- Number 29 - ESB’s Georgian House Museum
The ESB came to us with a very specific problem to solve. A new ESB corporate headquarters is being constructed at Fitzwilliam Street and during these build works the adjoining Georgian House Museum is closed to the public for the duration of the construction.
So how do people who want to experience this fully restored Georgian house do so when it's closed?
Our solution encompassed a complete digitisation of the house and the creation of a Virtual Reality experience so potential visitors could step inside the building and explore it in it's entirety from the basement to the top floor!
Not only did we create a new website and branding we also produced a documentary to tell the story of Number 29 from the housekeepers perspective to show what life was like in Georgian Dublin in the late 1800's.
We scanned the entire house in 3D using advanced imaging and infrared cameras and created an interactive and immersive experience that's available through the Number 29 website, on mobile devices and VR headsets. Visitors can now step back in time seamlessly and explore the sights and sounds of this beautiful Georgian house and learn about the wider Irish history of when Dublin was the second city of the mighty British empire.

Dublin City Council has refused permission for the conversion of the ESB Georgian House Museum to apartment use. In reaching this decision they stated that the museum is located in "a significant cultural quarter adjacent to some of the city’s most popular cultural and historic tourist attractions and having regard to Policy CHC24, CHC29 and CHC43 of the Dublin City Development Plan 2016-2022, the proposed change of use from museum would constitute a loss of a significant cultural use in an established cultural quarter. The proposal would reduce the range of cultural and tourist activities in the City Core and would set an undesirable precedent for the loss of further cultural facilities in the City".

I dream to be able to visit this museum someday - does anyone have any further news about it? Will it ever be reopened or we have lost a Georgian treasure?
Serive Francaise was not new at that time - it had been around since the Middle Ages. That is when all the dishes are laid out on the table at the same time. What was new (but not until Victoirian times) was service alla Russe - service in sepearate courses as we do today
