This was a fantastic analysis. Even though I have some differing interpreations, your interpretations are so well-founded that I see nothing to criticize, and that's the kind of conversation I would love to see and experience more of around this series. Personally, I see Higuruma passing his sword on to Yuji as a mistake, of giving into his guilt and dying when he should atone with his life, not his death. Because his technique does end up flickering out at the last moment, meaning his theory that techniques grow stronger in death was wrong.
Characters who choose to die to reach some goal in this story are consistently punished, not rewarded, from Nanami going straight back into the jaws of hell to try and rescue Megumi - who, unbeknownst to Nanami, had already been rescued - to the way Yuji's own self-destructive mentality meant he played right into Sukuna's hands and gave him the means to take over Megumi's body instead. Higuruma wanted to die to atone for his sins, but his death won't move the needle. If he'd tried harder to live, then he might have made things right through his own living efforts. And in trying to die as a gambit to enhance his technique and pass it on to Yuji, he ended up reducing the chances of victory instead.
However, like I said, you've built such a strong case for your interpretation that even though it's different from mine, I still like it a lot and can totally see that perspective too. A curse can help someone live, after all, just like Nanami told Gojo in that dying vision. Like how Yuji's cog mentality, as corrosive as it was, as much harm as it did to him, kept him alive and moving forward. It nearly destroyed him, but if he hadn't adopted it, he might not have survived. Even if his grandfather's words were a curse, they kept his feet on this path when deviating in any way would have killed him or seen him lose sight of his identity and ideals.
Once again: fantastic analysis. I look forward to seeing more and more of your insights into this and other series.

The use of his powers are some of the best I’ve seen, and how they tie into his past make him my favorite character. He was a defense lawyer whose powers turned him into a prosecutor. He then began abusing his powers omniscience to force people to be guilty weather or not they were innocent only to have it thrown in his face when an innocent boy is nearly put to death by his own hands. Then that being brought back as the fulcrum of their plan to take out Sukuna was icing on the cake.

I cannot stretch this enough, you are Hiromi Higuruma in anime analysis. People are so quickly to judge jjk for everything that isn't like the manga and conventional storytelling they are used to, and you just show how unfair that treatment is when regarging such a multifaceted piece of fiction. Of course jjk has its flaws, but you show its inner beauty that is hidden in a tapestry of lobotamy kaisen, and for that fucking thank you

Came out of nowhere & stole all our hearts.
In his previous court room trial his client is put to death by the justice system. In his last trial against Sukuna he's able to prove Yuji's innocence. Another parallel to how he was unburdened before dying.
I always love adult characters subplots in shonen manga , they stand out when they're actually well written beyond the magic battles and laser beams
Higuruma and endeavor subplots were my favorites in their respective series
His chapters were always the best in the whole arc , everything is nuanced and perfectly sculptured
My favorite moment when he started the fight with yuji while telling him it feels good to kill people who annoy him but end it with confessing the truth , that killing the judges felt awful
Higaruma's impact on me was unexpected. I was a massive JJK when he was introduced to me, but, uniquely, I am also a law student. Seeing a lawyer in shonnen is something incredibly rare but very satisfying to encounter.
Higuruma is a genius, I personally think that he has the potential in the whole series
If you really think about it, Higuruma is a direct rebuttal to Gojo and Sukuna's internal logic surrounding power and strength. Those with might make right. Higuruma is a stoic but more importantly he was simply a human before the culling games. He had no innate talents like the Six Eyes and has the least experience amongst everyone. Higuruma even says to Yuji in their first encounter that he finds human flaws worth protecting. Indeed, his observation on proper governance and mechanisms to protect society from itself as a holistic body contradicts Sukuna's hedonism, individualism, and philosophy on radical self-improvement against near fatal challenges, at the cost of isolating yourself atop an ivory tower from humanity. Sukuna is a cannibal; he is an epicurean who simply wants to taste the strongest the world can offer him. He is not bound by personal reservations. Their personalities clash so completely that it even impressed Sukuna that a modern sorcerer could not only accomplish what he could in such a short amount of time but also stick to his personal moral codes. In fact, Sukuna is often fascinated with what compels the strong to reach greater heights: namely, through their own personal belief systems or ideology.
It's interesting to see sukuna being impressed with different characters. Sukuna was impressed by gojo because he and sukuna were almost the same. Both stand at the top and both are alone the only difference is gojo clings to humanity while sukuna doesn't, it impressed him to see someone like gojo nearly kill him multiple times. Sukuna was impressed by higuruma because of how higuruma thinks, the fact that a lawyer that is fighting for someone else nearly kills him. Sukuna was impressed by maki because of how different they are physically, sukuna was the top of jujutsu while maki was the height of humanity. Sukuna was impressed by yuta because he didn't expect someone like yuta could violate gojo's body like that just to kill sukuna, the act of desperation and becoming a monster impressed him.
Higuruma's bathtub scene is iconic. Great spot on the play on words with his name and the word cog. Another great video and analysis
Higuruma had such an impact in such a small time and can definitely see him as a future jujutsu teacher or something like that in the future if it works out for him plz Gege not him broh.

Higuruma is definitely one of my favorite characters. Having his cursed technique and domain based on a court of law is pretty unique and for a newer character he really stands out because of it. He also knew that he stood no chance against sukuna but still put himself out there for a chance of getting in a hit with the executioner’s sword. What a legend through and through

**the executioner's sword did nothing; the only time it touched sukuna, it was a fake-out (a cheap one too) and then it crumbled (even though curses generally stronger after death, acc to the chapter prior)

Characters like Higuruma showcase that it doesn’t matter how long a character appears on screen. It’s what the author does with them in that time that truly matters. Akutami is a genius fr 📿🙏🗿
The title is a bit of a stretch, wouldn't you say? He is by no means underrated. You could probably give that title to someone like Reggie, Uro, or Dagon. Not someone who the fanbase universally recognizes as one of the best characters Gege has written.
Definitely not universally recognized as one of Gege's best characters lol. The title is definitely overstated though, I should change it to something more tame
@@R7dman Oh? I've seen nothing but praise for him in the fandom. His fight and introduction being considered one of the best bits of the Culling Games even when the arc was being read week to week.
Another detail about his death that I really loved was that he looked Yuji in the eyes in his final moments, and I think that that was made his death my favorite in the series so far.

I love your commentary on these JJK videos, especially character analysis. Higuruma is by far one of my favorite characters in the whole series despite the minimalist storytelling about him. Such an objective view on a subjective story ethos.
I love his fight with sukuna. It showed who he was, he wasnt a lawyer trapped by an unforgiving society. He was a man, who defended his client to the end, he gave it his best shot and was the 2nd person to almost put the devil on death's door. He fought to defend someone.

ok so on the topic of talent vs hard work, I'm always reminded of Michael Phelps. he's the most decorated Olympian of all time that's no small feat. He obviously worked ridiculously hard, BUT he also has some things going for him, He has an abnormally large lung capacity, abnormally large hands and feet, and a genetic condition that causes him to get less exhausted than others. Did he have to work hard no doubt in my mind, but it seems like he was just born to be a swimmer.

One of the manga panels in this video i remember, is the panel with higaruma saying "i could never leave stuff alone, even as a kid". I'm a kid myself, so i can't speak gor whoever i will be when I'm older, but throughout my life, ive always been unable to-- well leave anything alone. Even recently, I've gotten in some drama at school that i haven't directly said to the main person involved. It was all because of me refusing to let ome person keep my friend suffering forever. Even now. I'm constantly punished for my choice, but I still refuse to let my friend go. I feel powerless to help,but I've continued to try whatever i can.

I didn't care about Gojo till he fought Sukuna and I had to meet his Fandom. Hate Gojo now. Spent so much time explaining that this isn't Jojo's where any ability can counter another, and that ~*some people*~ are born with broken, over powered, out of universe, abilities and no amount of planning or work outside of just being lucky and stronger will beat it.
Not happy with how Gojo's story went and how that was handled with power escalation, and now I'm just reading it wondering if it'll end on a believable outcome.

Your first 36 sec is how i feel about the series. This isn’t a manga you should judge from its week to week ify week drop. This has to be absorbed after its completion.
