It would be a pretty good race. The stage 2+ 540i is just slightly slower top end but 0-60 there wouldn't be much in it.
Mo genuinely seems to be a nice guy and definitely knows his stuff. What an utter beast but those 520d badges would be too tempting to cause a few traffic light heartbrakes😂

I had one running 500 and they are amazing. This was a sleeper unknown weapon until now ! Its has now been baited out ! P.S - It does have 100% Launch Control from Stock and you can also activate it via XHP also. The ultimate all rounder B58 masterpiece.
I was just going to say this! My B58 had it too; traction mode, DSC off, manual. Sometimes I ‘lost’ it, but I’m pretty sure it’s there.
I'm running a staged 2 tuned 440i also with XHP stage 3 - sounds exactly the same under acceleration! The B58 engine gives you peace of mind knowing it can handle all the power. With MPPSK it's the perfect balance between sensible family car and fun
The B58 is the peak of petrol engine design.

You must be new to cars.
The S55 has a few common problems.
Crank Hub
Valve Cover & Valve Cover Gasket Leaks
Oil Pan Gasket Leaks
Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leaks
The B58 has ZERO common problems, and only a tiny number of coolant leak issues.
The N55 in my OG M2 is more reliable than the S55.
The B58 is the best engine BMW have ever made.
@@DjNikGnashers I must be new? I have a 10 car collection and daily an F80, I have had a B58 engine too but after a crankhub and charge pipes upgrade the S55 you can't compare it. M car is always better

You said the S55 was the most reliable BMW engine, or at least, more reliable that the B58, and that isn't true.
You have just said yourself, that you need to upgrade parts on the S55 to make it more reliable !!!
I worked in the motor trade for many years, in parts, so I probably know a lot more than you do about what is reliable or not. I recently changed career less than a year ago.
You cannot compare a modified engine to a standard one, because if you are going to change parts on the S55, then for a fair comparison you need to also change parts on the B58 and THEN compare.
The B58 does not have ANY common problems, ZERO, NONE.
It is also very tuneable, with many cars running over 600bhp reliably with very simple bolt on mods, and some running over 1000bhp.
I owned an M140i which I took from standard, to 455bhp/634nm, and the engine was fabulous, and 100% rock solid reliable.
I now own an OG M2, and yes I agree, on every other aspect the M2 is much better than the M140i, damping, ride, cornering, steering, etc, I even like the DCT over the ZF8 HP50 'box, but the engine is the one thing I miss. The B58 was the better engine, and the N55 is not as good.
I know what you're going to say 'oh but it hasn't got an 'S' engine designation so it's not a proper M engine blah blah' it doesn't matter. An engine is an engine, and comparisons are made based on performance, reliability, and efficiency, not between the model numbers.

Crazy that these and M140i/M240is are listed for more or less the same money here in South Africa. You're getting a lot more car for the money here.

M5 has the correct setup ie subframe chassis suspension etc to handle the power better all the little things make a big difference unless you only drive in a straight line of course

the g30 540i rwd weighs less than the g42 m240i.The xdrive is about the same weight as the g42 m240i.
Mad that the big 5 with all that refinement is the same weight as a little 2er!

@@Matthew-jn7ss I’m in the US so the tax shit you’re talking about doesn’t apply to me. They’re both 5-Series BMWs, the running costs are gonna be damn near the same whether it’s a 540 or an M5. No point in buying a 540 and spending thousands tuning the fuck out it just to get it barely above the specs of a stock M5 lol. Just get an M5.

Gotta love a sleeper. Especially when it could surely give a standard M5 a good run for it's pocket money. Nicely executed. An intercooler & bigger injectors would bring health gains and lunch the gearbox. Best leave it as is 🙂

Goes decent, but like all car tiers, the lower the car the more you need to mod to get the same performance as the tier above.
The B58 is an awesome power plant, but adding meth to almost compete with an M5 seems like a lot of hassle.
A BM3 stage 1 (98 Oct) OTS M550ix is quicker than this, and that's slower than an M5. And the M550 sound better 🙂
My 2018 G30 540iX has Launch Control from stock. Now running Stage 2 + xHP Stage 3 and Launch Control 0-100 km/h in 3,6s.

Try the hybrid version tuned its a proper sleeper. My 530e pulls 398bhp and 666nm imagine the b58 engine

Great to see someone else pushing the 540i platform, B58+xdrive is a perfect combination. I've a similar setup in my 540i running ethanol maps. Any Dragy numbers in better conditions? Looking forward to he next round of mods on this for some inspiration!

I’d rather get the m550i you’ve got the same engine as the m5. Still a very nice car and alternative to m5 if you can’t afford one.

@@mogulme6190 the 540i has the b58 and the m550i has the de tuned version of the m5 engine and it’s more driver focused out the two hence the name m550i.
M550 does not have a detuned M5 motor

Trust me get the F90 M5. On Stage 2 E50 tune my M5 does a 0-60 in 2.4 seconds. 60-130mph in 5.3. Quarter mile in 9.65 seconds.

The new supra is equipped with B58tu engine , not s58. S58 is exclusively used in X3/X4m and M3/M4
