one thing that has worked for me for years for dripper rigs is to tie my tippet with a blood knot to the leader material then take about 6" of tippet and tie a perfection loop or triple surgeon and then lasso the section around the leader (run the free end through the loop) so then it cinches down around the leader and gets stopped by the knot. Then tie on your dropper fly. This allows two things ... 1. you can have a bunch of these pre tied and ready to use 2. the dropper fly can rotate 360 degrees around the leader and gets tangled much less but when you have a fish on the tippet knot connection acts as a stopper. Another important thing with dropper rigs is the make sure the point fly is heavier than the dropper otherwise if the dropper is heavier it will have a tendency to want to overtake the point fly and cause a tangled mess. I have used this same system for all kinds of fishing including saltwater fish and have hooked large fish without it failing. This same system can also work if you prefer to use a tippet ring... in that case the knot/tippet ring connection would be the stopper for the dropper tippet.

Hi Mark, Sadly no. Most of the rivers are still frozen over and the local spring creek doesn't get fish running up for a few weeks yet. Chasing steelhead next month though, so that's something to look forward to! Hope you're getting some early season trout. Your trout spey looks like a lot of fun.

Question for you? After drifting down the river on your float tube to wherever your location is, how are you getting all your gear and equipment back to your vehicle? Are you hiking it all back to your vehicle? I hope the questions weren’t too dumb.
Not a dumb question (and I thought I replied so sorry for the late reply). On this river the shops provide shuttle services, you give them an extra key and they take your car down to the take out.
