i love how dexter it's a psycho, but he still tries to control himself, taking the role of a exterminator so he can kill animals to preventing himself for killing others.
He then goes full insane after become a doll and tries to kill kids, though I do think Pelo made him as a psycho that has some morals. Afterall he works as an exterminator to legally satisfy his sadism, is against Roy asking Skid and Pump to remove their clothes, in a non-canon sketch he critizes Bob Velseb for killing people and says that animals don't have emotions by his standards and in ARG part of Episode 4 he seems to be resisting the want to kill Skid and Pump. So he has some degree of morality and humanity. Still an animal abuser tho.

This character is interesting to me. We don't see much of his home life but from the little screentime you can tell he's psychopathic in nature. Not necessarily evil as he doesn't see anything wrong in what he's doing to cats, but he just has a basic psychological need to inflict violence on them. It's probably why he decided to get a job as an exterminator The reason he chooses cats specifically is because his mother takes care of them, making them easy targets. Dexter isn't necessarily sadistic as he didn't want to resort to harming Skid at first, but he is a legitimate psychopath
It’s weird how different he is between his death and possession, he has the same fundamental needs, killing cats and other things (fast), but personality wise it makes me wonder what happened in the time between when we saw him, to go from lightly psychopathic to full blown insane and rude, maybe something to do with his needs.
A mix between not satisfying his sadism, being forced to be carried by a dumb child with no autonomy over his life and probably being frustrated by constantly seeing Lila.

Dexter is my favorite character (and boyfriend /silly), he's very complex when it comes to his personality and mindset. He was already insane before going to Lila's house, and even more after all the events on the following episodes. In the notes he writes in the months he was trapped in the doll, we can see him losing his sanity slowly as time passed. On one of the notes, he expresses his anger after Skid receives a Halloween gift for Christmas instead of a cat (Lila mentioned how Skid wanted one, even if Skid doesnt even like them). There's a reason behind this. Dexter asked Skid to get a cat because he wanted to prevent himself from killing Skid, and instead he wanted a cat that "doesn't have feelings" (as he expressed on a doodle by Pelo, where he says animals dont have feelings). Pelo said he's planning on making a short were we can see Dexter's past with his mom, and how he became insane. Fun fact: he canonically has ASPD, which makes him a sociopath (basically a psychopath with standards) due to very possibly childhood trauma. We can know he's not a psychopath because 1, Pelo confirmed it, 2, he has certain standards as seen in minute 6:09 where he complains with Roy about the clothes thing, and in the notes (ARG) he stops himself from killing Skid and Pump as i said before. In conclusion, Dexter is not pure evil, he's a sociopath with trauma that kills animals because he was never taught that they have feelings (and was possibly neglected/abused when young). He's a disturbed individual and, as Pelo said, a bad guy trying not to get worse. A complex and tragic character, probably the most complex of the show when it comes to psychology.

Dang imagine how much it would suck to be him in the show You go to do a job of hunting a rat to fufill your needs and then in the middle of it you get possessed by some random demon that gets you trapped in a doll, then your body dies and your trapped in the doll with 2 kids carrying you around, all while being forced to look at the one who basically caused this by hiring you and not being able to fufill your needs, then going through a whole night of getting your plans ruined just to end with you being incinerated slowly not once but twice and now you cannot see your loved ones or get revenge as you are trapped as ash and eyes in a bucket.

I think the idea of dexter's psychopathic nature worsened while he was possessing the doll. Initially he had a need to harm things, so he took the roll of an exterminator to avoid hurting people and to hurt vermin to fulfill his needs, only occasionally killing a cat. Once he was in the doll however, he slowly started going insane, he thought of killing skid and pump but refused to because they were kids but I guess being a kids plaything slowly drove him insane to the point where he'd do anything to fulfill his needs.

Dexter possessed the doll after dying because he wanted to get revenge on Skid and Lila because of the demon who was in their attic
I think the idea of dexter's psychopathic nature worsened while he was possessing the doll. Initially he had a need to harm things, so he took the roll of an exterminator to avoid hurting people and to hurt vermin to fulfill his needs, only occasionally killing a cat. Once he was in the doll however, he slowly started going insane, he thought of killing skid and pump but refused to because they were kids but I guess being a kids plaything slowly drove him insane to the point where he'd do anything to fulfill his needs.
The secret notes show dexters decline as he has nothing to kill so he gos crazy and decides to kill the kids
@Ditto-Guy although he initially refuses to kill the kids, which is why he tells skid to ask for a cat, and why he tries killing everyone else before the kids.

Hered a fun fact if you look very VERY CLOSELY in the attic you can see Dexter aka the ashes watching the kids in a bucket and now he is there forever
