it works with this particular adapter.
Any idea how to open unlock this a bit? I opened Netflix and it brought me to the play store and I was able to download stuff but it’s so locked down I can’t launch anything else besides what it has on its basic home page
It uses a closed system launcher so it would be difficult to do it without going through the root system. You could try getting into google play and downloading and launching immediately when asked a launcher that replaces it, then in settings set the new one as the default launcher.
Did you find something out about adding other apps?
Is there anyway atal to sideload apps?? I have tried via a sd card but when it installing it says app is not installed. Cheers
This is a closed AI Box. So no way around installing additional apps as the menu will not display them. If you want more functionality you need a normal AI Box with access to the play store and side loading.
Can I use this on my aftermarket Sony CarPlay radio?
It’s possible but I know the Sonys can be picky with adapters like this.

If your system doesn’t have wired CarPlay none of these wireless dongles will work with it. Sorry.

Best ask support about this. If it’s still red then and there is nothing showing on screen when you select CarPlay, it’s not connecting to your CarPlay system and there is a compatibility issue.
If works fine with honda accord 2023 with 12" screen
It’s possible as long as it has wired CarPlay

You don’t have to have a sim in it, but you would otherwise have to hotspot the device in order to stream videos on the installed apps on the adapter

If it’s worked before and you haven’t changed a setting or updated the dongle or your phone in any way then it’s likely a compatibility issue with your system. Best contact support for best advice on how to resolve this issue

It’s an expensive paperweight. Sorry. There’s no workaround if you don’t have CarPlay it just won’t work. It sounds like you might have been misled on its compatibility.

I can see that chrome is installed on the unit but I can't access it. Do you know if its possible?
As in you tap it and it doesn’t launch? Maybe see if there is an update for it somehow. Also check your date and time is correct.
Same with me, in settings I see there are like 20 apps “installed” but I can’t find any more than just Netflix or youtube

Make sure Bluetooth isn’t being used elsewhere. Such as the car stereo. Same with Wi-Fi. Turn Wi-Fi off and hotspot on in adapters settings. Try those.

Sorry to hear that. This could be a number of things. Try reinstalling the app. Make sure audio message playback is supported this way.

You’re better off contact their support team who might give you restore files. Or go into factory settings to reenable the app you removed. I don’t know the code. Again contact support to ask them for the factory code.

It depends what area you’re asking about. It does Wireless CarPlay, casting and Wi-Fi hotspot with iPhone.

Don’t order this, it will not connect to my 2019 Nissan Merano with wired CarPlay. I have looked for solutions but all anyone can suggest is to download the most recent software but you need it to connect to car play to install the software.
Suggesting an update is an easy way to defer support back to you, where an update may not change things at all in certain cases. Some updates can be applied via a USB drive into a usb port of the adapter or SD card in this case and power the adapter from a powered usb wall socket. But some require you to press ‘start’ for the update to be applied

Yes. Just bought mine. TH-cam is saying there’s an error (400) neflix seems to open fine (but havnt signed in yet) seems I’m connected to my hotspot as well.
