When you talked about nesting seams together, it reminded me of a quilt shop owner years ago who used to say "quilters like tight butts", as in butting (or nesting) seams together.
I love this, I adore this. It's going to be my first quilted project for my best friend who does so much for me, her family and her community. She has made hundreds of facemasks and scrub bags for charity and our NHS Heroes during these pandemics. How wonderful will it be for her to receive a handmade gift from me that she can use too in her sewing room. I am a litle scared about the 'nesting' seams so I think I will have to press mine open being a newbie. Wish me luck in my first quilting adventure......With love and thanks from here in the UK to you, your family and friends xxxx
Hi Erica - Lovely video thank you. I feel my pin cushions with Dry Lavender, your pins take on the smell so you have that beautiful smell of lavender whilst pinning LOL. Stay safe, Linda xx
Really cute pin cushions Erica! Love all your tutorials. I missed seeing Jax today. Thanks for all the fun projects you create and share. Have a great day! Hugs! 💕🤗🧵
Love your hair Erica ! Wow those are adorable pin cushions. Your color choices are so pretty...I've thought about making those recently as I've been getting different fabric squares. Do you have a tutorial on making baby quilts ? I enjoy your videos. 👍
Yes, this is the tutorial for the pin cushions :) If you're referring to the two other pattern options I show, they are included in the PDF pattern. If you're referring to the basket behind them you can find that tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/8H02XaPMLHM/w-d-xo.html
EEKS mine turned out to be 4", It's cute but so many seams and working with small pieces was challenging to say the least. If i were to make again, i may try hand sewing using quilt thread.
Hi Erica! These pin cushions are adorable especially this star one. And I absolutely love this fabric by Poppie Cotton! I see by the comment dates, this video is about a year old. 😏 Would you happen to know where I might find it?
Hi Erica, I was wondering where did you get your hemline measure guide tape for your sewing machine? Thank you xx Great tutorial for beginners like me xxx
I need a bigger pin cushion in my life! But don’t want to purchase one. This gives me an excuse to use my new mini heat press! Are you using regular sewing fabric or are using quilters fabric?
Cute pincushions. I wasn't real impressed with the pressing mat...just TOO small! I just prefer using my regular mat. I can't believe how tiny those squares are...so cute!
I have a question for anyone thats willing to answer. When we sew the half traiangl together why don't you need to back stitch? Then when you sew rows why don't you need to back stitch?
Hi, You don' need to worry about it because when you sew the rows together the stitches will get caught in the seams. But if you like, you can backstitch at the stop/start of each row when assembling
Using crushed walnut shells not only gives your pincushion a little weight but also sharpens your pin/needle each time its inserted. They are also listed as lizard litter from a pet supply store. Its also used for the bottom of bird cages. Hope that helps.
You can also add "kitty litter" to your pin cushion. It’s actually groundalmond shells. Apparently they help sharpen your pins?

Great tip!
I'm wondering about using Rosemary? What do you think?
@@annebyers1608 Rosemary would be as lovely as Lavender, lovely smell when you pull your pins out.
Very cute - would make great gifts for sewing friends - and I always love a good star pattern!

@@karleenpage5979 thank you I didn’t know this about walnuts.
You can also go into a large chain PetStore, and buy a huge bag for cheap! They are generally used for use in ones' Lizard Habitat...!
Yes, I've heard that as well!
so cute! thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial!
I love tiny scrappy projects!

Do you have a tutorial on making baby quilts ?
I enjoy your videos. 👍
Just put your words baby quilts in you tube search bar
I don't have any, but I would look for a small patchwork project online!
Cute pin cushion! 🌸
I love the dark hair Erica. Beautiful!!
Such a fun video. Thank you.
Thanks Erica, cute project!
Very cute thank you for all you do!
Super cute❤!
Very nice collection fabrics 🥰🤗
Sew Easy and So Cute!
Love the big cushions. Are you going to do a tutorial on them? PLEASE
Yes, this is the tutorial for the pin cushions :) If you're referring to the two other pattern options I show, they are included in the PDF pattern. If you're referring to the basket behind them you can find that tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/8H02XaPMLHM/w-d-xo.html
So cute!
Love these!
Thanks so much for such a cute tutorial. I look forward to making these items. It was very detailed.
New Subscriber! Hello from Minnesota 💜
Super cute
EEKS mine turned out to be 4", It's cute but so many seams and working with small pieces was challenging to say the least. If i were to make again, i may try hand sewing using quilt thread.
I find a bamboo chop stick or a toffee apple stick, grab the stuffing better than plastic tools.
Great idea!
Hi Erica! These pin cushions are adorable especially this star one. And I absolutely love this fabric by Poppie Cotton! I see by the comment dates, this video is about a year old. 😏 Would you happen to know where I might find it?
Hi, it is an older line so I don't know if you can get it anymore. I think Etsy would probably be your best bet if anyone still has some left.
Very nice!
Hello. Love these. You state you are trimming to ensure that they are all 1.5 inches, aren't they 1 inch finish?
Yes, each block starts as 1.5" then when you sew them together they become 1" finished.
Love this! Will be making these as little gifts 🤍 thanks for the tutorial !
So cute! Are crushed walnuts better for stuffing? Why?
I like crushed walnuts, I've read that they help keep your needles sharp. But I don't know that they're better or worse than stuffing?
Do you have a pattern for the bag shown as well or a tutorial on how to make it?
Hi Erica, I was wondering where did you get your hemline measure guide tape for your sewing machine? Thank you xx Great tutorial for beginners like me xxx

LOVE THIS PROJECT ! Thank you Erica !!!! :o)
Is there a pattern for tote shown behind the pin cushions?
Your hair looks AMAZING! what do you use? Seriously, I need to know.
Madison Reed Medium Brown! It was a necessity during c$vid :)
I need a bigger pin cushion in my life! But don’t want to purchase one. This gives me an excuse to use my new mini heat press! Are you using regular sewing fabric or are using quilters fabric?
Yes, this is just regular quilting cotton.
Pin cushion hahahahaha the best way
Hi, where do you get the poppy fabric ? Thanks
Check your LQS and also Etsy :)
Cute pincushions. I wasn't real impressed with the pressing mat...just TOO small! I just prefer using my regular mat. I can't believe how tiny those squares are...so cute!
Yes, I think it's better as a little sewing room decor than to actually try to use it LOL! But I tried :)
I made a 9”x9” pressing mat with plywood, batting, and canvas for projects this size and it’s perfect.
Thanks Erica. Concerned - where's our favorite TH-cam cat Jax??
LOL! He hasn't been interested in filming lately :) But he's doing fine!
I have a question for anyone thats willing to answer. When we sew the half traiangl together why don't you need to back stitch? Then when you sew rows why don't you need to back stitch?
Because you sew over the seams when you piece the rows together. The sewing across secures the seam. I hope that makes sense.
Hi, You don' need to worry about it because when you sew the rows together the stitches will get caught in the seams. But if you like, you can backstitch at the stop/start of each row when assembling
Link for the 1/4 inch tape on your machine
Hi, everything is linked in the description below the video :)
I don't see the link for that I see other links but not that.
I don’t see the link for the tape either.
I have looked for the tape link, it is not there? Please advise😊

Can you explain walnut shells? Is it an American thing I’m from uk.
Using crushed walnut shells not only gives your pincushion a little weight but also sharpens your pin/needle each time its inserted. They are also listed as lizard litter from a pet supply store. Its also used for the bottom of bird cages. Hope that helps.
