As a barber I don't recommend cutting your own hair. With that said, I admit from time to time that I do it myself. You did a good job. Here are some tips for you: Make sure that you work slowly. In your case I would invest in some large hair clips to keep the long hair out of your way while cutting the rest. Work only in an area with two mirrors (three are better), turn on the lights. Your arms will tire quickly because you are raising them constantly in unusual positions, so start with the back first and then move onto the sides. Then do the left side if you are right handed and so on. Clipper tips: start with higher number guards and work your way down to shorter ones. The way you did it you removed the "cliff" on the side. By taking a higher numbered guard and keeping the shape square coming off the round of your head you would have kept the general style. Work with the taper level too to taper or fade it in better. They are adjustable from open to closed with various lengths in between. As for the wiggy effect, the hair on top has grown too and you have taken the fade up high. You could ask your beard's girlfriend to trim off a 1/4-1/2 an inch at the very back and the point cut that edge in order to break it up. You could try it yourself too. Anything you need to know, just ask. I'll give you a 7.5 out of 10. Everyone f*#ks up some time and hair does grow back. BTW keep this to yourself - this is just between us. 😉💈✂️

The Buon Life Yes! I pay almost $200 here in Charlotte NC. I have longish curly/wavy hair and it can get jacked up if the stylist doesn't know how to work with it. I go every 8 - 12 weeks. I do some trims myself to save cash.

I do my own buzz fade/under cut and I'm always super self conscious of the result like I fucked my shit up, but then to everyone else it looks alright. Your hair looks decent and intentional, even the back of the head, nice video man

Hilarious video- pretty decent results I must say. Cutting your own hair is a battle! I just recently chopped off an inch off the top of my hair to make it into more of a hard part crop type style with some scissors I just purchased for my beard. Things got weird when mid cut a Real Estate agent came to the door giving me the hard sell to list my house. I was like - Dude look at me I'm kind of in the middle of something. Get a 3 way mirror, i think thats what they're called. But it should help you get the sides and the back and make it a lot easier to cut

Wow Jeff! I didn't realize that a haircut was that expensive in NY City. I wear a very basic high and tight and get my haircut once a week for $7 (agreement with my barber). I live in Houston, TX. I don't believe I could ever cut my own hair - I know I would make a royal mess of it. I can see why you do it though.
I guess if I had to live in New York I would embrace the completely even trimmed head haha

Hi Jeff! i recently started cutting my own hair aswell (trimming the sides) and it is extremely difficult but i acctually enjoy it alot. And it is time consuming, like 40-60mins if i try to get a half decent fade. But actually i dont do it to save money, i've been practicing it just cause i'm really in to hair. I know it sounds weird :D But still.
BTW, haircut in my city costs JUST arround 9 dollars. In capital (Vilnius) arround 30 :D

I never had the balls to do this. But I need to do it between cuts to save me going every 3 weeks.

You are a brave man! It's not easy to cut your hair in a mirror, everything is reversed and distorted! I have cut my own hair for years and do a great job! Oh did i mention I'm bald on top and I trim the rest with an electric razor! I have it easy!

Whoa! 80-200 bucks for a hair cut, does that include dinner? :0 I live in a small mountain town in NE Georgia and the average price is 12 bucks and I cringe at that. Decent job on the cut Jeff, nice to have such good thick hair. I've had a bald spot since I was 20.

Why not just get a friends to trim up the parts that are hard to reach and see? this is fairly easy too if you already have the haircut in place and just need to trim the sides and back abit the only reason it's hard alone is cause it's hard to see where you are cutting.
+Johan Sandberg it's hard to find a friend to do it. Let alone Everytime you'd need it. It would be a bother and needy. No one likes need people. I like to take care of things myself. Help shouldn't be a reoccurring thing, it should be circumstantial I believe. Like if your friend asks to borrow your lawn mower every single time they mow their lawn, after a while you'd be like. Dude, get your own mower!

Hmm. Well, they are your parents, and you are young. So I wouldn't sweat it. However I will say I personally don't do this haircut anymore because it's a pain in the ass. So take that for what it's worth.
