I had not appreciated just how steep that line was until now. I feel for the firemen firing steam loco's in times past. What muscles they must have had. Great video, it reveals the line well..

In comparison the Carstairs side of the climb is much less severe (1 in 100 to 1 in 1000) with some downhill sections as well.
