These two were top class asshats. They said what they were paid to. This movie was hilarious. Look up the comic strip presents, Coltrane was in a bunch. Peter Richardson, the guy who played bish in this wrote and directed a lot of them. Very funny stuff.
Wikipedia calls it the The Pope Must Die while IMDB calls it The Pope Must Diet. I only remember it because of the controversy over the title. The premise sounds funny and the scenes didn't look that bad here. Neither the reviews nor the box office were good on this one though.
I LOVE this movie. The Director plays the Pope's security guard. You add that to the Superior who tells "Pope Dave" that he will come looking for him if anything bad happens, plus the new Pope overturning the tables at the Vatican bank, and the Lord literally taking a hand in the Sistine Chapel struggle tells me that this is a sincere film by sincere and progressive Catholics. (Watch the nun with the glass of milk. It's not available in the 1992 Director's cut now on youtube-but she originally ended up as the new Pope) th-cam.com/video/WmdqUjsflm4/w-d-xo.html

Not even the pope can absolve this one.
