I actually bought an original Xbox at a retro gaming store a few months ago. I wanted to play the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games again on the original system. After that, I bought a bunch of other games as well. It's been a blast.
"As always, older systems are built to last." Just make sure to replace the clock capacitor when you get the chance. Original XBox's clock capacitor are known to go kablooey at this age and can damage the main board beyond repair. Might want to install a mod chip at the same time so you can get high quality HDMI out and can connect to capture cards and/or modern monitors/tv's. If you want to get even fancier, you could even install more RAM and even a faster processor thanks to the modern mod chips available and that would allow the system to run smoother on some games, especially if you're playing them in a higher resolution. All of that other stuff is extra though compared to the capacitor issue.
I still have my crystal xBox from when I was a kid. It was buried in my parents attic for years, but they found it when pulling our Christmas decorations last year and it still works perfectly. Set it up with a 14" built in VHS player CRT TV that I picked up on FB Marketplace for £10. (I wanted a small TV as it has the most nostalgia for me since the one in my childhood bedroom was small) I also have a PS2 Slim and Snes Mini set up with it.
P.S. It's cool to know that people still enjoy playing the old games. I've been contemplating purchasing one of the game systems that has hundreds of old games on it. I actually enjoy playing older games more than the new ones.
Never had a console in my life - c64 and Amiga was my jam. Then PC. But its so cool to see that old machines still kicking! Great video and congrats on your purchase!
I just got my haxxed OG Xbox working again for $50 over here in China. So stoked to have Halo again. I'd prefer non hacked and physical games, but ...China, so hey.
Do you have an Atari 520 St? Or a ZX Spectrum, the direct competitor of the Commodore, because the new one has just come out and a review of it would be cool.😊😊😅
The original XboX was the first console that I bought with my own money, what a blast from the past. Though I got a mod chip installed into mine since we only had dial-up in the area I lived in.
One of the most beautiful consoles ever made. Playing Halo on this beast?! Hell yeah man. My brother and I had our PS1 and a Nintendo 64 (still got them, still working conditions), bought this Xbox and never came back until we got gaming PCs. Comunque sei sempre un grande e ti guardo nei momenti di sconforto (sempre). Non sai quanto ti invidi per capacità cerebrali, passione e conoscenza e quanto ti ammiri. Grande!
Love that OG Xbox. I've rebuilt 3 over the last year. It's the closest console to a PC and fun to take apart. Sadly I'm having trouble finding a reasonably priced disk drive for the third Xbox so I soft modded it, put in a 500GB drive and transferred the games from my computer. Have fun Metatron!
So many channels! What a pleasant surprise. Been watching your content on the main channel for a while and have only recently found the others. Looking forward to the content
Ghost Recon 2 is a really good game. It was one of my favorites for the Xbox back in the day. You can play split screen with up to 3 other people and do custom missions offline and has pretty good graphics for the time.
I was more a Sony fan growing up but when my big brother bought an xbox, it was crazy good. My nephew has it as well and i would go over once a week just to play MK Armageddon.
Man that box brings back memories it was my second console I ever had after the N64. The first two games I bought was Halo and Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball. I was a horny kid.
You might want to open that bad boy up and remove the capacitor that feeds the CMOS battery. There was a bit of a capacitor famine around that time, and Microsoft used some really sketchy suppliers to meet the deadlines. Overtime time these low-grade capacitors will rupture and corrode your board - killing your Xbox. If you don't feel comfortable replacing the capacitor, you can just snip it off. It won't actually affect the system operation, aside from having to reset the date and time each time you unplug the Xbox or have a power outage.
It’s been years since I’ve pressed that button. I’ve pressed the N64, SNES, PS1, and PS2 button more recently than the Xbox button. Should upload some fights from Capcom.
I never had an Xbox as a kid, but last year I saw a bundle of 38 games for just £120 pounds, and it came with stuff like Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and Project Zero, which are quite expensive on their own, so I nabbed it up before even owning an Xbox lol. Got one now of course, so for the past year I've went through a bunch of classics I missed out on like the Dead or Alive games and Ninja Gaiden Black.
Didn't know you had this channel so I was like "woah that guy looks exactly like Metatron" when I saw the thumbnail lmao. Awesome find, though! Are you going to mod it at all?
If you own an original Xbox, remove the clock capacitor before it destroys your motherboard! Why remove it?: Essentially, on all motherboard models EXCEPT v1.6, Microsoft chose a cheap super capacitor to power the clock while your console is off. At around the 10 year mark after the console was made, people noticed that the capacitor -- which is filled with acid -- corroded it's way through the capacitor and leaked all over their motherboards, causing permanent damage. Essentially if this capacitor is not removed, the console is just a ticking time bomb that will eventually kill itself. Are there any negative effects from removing this capacitor?: If your motherboard is a revision 1.6 motherboard, you will need to replace the capacitor with a new one, or else it won't boot (though it is unnecessary to remove it because they are different capacitors than previous models). If your console is on a very old softmod or BIOS version, it may not have the "clock loop" fix and will be stuck in a boot loop until you manually fix it by adding a font file to the HDD (Ernie font) or the latest MSDash, so make sure to update your softmod first if you haven't. Otherwise, the only thing affected is that the system time will not be accurate once unplugged. How can I tell if I have a 1.6 motherboard?: Boot the Xbox in dashboard mode (by powering up without a disc in the DVD-ROM drive). Go to Settings and then System Info. A disclaimer will scroll down and will eventually show you two version numbers: a "K:" value for the kernel and a "D:" value for the dashboard. If the K value is 5838, it is a revision 1.6 motherboard and you do not need to remove the capacitor.
The duke is still better than any ps controller at the time as it had triggers shaped like triggers. Something which sony still fails on the this day which is amazing to me. The 's' controller was a little too small for me but was still miles ahead of any other controller at the time. Those tabs instead of triggers that sony seem to insist on are terrible. I used the ps4 controller when i had a ps4 pro for a year before giving it away. The controllers are bad in pretty much every way compared with xbox.
the og xbox has aged amazingly
still have mine :)
it did create Kodi and Plex through XBMC after all
That brings great memories of joy and sadness when I remember how consoles have been handled by their companies nowadays.
I think Nintendo is still doing well. I certainly still enjoy them, especially after the Dark Age of WiiU
You can't get the complete Xbox experience without the duke.
Such a powerful beast in its day and a great library too.

I didn't know you made videos about those old systems behind you! Great stuff, please keep it up!
I love the designs of consoles from the 2000s.
Legit one of the best music players ever. Mixing tunes in game. Custom song on entrances and the like… good times

Unreal Championship 2, Mech Assault 1 and 2....the memories.
That looks really cool.
I love retro consoles and old TVs and stuff like that.😊😊😊
That Xbox is Canadian. It has the French and English on the box.

This was fun brought back long forgotten memories from a lifelong Sony fan lol
As a Sega kid for life, to us Sega guys back then the the og xbox was the Dreamcast 2. still have my og xbox from day 1 such an amazing console.
Hit me right in the nostalgia

Gosh that power on screen. Brings me back

Best part of the OG Xbox is the fact the games are so cheap! There are some great exclusives and typically has the best version of multy-plats
I would love to watch you do a Let’s Play on some of those games if you can find a way to capture it

People need to like this comment more. This is the 1st thing you should do when buying any OG Xbox.
good video
I thought you dyed your hair green in the thumbnail lol
kinda like Jake Long American Dragon

The TH-cam algorithm led me to this channel of yours I wasn’t aware off existed.
I was in my last greasy teenager years when this console came out 😂
Didn't know you had this channel so I was like "woah that guy looks exactly like Metatron" when I saw the thumbnail lmao. Awesome find, though! Are you going to mod it at all?
this one was part of my childhood
I have this exact same model, mine came without the box with 8 games and cost me about $ 90 .
I still have my xbox although I need to take it apart and fix the tray
Hopefully the capacitors are replaced. Other than that nice deal.
Don't show Ebay to this man. He might go bankroupt from all the deals.

Is it Roman?
Who else clicked because of the thumbnail thinking Metatron colored his hair.
you did it wrong you were supposed to have a yellow screen at startup 😄
Still patiently waiting for your reply to badempanada 🙏🏼
I have two ps2 in original box and one that was never opened
👍
Fire up some halo 2
Nice
I hate this console so much. I'll never buy another one.
7 is enough. maybe 8, but no more!
You said previously the OG PSX was fat. So what is this?
Never owned any Xbox console. All Nintendo ones, Dreamcast, PS2+3 and PC.
You should have got the Xbox series x 🙄
Already have that
You’re kind of missing the point, aren’t you?
The original Xbox was revolutionary. Mod it.
TRASH controller for a teen tho! WAAAY to big in the hands
