Vice City was beyond amazing! Still remember the first time I heard that intro theme...nostalgia! Mafia: City of Lost Heaven was another gem ahead of it's time too.
Watching this brought back so many memories, and broke my heart at the same time, because as a 15/16 year old in 2002 life had been so much simpler and less painful.

@@abandonedship1233 Yep - I've never uninstalled it... the graphics and controls are a little outdated, but a little simple modding to increase draw distance and frame-rate makes it so much better, still golden to this day.
I agree, most of the reason for its dislike was because it wasn't Star Fox 64 II...which is a dumb reason to hate on a game. You judge a game for what it is, not for what it isn't.
I legitimately get the urge to cry when someone brings up the old ratchet and clank games man those were so good love to have them remade to just be better
To be fair, I never played those games when I was younger. (Lacked a PS2 to play it, go figure.) But I installed the games on the PS3,(The HD versions) And I wish I did play the games when I was younger because it was exactly what people described it as: Spyro, but with guns and robots. Playing it for the first time made me _feel_ like a kid too. I kept getting stuck in certain sections, wondering how to progress, dying stupidly, and taking 2-3 days to defeat Drek at the end. I played the sequels too, up to Future: Tools of Destruction.
the story has so many fun places like the boat. The weapons are so hardcore doing mega dmg. The driving is so realistic with the psychics for that time. All and all my fav gangster game and closest to San Andreas in my heart XD

wouldn't count on it. Sony encourages studios to create what they want and it's obvious that Sucker Punch has moved on from that IP. we'd probably more likely get a different studio to make a new game in the series like Thieves In Time
I remember when Battlefield 1942 came out and it being amazing with all the vehicles (planes,tanks,jeeps) after playing soo much counter-strike it was a refreshing change of pace.
Thank you for having Timesplitters 2 in this list. I think the fan base is now quit old so it’s important to talk about it. I really hope they’ll make a new one.
I'm only 17 and I have some very fond memories of TimeSplitters because even though I was young when it came over I played it with my dad for years afterwards, I always tell my friends about it even though none of them know what it is.
That was my first PS2 game I ever got. I had to trade in over 20 PlayStation 1 games to have enough money to buy it. I was 11 years old and didn’t realize game crazy was Ripping me off with store credit.
I broke my Ankle first day of 6th Grade and was Stuck on a Couch for Two Weeks while it got better, that God Damn game kept me sane. First thing I ever 100% completed and was nice thing to Couch Co-op when friends came over.
Ha yea me and my buddy skipped school and rented it at blockbuster. We then proceeded to get stoned and played it start to finish...ahh good times....simple times
The Lord Of The Rings : The Third Age , a forgotten gem but one of my all time favourite LOTR games ever made. I wish they would bring out a sequel/prequel for it too.

I never have played GTA Vice City before, but it sounds like an incredible game when you play as Thomas "Tommy" Vercetti to explore around the Vice City, like it's Miami.

Wow, this video just took me right to the past. I was in 7th grade in 2002. Me and friends had all of these games. I had a PS2, another buddy had a Game Cube, and another had an Xbox. We would go to each others homes and play some of these exclusive titles. We each had Soul Caliber 2 on our respective consoles. We would all whoop ass with home field advantage. This video was super Nostalgic for me. Thanks for making it
@@bernardoheusi6146 In a way they kind of were in the sense that devs were more experimental, game development was still pretty young and hasn't been streamlined yet. There are still amazing trendsetter games today too but I feel like it's far less. Hard to innovate when so much has been done before.
Hitman 2 for sure, fell in love with this, the amount of levels just kept going and going, contracts was stunning visually at the time but ended too fast, silent assassin still my fave hitman
I was gonna say Metroid prime and you have it in the list lol, it's memorable to me cause it's the first console I bought with my hard earn cash when I got a part time with my dad, it was the hardest 2 weeks but it was worth it, at that time my local Walmart had it for sale with the GameCube bundle.
Dark Cloud 2 and The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker are the only 2 games I could think to add from 2002. Edit and smack me for forgetting but Kingdom Hearts also.
My addition will be the original Mafia (Mafia 1). That game changed the way I looked at video games. I am so glad you guys got Allied Assault in the list, loved that one. Still vividly remember the last mission.

Vice City had the best feel to it. The 80s soundtrack and the Scarface/Miami Vice inspiration made it the best story line of the GTA series. Its hard to compare GTA IV and V to the early 2000s releases, the controls and cover scheme makes the gameplay alot better now but how can you top driving by Miami Beach to Flock of Seagulls? Also the first time I got in a helicopter in VC was one of my most memorable video game moments.

Man to be 14 again things just seemed simpler than the internet was still like the wild west chatrooms were everywhere and just people still didn't have phones glued to their hands and people didn't seem in such a rush.
I still go back to Vice City. Even if it's just to drive around and listen to the radio. Great music and dj's. It's just feels like a home town and you only remember the good times because they were all good.
Timesplitters 2 level creator was amazing for the time! My friends and I would build whole games in there and play each other's stuff. It was wonderful!!!
Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem was a brilliantly dark game. Definitely ahead of its time and worth playing if you're into the mind bending horror thriller kind of games.

Jet Set Radio Future was probably one of the most underrated games of 2002. Great gameplay, dope music, and interesting concepts all around

Ratchet and Clank is my favorite gaming franchise of all time. Love the worlds, stories, gameplay and upgrade loops that those games have to offer.

I loved when the characters in Mario actually talked. I wish that carried over to the newer games.
I definitely agree. The voice acting in Sunshine is surprisingly good (for a Mario game at least), and it really adds to the story.

Dark Cloud 2 was my favorite game of 2002. I pray Sony gives the rights of the franchise back to level 5 studios so we get a dark cloud 3.

Splinter Cell was WAY AHEAD of its time, so advanced that some games today still doesn't have that kind of stealth.

A great game that came out in 2003 was "Kya Dark Lineage." Super underrated and i loved playing it back in the day.

Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem was a brilliantly dark game. Definitely ahead of its time and worth playing if you're into the mind bending horror thriller kind of games.

Xenosaga Episode I is one of my all time favorite games, and it never gets any love. It saddens me how deeply it has fallen into obscurity.
Everyone knows games top out at early 2000s'. After that most games improved on graphics but not story nor gameplay.
