      @@areminderofwhatweare The rules only list what you can't do or must do......everything else is fair game. I would have wired the hei directly to the battery and jumped the starter with a screwdriver. This would have been a very easy challenge, but then again I own a 79 C20 that I have done EVERYTHING to, including rewiring all of it, replacing all the fuel lines for the dual tank setup, installed a gearvendors od, upgraded the engine to a 406 sbc with a forged crank and aluminum top end, electric locks and windows, autometer pro comp gauges, etc.

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@areminderofwhatweare I don't watch sports and have zero interest in playing basketball, but if it isn't against the rules, go for it. Do basketball teams not pass the ball to a person waiting in a good location to easily get the ball in the net? I would bet the way the game is started would prevent you from doing what you described if you were a single player. If players on a team don't do that, then it is either not possible or practical or against rules....there are plenty of people out there just to win. I do watch Cleetus McFarland (for the mechanics, story, and characters/people, not really the racing) where they do what they can to win races and they have run their car with no coolant on a hurt engine and gambled further damaging it to win the race or set a new record. It depends on the players' goals. I compete in shooting competitions where I have to decide how I want to tackle a course of fire and there are sometimes shortcuts you can use that do not break the rules but require creative thinking or planning. Each course will have directions and /or requirements that vary and a big part of the game is for each shooter to decide what order and method to use to get the hits as fast as possible to have the fastest time.

This channel provides all the information i quite literally had to fight (hand to hand) to learn. I'm a young mechanic barely getting into it about 5 years ago when I made it my mission to get my grandpa's 1982 f100 running after he passed away. It hurt me watching rot on the driveway so I decided to watch TH-cam videos and get ford literature to look at. It brings joy hearing that engine crank and try to run in fact I have that feeling in my throat like crying while writing this comment because it reminds me of when I finally got my grandpa's truck to run after such a long time. Going from very little knowledge to knowing as much as I know now is proof that you can learn so much from just jumping into working on a project vehicle. Working with your hands and having that drive to get something done.

    FYI there is a very short bolt in the front of the engine that covers a hole that a longer bolt will lock the pushrod up so fuel pump removal and installation is easy and you do not need to fight the pushrod. It's just below the freeze plug on the front of the motor right side.

    Small block Chevy has a bolt in the front of the block near the fuel pump. It was a left over from the previous pre 1955 motor mount design. You can pull that bolt out put your favorite flat head screwdriver in to hold the rod up putting in the new pump. Just make sure to throw a little silicone on a washer when you put that bolt in. Oil from the crank will leak out if you don’t.

    In case there’s an engine being an ass with fitting the pushrod during fuel pump replacement, it’s safe to use standard “palm size”- a glob of petroleum jelly to help hold it in place. Soon as engine starts it dissipates with heat and will not harm anything, just like it doesn’t harm your hand from the friction.

    theres a bolt on the front of the block that goes into the cavity where the fuel pump bolts up. that allows you to put a screw driver into it and hold the push rod up while installing the fuel pump. just need a little rtv on the bolt when you put it back in.

    Another way to diagnose a distributor 180 degrees out is if you find where cylinder 1 is, take the plug out of the cylinder and put your thumb on the hole where the plug was then bring the motor up to the compression stroke you'll hear a hiss and feel pressure on your thumb have whoever stop cracking the motor and check what cylinder the rotor is pointing to

    That should have been a 30 minute diagnose and repair. The fuel pump drive rod has a neat trick that you don’t need to remove the plate. It’s called a pick. And no need to turn the engine over to get by the cam lobe. The fuel pump can easily be pushed in
