Thank you all for the gift of getting to see this amazingly beautiful garden! I'm blown away by its layers of design and color. And, I'm so grateful for the 4 cornerstones as a take away. Such a gift!
This man has "IT" when it comes to designing a garden! These aren't even my personal favorite kinds of plants, but the way he has his garden put together is absolutely stunning! You have some friends that have some great spaces.
This garden almost brought me to tears. The colors just invoke such happiness. I cannot imagine the calm and wonder one has visiting this garden. Thank you for inviting us to see it. Absolutely beautiful.
Dang, that is a cool garden.. he has a talent...he's true designer..like a artist with plants..you can squint your eyes and it looks like water colors..lol.. Thanks for inviting us along..you know some of the coolest people
Love this 'meadow on the edge of the forest' vibe. More wide-open feeling than a lot of them, but you've still got that back garden for a more enclosed and intimate space.
"The big ole layer cake of garden design." .....what a great quote from Mr. Sifford. With his terrain, it is very much layered. Similar to Ram, but she accomplishes this on a subdivision lot. Great video Jim and Stephany.
OH MY GOODNESS, my dream come true. I have been drooling over your garden ever since the Fine Gardening article was featured. Your garden, and a few others from Roy Diblik, have been my inspiration for a stylized meadow for my own new 2.5 acre property in Central VA. We actually put the fire pit down a curvy path and are building the garden beds around it like you have. I put mountain mint, amsonia and grasses along the edges so I could enjoy nature up close. This will be a long term project as we acquire all the evergreens, grasses and natives that I want, but I am truly grateful, Jim, for seeing and loving this garden in a video. A+ to you Jay. Thank you for the inspiration.
Truly UNBELIEVABLE!!! It was therapeutic just getting the chance to “look around”. J&S you may need to go back when those Rhododendrons are blooming… I’m just saying…
Something about Orange Rocket barberry draws my eye every time I see them. I saw these in the original drone video and thought "What are those!?!?!" I wasn't sure if they were Orange Rocket or a different/newer version that is more red. These garden tours are so enjoyable and inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Perfect timing. For the first time in years I woke up early to hear the birds sing and to my dismay there is no longer the echo of various species because a third of the woods behind me are gone due to mismanagement. Your video gave me ideas on how to upgrade my neck of these woods to provide food, nesting and protection and instead of drainage pipes planting those wet and boggy areas for the amphibians and pollinators. Thanks Jim for an inspiring video!
11:34. This. I am a NEW gardener. I have killed my fair share of plants, but I always tell my wife, this is an experiment. I am figuring out what works and what I like. Getting there slowly
There's a lot of natural vegetation here that the deer are accustomed to and totally happy eating. Additionally, many of my neighbors are deer hunters. And finally, for a few things I spray with a wonderful peppermint oil based repellent called Deer Out.
This is AMAZING! This would be my dream garden I think. He works with color and shapes so well! It reminds me of the children's book The Lorax by: Dr. Suess. Just lovely and full of magic indeed!
An amazing and talented gardner, wonderful person, and (as a teenager) the best sitter for two kids down the street who couldn't wait for him to get there when their parents were out! ❤
Amazing landscape. It definitely has the magic. I love that he has sun and bog. I would love both too. Can't gush enough...thanks for giving us the tour!
So enjoyable! Great gardeners have killed a lot of plants - that's wisdom. It's all trial and error, and a very humbling vocation/avocation. Which is what makes gardening such an important aspect of mental health for everyone who gets dirt under their fingernails. Jim, your enthusiasm was palpable.
Gorgeous!!!!! I wonder about how people water in large landscape and how they handle with deer/rabbits especially lives close to the woody area. I created too much of the gardens and now it is overwhelming to do hand watering and it seems to be too large to do for 1/4” drip irrigation system. Thank you very much.
I'm fortunate in that we receive enough rain here and have fairly cool summer temperatures so I do not have to water most things. In fact, most of these plants have never been watered by me in four years. I don't have a rabbit issue, I suppose because of the number of hawks. For deer repellent, I use a peppermint oil based product called Deer Out.
This garden is an absolute dream! “Stylized meadow” is my favorite style. But I don’t think I’ve seen it done with so many conifers and I absolutely love it. I live in SW Washington in 8a and many conifers do extremely well here. I’m going to be adding more to my design. This is a very inspiring tour. Thank you 🙏🏻
Beautiful space! I could feel my blood pressure goi g down it was so peaceful! I have 2 orange rocket barberry-I love how he had them throughout the garden … I might have to get a few more!
Really appreciate the tour and especially the before and after pics you included. Makes me feel like I could do something like this, but on a smaller scale! Very inspiring…
Wow! Stunning garden! If only it were possible to use such a lavish hand (why plant 8 when 180 will make such a better statement????). Still, so many great ideas. In particular, I adore the swathe of blue lyme grass punctuated by dark barberries. Lots and lots of takeaways...
Thank you for sharing this most amazing garden with us! I live in Zone 5b, so many of these plants work up here in Illinois. Videos like this one give me so much inspiration!
Hello Jim and Jay! I loooove your wonderful garden videos, Jim. Thank you for your knowledgeable videos related to gardening and your great field trips. Jay, your garden in the mountains of North Carolina is so beautiful, and I love your tips on a great garden. Your artistic touch to the garden is so appreciated and awed. From Humboldt County, California. Thanks, Jim and Jay! 🌸🍀🍁
At first I didn't get it. Then when I saw the creek,it was like, yes! Keeping that deep in the woods atmosphere. A bit busy for me,but for a get away home, it's very Serene.
What an absolutely breathtaking garden! I have so many questions. Where does one source 150+ ornamental grasses? More importantly, how do you cut 150+ grasses back in the late winter? We're a 2 person team and grassacre day for our 30+ has become our annual marriage litmus test. Thank you for sharing Mr. Sifford's amazing garden!
@@jaysifford9419 Thank you so much for replying! Your garden is beautiful and you have inspired me to plant more ornamental grasses. Take care and happy gardening!
Fabulous gardens! Maybe something to aspire to. I like your guest’s amphitheatre metaphor, the seating area in the middle of all of that glorious color! And that spiral staircase! 👌
Just breathtaking! I appreciate hearing Jay's 4 garden cornerstones and seeing the before pics. My eyes never stopped moving. Thanks for taking us along.
This is very beautiful. I know he says to plant 100s of grasses, but you don’t need to in order to have similar impact. Along a partially shaded and curved brick pathway, I planted 15 Japanese forest grass, all gold, backed by 9 Salvia black and bloom (in the sunnier spot) also staggered. In a smaller space, it has wonderful impact, continuity and movement. I also have the plants tying into other places in the garden-again, mass planted but not in the scale in this video! 💕
You are correct. Scaling to your space is quite important. Maybe sometime we'll do another video on small space gardening. In my city townhome, I garden in a courtyard of less than 300 square feet. And, as you so well point out, grouping more of fewer species together can be just a dramatic.
Thank You Jay for sharing your paradise with us! Also love the “4 Cornerstones” 😊 Every where you turn it’s like a painting 🖼️ I’ll keep on eye on Insta for more 🤗 Thanks Jim & Steph for bringing this to us!
Such an amazing garden! The colors are so vibrant but not garish. I could really see how it glows and I bet even more so in the evening. Just so lovely.
My two fave garden guys! Jay - what a stunning amount of growth your West Jeff garden is showing. Beautiful garden ❤ Here in the Raleigh area, my Orange Rockets have faded out when compared to your display. I’ve learned so much from both of you. I am delighted to see this collaboration. 👍🏻
Fabulous garden, tour, information, and video! Super inspiring… though climbing down that outdoor spiral staircase (what a feat of garden engineering) would make me a bit leery
Marvelous. This was a treat to watch. Jay, thanks for your work on Houzz and all that you do to inspire us home gardeners. Jim, loving your channel. Thanks for your dedication to producing exceptional content. Thanks to you two and your teams behind you!
Thank you all for the gift of getting to see this amazingly beautiful garden! I'm blown away by its layers of design and color. And, I'm so grateful for the 4 cornerstones as a take away. Such a gift!
Drawing your eyes through the garden makes sense but haven’t heard that before.
This man has "IT" when it comes to designing a garden! These aren't even my personal favorite kinds of plants, but the way he has his garden put together is absolutely stunning! You have some friends that have some great spaces.
It would be wonderful to see this garden in the Spring…
❤❤❤💯..absolutely stunning..!!
WOW!!! This is a great garden on all levels. Color, plant choice, garden art, and atmosphere. It's all here. Thanks Jim and Steph!
This is amazing! Looks like you’re standing in a painting!
If you pause the video at 3:08, it looks like the men are standing inside a painting.
Blown away by the diversity and tranquility radiating from this garden through my screen! Fav garden tour of all time. Talk about Garden goals!
This garden almost brought me to tears. The colors just invoke such happiness. I cannot imagine the calm and wonder one has visiting this garden. Thank you for inviting us to see it. Absolutely beautiful.

All that chartreuse foliage! You really do enjoy being in the ‘limelight.’
Love this 'meadow on the edge of the forest' vibe. More wide-open feeling than a lot of them, but you've still got that back garden for a more enclosed and intimate space.
The only thing I could utter throughout the video was "oh my gosh!" What an amazing space, thank you so much for sharing this Jim and Steph!! 🤩🙏🏾
This garden takes my breath away, I need to go buy lots and lots of trees and grasses now!
Stunning!
words cannot describe how beautiful!
What an absolutely gorgeous garden. Thanks for all the great ideas and the tour 😃👍🏽🌳

Please share who this "Ram" is that you speak of so I may research their work.

How does he keep the dear from trashing his buffet?
There's a lot of natural vegetation here that the deer are accustomed to and totally happy eating. Additionally, many of my neighbors are deer hunters. And finally, for a few things I spray with a wonderful peppermint oil based repellent called Deer Out.
Plus they are all over at my house mowing down my garden.
I have rabbits destroying everything I try and plant, even supposedly ‘rabbit proof’ plants.

My word that was lovely. The still shots at the end were spectacular too. Steph did such a great job with the camera.

Ha. Thanks Sky. We haven't connected in way too many years! I hope all is going splendidly with you.
I love the idea of stitching the various evergreens and conifers together with grasses! Makes perfect sense for eclectic plants in the same space!
Wow so this guy pretty much planted a forest, the before and after pics are striking.
Beautiful garden in a wonderful part of NC! What a gift to have a budget which allows for this level of planting!
Great content! So many pro tips… “use purples and blues to calm down loud colors” beautiful garden.
Magical!

Beautiful design and plant selection create serenity in this garden.
Wow! Thank you for sharing. Love his garden.
So many ideas that I can now grow in my garden that I didn't know I could. What an amazing garden!
