I loved how they nailed Tobey and Andrew's different interpretations of Peter Parker. Tobey played it stiff and socially awkward, so for me, it naturally masks the fact that he was comped in for most of his scenes. In contrast, Andrew played a more tactile Peter, always moving around and touching stuff. Seeing him get turned around and bumping into things in the school science lab, while Tobey was more straightlaced and bemused by the whole situation, rang so true for me.
Tobey Maguire was the Spider-Man who was an experienced mentor and had been through the ringer, Andrew Garfield was the Spider-Man who was broken and disliked by many but finally got his praise from us, the audience and not letting the same thing happen again to MJ… but Tom Holland is the Spider-Boy who finally became his own Spider-Man who’s accepted his responsibility and no longer needs the training wheels for his metaphorical bike.
2:36 That scene with Peter watching Jameson’s rant about him after May’s death was such a huge tragic moment and gave me flashbacks to that exact sequence from the Spider-Man No More comic.
I'm just grateful Spider-Man has finally return to character compared to the last three movies he was in. We've finally got the sympathetic, bad luck and bad tempered Peter Parker! I feel that No Way Home was the only movie along with Civil War and Homecoming in the MCU that got Peter and Spider-Man totally correct!! Apart from the mentions of Uncle Ben, but to be honest, I'm not even surprised anymore.
I always defended Tom Holland's Spiderman seeing his character development was meant to feel slow, and the movie's ending confirmed it as this trilogy was basically his origin story
Yeah it’s exactly like the comics, nothing too big happens in high school (other than Ben’s death of course) and the serious stuff happens as he goes off to college and becomes independent.

@@commanderspyder5432 i think this is very clever, because this iteration is adapted to the long story format of the MCU. All big characters is in the MCU have long and slow developments. Iron Man only stops being selfish at IM3, after The Avengers and anxiety crisis and he still learning after that on Age of Ultron and Civil War with both, more Infinity War serving as a backdoor trilogy. So, he's had been growing for eight movies before the snap. Sam Wilson is finally getting this Captain America movie almost ten years after his debout and Hulk is maybe finally getting his own movie. What make the BIG sagas great is the amount of history thats encapsulated on these tonal shifts. Thats why Gwen Stacys death is so iconic and why people hate One More Day (wich this movie basically fixed). There's a rumour about Tom Hollands Peter have a plan for a trilogy of trilogies with nine solo movies. That would be insane. We could finally watch an iteration of Peter that actually go through college and full adulthood, and become more and more experience, even reunited with MJ some years after the spell (as it happens in the comics), we can get the real Peter Parker drama with all the things that as only scrached by the previous iterations with Peter even dying as a hero and leaving the room for Miles Morales. Would totally make sense once Sony needs to make Spider man movies every five years at least, and the MCU is only getting bigger and bigger. Even in the comics is dificut to watch Peter grown because some editor always make some shit to reset him. But know we have that chance in live action and i'm 100% on it. I even hope the new trilogy is named "the Spetacular Spiderman" and maybe the 3th trilogy is the Superior Spider Man.
Because this is probably the only channel that actually read the whole Stan Lee run and tried to understand what Stan wanted to accomplish with his story without getting affected by other things. But instead of reading the original material a big majority of people that express opinion watched movies, cartoons, maybe read some of that comics then mixed them and created an idea of what Spiderman "should be"

Aunt May's death seems to symbolically be a combination of Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy. When she dies, she passes the message of responsibility, focusing his motivations from that of living up to the Avengers to just helping people in need (Like versions of Ben). And she is also directly killed by Green Goblin due to her connection to Peter (Like Gwen). Ben died because Peter did nothing, Gwen died even though he did everything, and May died because of a bit of both. Gwen Stacy's death is a pivotal moment for Spider-man because Peter used all his power to save her, and it wasn't enough. Having Aunt May be that death on top of giving him one last bit of advice to help him come back to his roots is a smart choice (And because Peter said "yeah, I know" to the great power motto, it implies that this is something Ben used to say, especially since it doesn't sound like a natural sentence that also doesn't sound like anything this version of Aunt May would say).
It could be more that is on the style of the original Stan Lee and Ditko era, where Peter because of his selfishness and inaction allow for the criminal to kill Uncle Ben teaching him that lesson... Which would reinforce certain acting choice and words that you can see on Homecoming of Uncle Ben dying and Peter before ignoring or being selfish stops himself thinking i can't let another Uncle Ben happen.
Peter could've said "yeah, I know," because he already reiterated his own version of the line in Captain America: Civil War. He told Tony, "Look, when you can do the things I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you." I think this was also brilliant because it demonstrated that the "responsibility" lesson was Peter's own. Edit: Minor wording changes.
Yes! I was waiting for this review without keep saying this movie fix MCU's Spidey, CAUSE IT WAS NOT BROKEN TO BEGIN WITH. I loved NWH so much, it felt like my little child self scared of Raimi's Venom, my slightly older child who got so excited watching TASM in theathers, and my teenage self who went to the movies so happy to watch Tom Holland be the Spider-man of my generation, starting highschool and all, they all came together.

@@nathanmason7044 absolutely. Wouldn't have the same impact if we just thrusted into his life being so down and the stakes being so high. Having his relationships build and the stakes grow is what made this so satisfying to watch as story even moreso than it being a celebration.
This is one heavy emotional movie. Aunt May bet on love like Ratcatcher 2 but lost the bet. Some critics ridicule her naivety but I believe this is where it shines. She lost the bet and cost her life but unlike some spiteful gamblers salty and complain hindsight, she accepted the consequences and told Peter to continue the right thing. Judging from Peters' interaction of 'great power' talk I sensed that MCU Uncle Ben didn't utter that famous line but Aunt May, and my my she has a heavier and deeper layer than Raimi's Uncle Ben! Aunt May is MCU Peter's aunt, mother, elder sister, BFF all in one. Heroes kick ass; true heroes CURE ASS.
HiTop is weirdly dramatic. How often he says a movie buckbroke him or whatever. I've never had a movie hold me down, erode my virginity, and whisper hateful epithets in my ear, but apparently it keeps happening to HiTop.
HiTop isn't a bad guy...but he's incredibly annoying and has toxic attitudes that slip out from time to time. He has a huge "I'm such a passionate fan so I know everything" problem. He also has a way of being contrarian for the sake of it. 90% of the time if a hugely beloved film comes out, he'll make a "I didn't love" video.
The best thing about it: I went with someone who knows the MCU but somehow never managed to watch either of the previous spiderman and had barely a memory of the Toby McGuire ones with no knowledge whatsoever of the Garfield ones, and she enjoyed it too. Because it wasn't just fanservice, it was a truly solid story.
Aunt May filled the role of Uncle Ben in THIS trilogy because they don't want to be repetative yet have their own moment of it like other two franchises. So Uncle Ben is still important for MCU Peter, but they also have their Uncle Ben death scene without him. It's pretty clever. Also, Peter says "yeah, I know" when May says the great responsibility line and immediately looks at Tobey when he mentions Ben, so yeah his impact is still there. Finally someone who gets it! But I am weirded by why they didn't really focus enough on the fact that she was buried next to uncle ben like they didn't have the camera pan out from her name on the tombstone to reveal that he was buried next to her. You have to actually pay attention when Peter is standing there to see it.

One thing that i saw the movie and remembered you was because, in one of your videos, you said that FFH showed Peter truly letting go of Stark, on the path to become his own hero, and that he would never be a plot point again, which was very true in NWH

It's funny how this Spider-Man started off with the most support and in the end he's left with almost none he's really just by himself not alone kind of sad.
Considering the possibility of the new trilogy adapt the Stan Lee/John Romita run (plus the Matt Murdock cameo), something I hope to see in the next spider man movie is a adaptation of the Ancient Tablet arc, with Spider man having to deal with a gang war between Kingpin (who could be a recurring antagonist during the whole trilogy, just like in Romita run) and Silvermane (he could be the main villain), both sides trying to obtain the Ancient Tablet, a invention created by the Eternals that contains a formula that can rejuvenate anyone, something that Silvermane wants so he can return to be young and reclaim his control of New York's underworld. This would not only allow the MCU spider man movies to focus more on the crime drama (something they didn't do after homecoming) but they could also create a good contrast between Spider man and Silvermane arcs: While Peter is learning to adapt to his new status quo after the events of NWH and accept the changes in his personal life while Silvermane would be refusing to accept his own mortality and trying to reclaim a past long gone. Also, considering the mid credit scene, I have a theory they gonna adapt the Black Suit arc, but, unlike Spider man 3, Peter is going to have the black during most of the trilogy, with the symbiote influence representing his anger and the hot temper he had during this phase in the comics, making the moment where he breaks free from the alien (which could happen in the end second or third movie) a symbol of Peter finally letting go of his rage and finding a balance in his emotions.
Yes! I've been waiting for you to review No Way Home. Honestly your videos about Spiderman really opened my eyes into how the character is and supposed to be. I honestly feel the character interactions and arcs were great in this film. The future for MCU Spiderman looks brighter then ever before as we now enter the college years
You really nailed it calling this movie smartly prioritized. Every aspect of it feels so practically thought out to capitalize as much as possible on how it can advance Peter’s character.
The other thing about the No Way Home title is that, intentional or not, the film pretty perfectly encapsulates the saying of "You can never go home again" and what that specifically means for Peter now by the movie's end.
May actually doesn’t serve the role of Ben. Sure she gave Peter the Speech but Peter never learns from speeches, he learns from what the World does to/teaches him. Uncle Ben dies as a result of Peter’s selfishness which teaches Peter “with great power there must also come great responsibility”, which is what Peter comes to on his own in his 616 origin where Ben never gave him the speech. But now, May doesn’t die as a result of Peter’s selfishness, May dies as a result of Peter’s SELFLESSNESS! What the World is teaching Peter with May’s death is actually the Goblin’s lesson, “No good deed goes unpunished”. Despite Peter doing the right thing this time the World still takes away what he loves. May’s speech about great power coming with great responsibility wasn’t teaching Peter anything new, it was anchoring him to his morals in a dark moment that was about to become so much darker. Before the world taught Peter that selfishness invites tragedy and Peter learned from the World and changed for the better to become a source for good and to now act out of Selflessness. But now the World is teaching Peter that his Selflessness will cause him pain and misery as well. But this time instead of learning and changing his ways because of the world, May helps anchor Peter to not let himself be corrupted and become a monster. Peter at the end knows that he must be and stay good even in a world that would foster the contrary.
I agree that loneliness will be the focus of the next film and I think we'll see the Symbiote serve as the foil of the next installment. Peter will realize that there are worse things than being alone, and that losing one's self is one of those things. Appreciate your channel, dude!
YES , YES, _YES!_ I live for "inner conflicts" type of storyline, and this will jive perfectly with the whole identity crisis thing too. Peter Parker is "inexistent" while Spider-Man is still a famous/celebrated/reviled figure to the world. The dissonance between those two identities and the mental conflict that could ensued will mixe nicely with the loss of self theme. Oh shit, I'm already excited for Spider-Man 4 and I don't even know _when_ it's showing!
I've always liked and defended this Spider-Man because I thought the development was meant to be slower. Not only could I tell that within the growing stakes of the films, but how the soundtrack grew grander with them. This trilogy was meant to be an origin story highlighting three different points of what it means to be a hero in this context. Homecoming was meant to be Peter desperately wanting to be part of the Avengers but then he realises what that actually means, from both being Spider-Man and how he wouldn't really have anything else to do, and how his personal life and growing up would change forever, something he doesn't want. After that reality sets in a bit more from Infinity War and Endgame, Far From Home contrasts Homecoming and Peter now wants to stay as Peter Parker instead of stepping up to be Spider-Man, or to go as high to be the next Iron Man like hero, in terms of being the one to take the large risks. Both of these films show Peter thinking that he can balance his two different lives at once, but due to him not being careful enough, Mysterio wins and Peter's anonymity is gone. What was once a looming threat to him is now a harsh reality, not only affecting him (even more since Mysterio made him look like a murderer, rather than Peter revealing himself) but also everyone around him, everyone he wanted to keep safe. No Way Home shows him the disadvantages to being Spider-Man, and when he tries to hide from the consequences, they only intensify. He tries to keep his morals, but once people begin threatening those that he loves, the temper begins to kick in when he can't handle it. It's hinted at first when he fights Doc Ock, when MJ gets threatened. Even though Octavius was actually talking about Mary-Jane, Tom's Peter would still interpret this as a threat against his girlfriend. When this happens, he immediately begins using the Iron Spider arms and his tone audibly becomes more threatening, prioritising the fight against Doc Ock rather than saving the MIT person briefly. The temper is seen in full force when he fights Goblin. The first time, he's viciously trying to defend May after Goblin betrays him and the second time is after he's out for revenge for killing May as well as being the reason that he couldn't save Ned or MJ. While I would have liked that they did more with this version of Aunt May, I do still really like what's presented with her character. The word 'Home' is a key part in all three titles and I think that while they can be interpreted as Peter's way of life and/or people around him, I think it also refers to May. In Homecoming, when he loses the Stark Suit and needs help after he has a date for Homecoming and has no idea what to do, he goes home to May, who can give him a way to deal with it. In Far From Home, Tony's dead, no other Avengers are seemingly around, he's far from home by literally being in a different continent, but is also far from May. While she's only a phone call away, the threats he's facing are becoming bigger and to a point where she can't give much advice. She was able to give advice on smaller crime in their area, like for the deleted scene, and his plan for MJ, which was more important to him at the time and what he wanted to focus on (and he didn't want to fight the Elementals). No Way Home had May giving more advice to Peter and being who he follows. When she dies, everything changes for him and he's got no way home in that sense. Once things spiral even more out of control after that, he's genuinely got no way home. He ends this film alone, with only himself and being Spider-Man.

I'm so excited for when they reintroduce Norman Osborn in the MCU again. Can you imagine the look on Peter's face when he finally meets his own version of Norman? The bad blood is already there and Norman isn't even the Goblin yet.
I suspected walking out of this film that Leo was going to love it, specifically because of how well it transitioned from the charming, sitcom-like tone of the first two Home films to the darker, more intense tone of classic comics like the original appearances of Doc Ock or the Sinister Six. I've seen reviews that criticize that change in tone, and I really don't get it; Spider-Man is charming when things are good, sure, but one of the most relatable things about him is how he reacts when things go bad. He hurts, hates and lashes out like all of us do. That NWH managed to capture that catharsis without becoming boring or overly dour while ALSO sincerely celebrating the other two Spider-Men we've come to love was low-key revolutionary imo---for a big-budget Disney-affiliated tentpole, anyway. The critics can bash intertextuality all they want, but as long as all of our works of art continue to exist in the same cultural landscape, I think meta commentary will continue to have an indispensable value all its own.

One of the things that struck me the most about the film is how much it seems that Andrew loves playing the role of Spider-man. He gives such a spirited performance, as he did in the two Webb films, but this time he happens to be starring in a film that does the character of Spider-man and his world so much more justice. It was a treat, and an emotional one at that, to see him get another shot at bringing his Peter to life. A second chance! Another thing that caught me off guard is just how dark this film is. Between Peter having to go rogue on Dr Strange in a desperate attempt to save the villains instead of killing them, the dire circumstances Peter is thrust into at the start of the film, the haunting nature of the ending where Peter literally has no one left in his life, to Norman beating the absolute piss out him before killing May, I just don’t think I had expected the MCU and Tom Holland’s Spidey to ever really go to these depths. Outside of the famous car scene from Homecoming, to some degree I feel like I’ve never quiiiiite bought into the stakes that MCU Spidey has been thrown up against. A big surprise for me, and something that definitely makes me excited for the future of this Spider-Man!
This movie absolutely wrecked me, I was excited to see the other Spidermans it was kinda like into the spiderverse again but also not. I loved the idea of curing villans, but I was still wrecked in the end. But that's not bad, because in reality the good guys don't always get the good ending and the bad guys don't always lose. Reminds me of the Draken/Neir game franchise, but I don't expect anyone here to know what I'm talking about. ;)
i liked the fact that these villains from the past films were humanized a bit more and they at least were given a sense of redemption as i remembered that they didn't start out as bad guys but good-hearted people who got lost.
Only bad guy that has won in MCU Spider-Man is Mysterio. He managed to completely ruin Peter's life, none of NWH would have happened if he didn't reveal his identity. And a good portion of the public still support him
I didn't buy into the marketing of the film either, so I didn't know what to expect, I wasn't even planning to go but the tickets were s gift, so I went and I was so pleasantly surprised, I had a great time! I also cried a couple of times 😂
I really hope Spider-Man is staying in the MCU for a long time, this movie proved that after tony and cap died , Peter is the most qualified to be the new face of the MCU spider-man has always been the most popular marvel character he can definitely shoulder the MCU , after losing Nat , Tony and Steve I'm mainly here for peter and Wanda , sure i like Thor , guardians , strange ...but they can't keep people invested for long , Spidey can so Sony please let us have good things

The first movie in a while that really perfectly met my expectations. I especially loved the ending of him sacrificing everything to fix the universe. You really get that bittersweet closure with Ned and MJ.
@@kacpernowak1535 No they weren't. Electro was not only a variant of the one from amazing spider-man 2, the lizard was a variant from a third version of that movie. As indicated by the dialogue. Dr. Octavius was alive and his inhibitor chip was still broke. Neither is the case at the end of Spider-man 2.
I've been critising Tom's Spider-Man films for years but now there's no question, he IS SPIDER-MAN Also the film is so much better paced, written, directed, shot.... Everything is improved. It feels like a Spider-Man movie and less of an MCU movie. Which the other two films did not
I think this is how MCU Spider-Man 4 should go: Spider-Man’s life: The kingpin of crime (or hammerhead or tombstone) is reshaping the criminal underworld of New York City (kind of like how he tried in the PlayStation game Spider-Man: Miles Morales). He is organizing and initiating a lot of crimes in NY and he is expanding his empire. A new start up company called Oscorp is suspiciously growing too fast and started getting contracts with the government (they might bring war machine as a cameo in telling the backstory of Oscorp). Oscorp specializes of course in Military research. With all that going on, Kingpin runs into some problems; some of his planned crimes to expand his criminal underworld gets foiled by none other than Spider-Man. At first, Kingpin doesn’t give attention to the wall-crawler. However, as time passes, Spider-Man foils more and more of Kingpin’s crime and leads to more and more arrests of his men. Spider-Man achieves this because he got way better at interrogating criminals and extracting from them valuable information to stop parallel Kingpin crimes. Spider-Man got way better at this part of the job (referencing Spider-Man homecoming) without the use of an enhanced interrogation mode 😂 (or maybe developing his own one). Peter Parker’s Life: Peter got a 50% scholarship for Empire State and he’s been working as a Pizza delivery Guy (or something of that sorts). And he is struggling in paying the rent and he doesn’t know how he’ll pay for the rest of the tuition in college. Peter was noticing for a while how crappy images taken of him as Spider-Man are being placed in the Bugle’s web. Peter had this great idea of taking pictures of himself swinging and fighting crime and selling them to JJJ as a free lancing photographer; he quickly finished a Free online course in photography and bought himself the best Camera he could afford. Peter really liked photography, and Peter had his first paycheck as a free lancing photographer for the bugle and cashed it in on the same day. He hurried to the landlord to pay his overdue rent, and was shocked to see his apartment being evicted by workers. Thankfully, the landlord made everyone get Peter’s stuff and furniture back to the apartment since Peter payed the rent with the money he’s just made. However, the eviction process damaged some of Peter’s equipment. At night, Peter feels grief…..and loneliness. He remembers Aunt May. And Ned and MJ, thinking about how their life is at MIT. He has a photo of Aunt May which he looks at. He can’t sleep, even though he knows he has a lecture tomorrow very early in the morning, he wears the suit and swings in the city for a while to take his mind of things…..and…….and he feels closest to Aunt May when he’s in the Spider-Man suit. Spider-Man’s Life: Spider-Man is really not making life easy for the kingpin, and he’s costing him a lot of business. Those problems would disappear if simply Spider-Man disappears. He tried to figure out his identity but always fails. Spidey’s Peter tingle always aware him when he’s being tracked or followed. The kingpin sets up a bounty for Spider-Man in the criminal underworld and calls a friend of his to a meeting. Norman Osborne walks into Fisk’s room. Turns out Oscorp’s exponential growth was because Kingpin is funding a lot of money (through donations maybe and stuff), in return for Oscorp giving Kingpin weapons and materials. Kingpin has been overly generous to Oscorp and he now expects a favor from Norman. He’s asking Norman if any of his research could be used to create essentially a couple of Supervillains to handle Spider-Man. Norman says he has ideas, but they’re very expensive to execute and he’s company is not in a position to handle such expenses. Wilson informs him as long as he is funding him, he doesn’t have to worry about the company. The kingpin sends word out in the street for volunteers. 2 people show up; Mac Gargan (with a personal vendetta against Spider-Man carried all the way back from homecoming) and Aleksei Sytsevich (he could be a guy that spidey had him arrested time and time again). They essentially become Scorpion and Rhino, respectively. In parallel with all this, Spider-Man’s relationship with the law enforcement isn’t very hot either. Because an imposter dressed up as Spider-Man keeps appearing making crimes. This could be later revealed to be none other than Quentin Beck…..the menacing mysterio. Peter Parker’s Life: Peter woke up very late. He was swinging for a really long time last night before finally getting back to the apartment super tired that he slept with the Spider-Man outfit still on. He’s gonna be late for the lecture. No time for subway, he swings as fast as he could with the bag pack on him. He landed in an alley near the campus, and he started wearing the clothes on top of his costume. He stuffed his Spider gloves and web shooters in the bag, but it was really difficult to fit the spider boots in there. He accidentally ruptured one of the spider boots while trying to shove it in the bag……….he needs a bigger bag, Peter thought. At University, Peter simply goes to his lectures and gets back home. He doesn’t care about any extracurricular activities or student unions or anything like that. All he wants from that place is just to earn good grades and get a degree. And he’s certainly not interested in making friends. He’s viewed by the other students as a lonely guy that no one really talks to. Peter doesn’t hang out with anyone at all. However, an old female Professor named Anne Watson, who has a very friendly personality, has taken real interest in Peter’s intellect and made peter intern at her lab. Peter has been really enthusiastic about this and he loves spending time learning and contributing at her lab. Also at the University, in a course, Peter scored 100% in the first midterm and in all assignments and quizzes of the course. At the end of a class, the course instructor asks Peter if he could tutor one on one with one of the students (from another section) from the course. Peter replies he’s kinda busy and the professor replies that Peter would get paid hourly for this. The money in this is really low but Peter could really use any money he could get his hands on, so Peter agrees. Peter is introduced by the Professor to Gwen Stacy stating that he’ll tutor her weekly. Gwen Stacy is a beautiful young woman with long blonde hair. The Professor continued that Gwen’s a very bright student but she simply needs help and guidance with this course. Back at Professor Watson’s lab, Peter meets a new intern there named Harry Osborne. The name ‘Osborne’ shakes Peter hard. With time they kinda bond over science and lab stuff, but they never really get best friends or anything (or even friends), but he does remind Peter a little with the relationship he had with Ned Leeds; how they used to talk about science stuff. Peter finds when he tutors Gwen that she’s a real fun person to be around. She’s also extremely smart and interning at a lab different from Peter’s. She simply got bad grades in this course because she is interested in other courses and she feels this one is a waste. But she began to love it actually with Peter’s way of tutoring and enthusiasm. Peter’s ways makes Gwen laugh and enjoy her time with him. And without Peter realizing it,spending time with her takes his mind of his grief and makes him laugh. We want to make this a really smooth falling in love experience with Peter. Peter doesn’t think about Gwen, he doesn’t care about her, and he’s certainly not thinking about any relationship. He simply enjoys his time tutoring her. Gwen on the other hand thinks about Peter a lot. And actively looks forward to the tutor time. He’s the first boy she met that she started having those feelings toward. He makes her feel….new and different. One time while tutoring her, Peter received a police distress message, he told her that he’s so sorry and that he has to go. Gwen get’s shocked and holds his forearm, demanding gently to tell her what’s going. Peter says he really has to go and he’ll tell her next time.
so many of the “criticisms” against this iteration of the character are nitpicks or inaccuracies to sam raimis take on spiderman tone, genre, story wise, etc. for so many years its been clear how biased some these opinions have been completely dismissing the goals of this spiderman as a more close high school ditko adaptation of the character in personality and context
And, even if you don’t use any of the Steve ditko’s stuff, it’s that they’re not looking at this version of Peter outside their old lense. The glasses are great, but it’s so old now, that it obscures the image.
See nah. Look i get the whole message and that "its been done before lets do something new". But some fans just like comic accuracy. Yes this film can relate to the classic amazing fantasy "sitcom" run but it also differs alottt. (And b4 you get any ideas i am not a tobey worshiper, i belive he is someone to be respected because he was one of the first but im team andrew for most accurate and best Spider-Man. My problem with tom and maybe other can understand or relate. Is that he is so different and everything about his films are different from the source. Like aunt may dieing and saying those words, when really not even ben said those words it was just something we adapted too. Or the fake mj, they try to cover it up by saying its Michelle but then slap her last name with watson. With the whole iron man being heavy influenced on his origin. It can get annoying on how its so different. If you were to say hes your favorite Spider-Man thats whatever its your opinion. But if someonwme were to say hes the best Spider-Man that rubs me the wrong way, because how can you be the best if you are so different from the source material. You can find common a shareble qualities sure, but you also gotta weigh in the differences. So to me hes too different from the classic spidey(which is in no way tobey) im talkn amazing fantasy 1964. Ig thats why i always appreciated andrew so much because he knew the source material and really got in to it. And really brought the real spidey to the big screen.
Also shout out to webb. Because even tho he got a lot of backlash for what happened in the films. He still brought out classic characteristics for alot of the characters and gave andrew a comic accurate persona to work with. #giveWebbhiscredit
I hate the fandom saying how Spider-Man should be- kick ass, independent, don't need to rely others, all those bullshit. They should just admit deep in their heart they ain't looking for a hero but a broken martyr to satisfy their sadistic urge.

What gives me absolute catharsis is how this film has opened the eyes of Tobey, Andrew, and especially Tom doubters. That each one of them IS Spider-Man, just ones at different stages of life. Whem i finished NWH i just thought "can't wait for Leo's new video". Watching the movie as a spider man fan after watching your analisys, that finally embodies in words what i always thougt about this character was a real satisfaction. I was thinking about the "Peter Parker diagram" about flirty trickster, bad Luck and Bad Temper, thinking about the representation of MJ as, finally a real force in Peter Parker's life, and the tonal shift you highlighted in the previous video about university Peter. I LOVED how JJJ was poltrayed, much better tham the Raimi movies (i think Defoe is more Green Goblim too). The even show him getting more and more popular as the movir progresses. Such a nice throwback when Peter (Tobey) meets Otto for the first time in Spider-Man 2 (2004), Otto says that *you’re brilliant but lazy* and Peter replies that *he’s trying to do better* and in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) when Otto asks how are you, he replies the same answer *trying to do better.* So good!
I wasn't sold on Jon Watts as the F4 director until I saw this movie. The fact it was so ambitious and pulled it off better than I expected with heavy moments feeling heavy and the light moments well spaced out to give the emotional moments meaning really made this my favorite Spider-Man movie. It good.
Best Spidey movie right alongside ITSV. While ITSV might, MIGHT be better, this is my personal favorite simply because I grew up with all 3. Tobey was the Spidey of my kid years, Andrew the Spidey of my early teens, and Tom my late teens and now adulthood. So seeing 3 eras of my life come together...fantastic. I am so excited for the next trilogy.
Dude when Daredevil showed up I was losing my mind I got so excited But yeah the movie basically confirmed to me at that point that Uncle Ben doesn’t exist in that universe because you would think when they both brought him up they would bring him up too
Aye I wasnt hyped for it becayse I thought it was just gonna be fan service and that. But fuck yes was it good, and much more than that. With each spidey and villain done pretty spot on. I leaned forward so much when Andrew Showed up, like bro, the catharsis I felt then. I was fully prepared for him not being in it, and then he goddamn was. Also almost cried when he got MJ, full of 'If you start crying so will I' moment

What is your take on the Ultimate universe (aka Brian Michael Bendis') run on Spider-Man? for me the MCU Spider-Man feels like it drew a great deal of inspiration from Miles Morales. there are obvious ones like Genke and his girlfriend's dad being a bad guy (who's vulture suit is a direct copy of Prowler's winged suit). The more I thought about it, the more I found that in the first two movies it felt more like a Miles Morales story than a Peter Parker story. Like they sort of blended the two characters together to make the Tom Holland Spider-Man.
I think we’ll get Black Cat on the next Spider-Man movie. Peter leaves his old life behind and embraces his new life as simply Spider-Man, only being Peter for classes and odd jobs for rent money. Then, Felicia comes into his life. She only cares about Spider-Man, not about Peter’s personal life and he loves it at first, because he wants the same thing. Then the story becomes about how meaningful true connections can be, or something. Throw in Kraven and the Venom Symbiote causing a ruckus, and you got about 2 hours and 15 minutes of good material.
You are so right! Though I am not sure about Kraven and Venom in one movie. I am more leaning having Venom in the next one (since they set him up already), and Kraven after that. Kraven could be the perfect initiator to change the view on Spider-man.
One thing I’ve always wanted in a Spider-Man movie is to see his adult life dealing with things like a job, rent, Spider-Man,etc. For it to really get into some of the things that make older Spider-Man relatable, I’m glad we’re going to get that In the future.

ever since I realized that the first enemy the avengers fought in the classic comics was Loki, I think you’re absolutely right with how they’ve approached spider-mans story beyond the mythology and truly understand the source material and the way they wanna bring these characters to life. some things may change but they make conscious decisions like having Loki be the villain in The Avengers and Peter struggling with responsibility with stories that don’t need uncle as he he already knows he has to do something when people are in trouble... because uncle Ben taught him that. the tragedy of uncle Ben is that he has to take that final lesson and responsibility and maneuver his own way into adulthood without uncle bens wisdom to guide him further. Uncle Ben isn’t a ghost looming around the corner for Peter.
I haven't watched the movie yet, but at this point, TH-cam titles alone have spammed me with so many spoilers that I feel like I've already watched it. So what the hell, I'll just watch this one
I wonder if MJ will still be a thing? Will we actually see a Mary Jane Watson? I haven't seen the movie nor been to a theatre but can no one know he's spiderman now? Another thing, we the new trilogy (confirmed? No clue), people are calling it a soft reboot. It’s not. Just because a part of his life has been erased does not mean the others have been. As in, Spider-Man is still remembered, and even then, his memories and everything he’s learnt is what will make him Spider-Man in the next trilogy. Each villains in each film taught him different things, vulture was the conflict to doing being a hero outside the suit, the second was learnt about deception and developed his spider sense, and green goblin taught him absolute fear, and obviously the whole thing NWH is about, second chances, sacrifices, and holding your morale ground.

I loved how they nailed Tobey and Andrew's different interpretations of Peter Parker. Tobey played it stiff and socially awkward, so for me, it naturally masks the fact that he was comped in for most of his scenes. In contrast, Andrew played a more tactile Peter, always moving around and touching stuff. Seeing him get turned around and bumping into things in the school science lab, while Tobey was more straightlaced and bemused by the whole situation, rang so true for me.
Yeah, those were excellent bits!
BTW, Andrew helping Tobey with his back pain was so hilariously.

Tobey Maguire was the Spider-Man who was an experienced mentor and had been through the ringer, Andrew Garfield was the Spider-Man who was broken and disliked by many but finally got his praise from us, the audience and not letting the same thing happen again to MJ… but Tom Holland is the Spider-Boy who finally became his own Spider-Man who’s accepted his responsibility and no longer needs the training wheels for his metaphorical bike.

I'm just grateful Spider-Man has finally return to character compared to the last three movies he was in. We've finally got the sympathetic, bad luck and bad tempered Peter Parker! I feel that No Way Home was the only movie along with Civil War and Homecoming in the MCU that got Peter and Spider-Man totally correct!! Apart from the mentions of Uncle Ben, but to be honest, I'm not even surprised anymore.

@@commanderspyder5432 i think this is very clever, because this iteration is adapted to the long story format of the MCU. All big characters is in the MCU have long and slow developments. Iron Man only stops being selfish at IM3, after The Avengers and anxiety crisis and he still learning after that on Age of Ultron and Civil War with both, more Infinity War serving as a backdoor trilogy. So, he's had been growing for eight movies before the snap. Sam Wilson is finally getting this Captain America movie almost ten years after his debout and Hulk is maybe finally getting his own movie. What make the BIG sagas great is the amount of history thats encapsulated on these tonal shifts. Thats why Gwen Stacys death is so iconic and why people hate One More Day (wich this movie basically fixed). There's a rumour about Tom Hollands Peter have a plan for a trilogy of trilogies with nine solo movies. That would be insane. We could finally watch an iteration of Peter that actually go through college and full adulthood, and become more and more experience, even reunited with MJ some years after the spell (as it happens in the comics), we can get the real Peter Parker drama with all the things that as only scrached by the previous iterations with Peter even dying as a hero and leaving the room for Miles Morales. Would totally make sense once Sony needs to make Spider man movies every five years at least, and the MCU is only getting bigger and bigger. Even in the comics is dificut to watch Peter grown because some editor always make some shit to reset him. But know we have that chance in live action and i'm 100% on it. I even hope the new trilogy is named "the Spetacular Spiderman" and maybe the 3th trilogy is the Superior Spider Man.

Implicitly Pretentious, CaptainMidnight and New Rockstars are the top 3 Marvel channels for me since they often go in depth with their analysis of these movies and what makes them good
Aunt May's death seems to symbolically be a combination of Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy. When she dies, she passes the message of responsibility, focusing his motivations from that of living up to the Avengers to just helping people in need (Like versions of Ben). And she is also directly killed by Green Goblin due to her connection to Peter (Like Gwen). Ben died because Peter did nothing, Gwen died even though he did everything, and May died because of a bit of both.
Gwen Stacy's death is a pivotal moment for Spider-man because Peter used all his power to save her, and it wasn't enough. Having Aunt May be that death on top of giving him one last bit of advice to help him come back to his roots is a smart choice (And because Peter said "yeah, I know" to the great power motto, it implies that this is something Ben used to say, especially since it doesn't sound like a natural sentence that also doesn't sound like anything this version of Aunt May would say).
It could be more that is on the style of the original Stan Lee and Ditko era, where Peter because of his selfishness and inaction allow for the criminal to kill Uncle Ben teaching him that lesson... Which would reinforce certain acting choice and words that you can see on Homecoming of Uncle Ben dying and Peter before ignoring or being selfish stops himself thinking i can't let another Uncle Ben happen.
Peter could've said "yeah, I know," because he already reiterated his own version of the line in Captain America: Civil War. He told Tony, "Look, when you can do the things I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you." I think this was also brilliant because it demonstrated that the "responsibility" lesson was Peter's own.

I loved NWH so much, it felt like my little child self scared of Raimi's Venom, my slightly older child who got so excited watching TASM in theathers, and my teenage self who went to the movies so happy to watch Tom Holland be the Spider-man of my generation, starting highschool and all, they all came together.

This is one heavy emotional movie. Aunt May bet on love like Ratcatcher 2 but lost the bet. Some critics ridicule her naivety but I believe this is where it shines.
She lost the bet and cost her life but unlike some spiteful gamblers salty and complain hindsight, she accepted the consequences and told Peter to continue the right thing.
Judging from Peters' interaction of 'great power' talk I sensed that MCU Uncle Ben didn't utter that famous line but Aunt May, and my my she has a heavier and deeper layer than Raimi's Uncle Ben! Aunt May is MCU Peter's aunt, mother, elder sister, BFF all in one.
Heroes kick ass; true heroes CURE ASS.
I'd like to think that in the end, because the villains were cured, she won. No kill heroes are the best heroes.

The best thing about it: I went with someone who knows the MCU but somehow never managed to watch either of the previous spiderman and had barely a memory of the Toby McGuire ones with no knowledge whatsoever of the Garfield ones, and she enjoyed it too. Because it wasn't just fanservice, it was a truly solid story.
I think it was too fast paced but besides that I liked it a lot
Aunt May filled the role of Uncle Ben in THIS trilogy because they don't want to be repetative yet have their own moment of it like other two franchises.
So Uncle Ben is still important for MCU Peter, but they also have their Uncle Ben death scene without him. It's pretty clever.
Also, Peter says "yeah, I know" when May says the great responsibility line and immediately looks at Tobey when he mentions Ben, so yeah his impact is still there.

But I am weirded by why they didn't really focus enough on the fact that she was buried next to uncle ben like they didn't have the camera pan out from her name on the tombstone to reveal that he was buried next to her. You have to actually pay attention when Peter is standing there to see it.

One thing that i saw the movie and remembered you was because, in one of your videos, you said that FFH showed Peter truly letting go of Stark, on the path to become his own hero, and that he would never be a plot point again, which was very true in NWH

It's funny how this Spider-Man started off with the most support and in the end he's left with almost none he's really just by himself not alone kind of sad.
Considering the possibility of the new trilogy adapt the Stan Lee/John Romita run (plus the Matt Murdock cameo), something I hope to see in the next spider man movie is a adaptation of the Ancient Tablet arc, with Spider man having to deal with a gang war between Kingpin (who could be a recurring antagonist during the whole trilogy, just like in Romita run) and Silvermane (he could be the main villain), both sides trying to obtain the Ancient Tablet, a invention created by the Eternals that contains a formula that can rejuvenate anyone, something that Silvermane wants so he can return to be young and reclaim his control of New York's underworld.
This would not only allow the MCU spider man movies to focus more on the crime drama (something they didn't do after homecoming) but they could also create a good contrast between Spider man and Silvermane arcs: While Peter is learning to adapt to his new status quo after the events of NWH and accept the changes in his personal life while Silvermane would be refusing to accept his own mortality and trying to reclaim a past long gone.
Also, considering the mid credit scene, I have a theory they gonna adapt the Black Suit arc, but, unlike Spider man 3, Peter is going to have the black during most of the trilogy, with the symbiote influence representing his anger and the hot temper he had during this phase in the comics, making the moment where he breaks free from the alien (which could happen in the end second or third movie) a symbol of Peter finally letting go of his rage and finding a balance in his emotions.
Yes! I've been waiting for you to review No Way Home. Honestly your videos about Spiderman really opened my eyes into how the character is and supposed to be. I honestly feel the character interactions and arcs were great in this film. The future for MCU Spiderman looks brighter then ever before as we now enter the college years
This is why I love your channel. You are a COMIC fan. The MCU Spider-Man haters probably never even touched a comic in their life.
You really nailed it calling this movie smartly prioritized. Every aspect of it feels so practically thought out to capitalize as much as possible on how it can advance Peter’s character.
The other thing about the No Way Home title is that, intentional or not, the film pretty perfectly encapsulates the saying of "You can never go home again" and what that specifically means for Peter now by the movie's end.
May actually doesn’t serve the role of Ben. Sure she gave Peter the Speech but Peter never learns from speeches, he learns from what the World does to/teaches him.
Uncle Ben dies as a result of Peter’s selfishness which teaches Peter “with great power there must also come great responsibility”, which is what Peter comes to on his own in his 616 origin where Ben never gave him the speech.
But now, May doesn’t die as a result of Peter’s selfishness, May dies as a result of Peter’s SELFLESSNESS!
What the World is teaching Peter with May’s death is actually the Goblin’s lesson, “No good deed goes unpunished”.
Despite Peter doing the right thing this time the World still takes away what he loves.
May’s speech about great power coming with great responsibility wasn’t teaching Peter anything new, it was anchoring him to his morals in a dark moment that was about to become so much darker.
Before the world taught Peter that selfishness invites tragedy and Peter learned from the World and changed for the better to become a source for good and to now act out of Selflessness. But now the World is teaching Peter that his Selflessness will cause him pain and misery as well. But this time instead of learning and changing his ways because of the world, May helps anchor Peter to not let himself be corrupted and become a monster.
Peter at the end knows that he must be and stay good even in a world that would foster the contrary.
Exactly! The scene marries Uncle Ben's dead from Spiderman 1 with Gwen dying in TAS 2. And while I am sad to see her go, I can't really argue with it.

YES , YES, _YES!_ I live for "inner conflicts" type of storyline, and this will jive perfectly with the whole identity crisis thing too. Peter Parker is "inexistent" while Spider-Man is still a famous/celebrated/reviled figure to the world. The dissonance between those two identities and the mental conflict that could ensued will mixe nicely with the loss of self theme. Oh shit, I'm already excited for Spider-Man 4 and I don't even know _when_ it's showing!

I've always liked and defended this Spider-Man because I thought the development was meant to be slower. Not only could I tell that within the growing stakes of the films, but how the soundtrack grew grander with them. This trilogy was meant to be an origin story highlighting three different points of what it means to be a hero in this context.
Homecoming was meant to be Peter desperately wanting to be part of the Avengers but then he realises what that actually means, from both being Spider-Man and how he wouldn't really have anything else to do, and how his personal life and growing up would change forever, something he doesn't want. After that reality sets in a bit more from Infinity War and Endgame, Far From Home contrasts Homecoming and Peter now wants to stay as Peter Parker instead of stepping up to be Spider-Man, or to go as high to be the next Iron Man like hero, in terms of being the one to take the large risks. Both of these films show Peter thinking that he can balance his two different lives at once, but due to him not being careful enough, Mysterio wins and Peter's anonymity is gone. What was once a looming threat to him is now a harsh reality, not only affecting him (even more since Mysterio made him look like a murderer, rather than Peter revealing himself) but also everyone around him, everyone he wanted to keep safe.
No Way Home shows him the disadvantages to being Spider-Man, and when he tries to hide from the consequences, they only intensify. He tries to keep his morals, but once people begin threatening those that he loves, the temper begins to kick in when he can't handle it. It's hinted at first when he fights Doc Ock, when MJ gets threatened. Even though Octavius was actually talking about Mary-Jane, Tom's Peter would still interpret this as a threat against his girlfriend. When this happens, he immediately begins using the Iron Spider arms and his tone audibly becomes more threatening, prioritising the fight against Doc Ock rather than saving the MIT person briefly. The temper is seen in full force when he fights Goblin. The first time, he's viciously trying to defend May after Goblin betrays him and the second time is after he's out for revenge for killing May as well as being the reason that he couldn't save Ned or MJ.
While I would have liked that they did more with this version of Aunt May, I do still really like what's presented with her character. The word 'Home' is a key part in all three titles and I think that while they can be interpreted as Peter's way of life and/or people around him, I think it also refers to May. In Homecoming, when he loses the Stark Suit and needs help after he has a date for Homecoming and has no idea what to do, he goes home to May, who can give him a way to deal with it. In Far From Home, Tony's dead, no other Avengers are seemingly around, he's far from home by literally being in a different continent, but is also far from May. While she's only a phone call away, the threats he's facing are becoming bigger and to a point where she can't give much advice. She was able to give advice on smaller crime in their area, like for the deleted scene, and his plan for MJ, which was more important to him at the time and what he wanted to focus on (and he didn't want to fight the Elementals). No Way Home had May giving more advice to Peter and being who he follows. When she dies, everything changes for him and he's got no way home in that sense. Once things spiral even more out of control after that, he's genuinely got no way home. He ends this film alone, with only himself and being Spider-Man.

I'm so excited for when they reintroduce Norman Osborn in the MCU again. Can you imagine the look on Peter's face when he finally meets his own version of Norman? The bad blood is already there and Norman isn't even the Goblin yet.
The biggest surprise for me was the redemption of the villains. I didn't expect that at all, and it was an amazing storyline to go with.
I suspected walking out of this film that Leo was going to love it, specifically because of how well it transitioned from the charming, sitcom-like tone of the first two Home films to the darker, more intense tone of classic comics like the original appearances of Doc Ock or the Sinister Six. I've seen reviews that criticize that change in tone, and I really don't get it; Spider-Man is charming when things are good, sure, but one of the most relatable things about him is how he reacts when things go bad. He hurts, hates and lashes out like all of us do. That NWH managed to capture that catharsis without becoming boring or overly dour while ALSO sincerely celebrating the other two Spider-Men we've come to love was low-key revolutionary imo---for a big-budget Disney-affiliated tentpole, anyway. The critics can bash intertextuality all they want, but as long as all of our works of art continue to exist in the same cultural landscape, I think meta commentary will continue to have an indispensable value all its own.

People hating on Tom Hollands Spidey, yet he healed up 19 YEARS worth of old wounds IN ONE GO!!!
One of the things that struck me the most about the film is how much it seems that Andrew loves playing the role of Spider-man. He gives such a spirited performance, as he did in the two Webb films, but this time he happens to be starring in a film that does the character of Spider-man and his world so much more justice. It was a treat, and an emotional one at that, to see him get another shot at bringing his Peter to life. A second chance!
Another thing that caught me off guard is just how dark this film is. Between Peter having to go rogue on Dr Strange in a desperate attempt to save the villains instead of killing them, the dire circumstances Peter is thrust into at the start of the film, the haunting nature of the ending where Peter literally has no one left in his life, to Norman beating the absolute piss out him before killing May, I just don’t think I had expected the MCU and Tom Holland’s Spidey to ever really go to these depths. Outside of the famous car scene from Homecoming, to some degree I feel like I’ve never quiiiiite bought into the stakes that MCU Spidey has been thrown up against. A big surprise for me, and something that definitely makes me excited for the future of this Spider-Man!

This movie absolutely wrecked me, I was excited to see the other Spidermans it was kinda like into the spiderverse again but also not. I loved the idea of curing villans, but I was still wrecked in the end. But that's not bad, because in reality the good guys don't always get the good ending and the bad guys don't always lose. Reminds me of the Draken/Neir game franchise, but I don't expect anyone here to know what I'm talking about. ;)
The bad guys didn't win though. Peter won in the end, he just had to make some sacrifices.

i liked the fact that these villains from the past films were humanized a bit more and they at least were given a sense of redemption as i remembered that they didn't start out as bad guys but good-hearted people who got lost.
Only bad guy that has won in MCU Spider-Man is Mysterio.
He managed to completely ruin Peter's life, none of NWH would have happened if he didn't reveal his identity.

I didn't buy into the marketing of the film either, so I didn't know what to expect, I wasn't even planning to go but the tickets were s gift, so I went and I was so pleasantly surprised, I had a great time! I also cried a couple of times 😂

The first movie in a while that really perfectly met my expectations. I especially loved the ending of him sacrificing everything to fix the universe. You really get that bittersweet closure with Ned and MJ.

Dr. Octavius was alive and his inhibitor chip was still broke. Neither is the case at the end of Spider-man 2.

I think this is how MCU Spider-Man 4 should go:
Spider-Man’s life:
The kingpin of crime (or hammerhead or tombstone) is reshaping the criminal underworld of New York City (kind of like how he tried in the PlayStation game Spider-Man: Miles Morales). He is organizing and initiating a lot of crimes in NY and he is expanding his empire.
A new start up company called Oscorp is suspiciously growing too fast and started getting contracts with the government (they might bring war machine as a cameo in telling the backstory of Oscorp). Oscorp specializes of course in Military research.
With all that going on, Kingpin runs into some problems; some of his planned
crimes to expand his criminal underworld gets foiled by none other than Spider-Man.
At first, Kingpin doesn’t give attention to the wall-crawler. However, as time passes, Spider-Man foils more and more of Kingpin’s crime and leads to more and more arrests of his men.
Spider-Man achieves this because he got way better at interrogating criminals and extracting from them valuable information to stop parallel Kingpin crimes. Spider-Man got way better at this part of the job (referencing Spider-Man homecoming) without the use of an enhanced interrogation mode 😂 (or maybe developing his own one).
Peter Parker’s Life:
Peter got a 50% scholarship for Empire State and he’s been working as a Pizza delivery Guy (or something of that sorts). And he is struggling in paying the rent and he doesn’t know how he’ll pay for the rest of the tuition in college. Peter was noticing for a while how crappy images taken of him as Spider-Man are being placed in the Bugle’s web. Peter had this great idea of taking pictures of himself swinging and fighting crime and selling them to JJJ as a free lancing photographer; he quickly finished a Free online course in photography and bought himself the best Camera he could afford.
Peter really liked photography, and Peter had his first paycheck as a free lancing photographer for the bugle and cashed it in on the same day. He hurried to the landlord to pay his overdue rent, and was shocked to see his apartment being evicted by workers. Thankfully, the landlord made everyone get Peter’s stuff and furniture back to the apartment since Peter payed the rent with the money he’s just made. However, the eviction process damaged some of Peter’s equipment.
At night, Peter feels grief…..and loneliness. He remembers Aunt May. And Ned and MJ, thinking about how their life is at MIT. He has a photo of Aunt May which he looks at. He can’t sleep, even though he knows he has a lecture tomorrow very early in the morning, he wears the suit and swings in the city for a while to take his mind of things…..and…….and he feels closest to Aunt May when he’s in the Spider-Man suit.
Spider-Man’s Life:
Spider-Man is really not making life easy for the kingpin, and he’s costing him a lot of business. Those problems would disappear if simply Spider-Man disappears. He tried to figure out his identity but always fails. Spidey’s Peter tingle always aware him when he’s being tracked or followed.
The kingpin sets up a bounty for Spider-Man in the criminal underworld and calls a friend of his to a meeting. Norman Osborne walks into Fisk’s room. Turns out Oscorp’s exponential growth was because Kingpin is funding a lot of money (through donations maybe and stuff), in return for Oscorp giving Kingpin weapons and materials.
Kingpin has been overly generous to Oscorp and he now expects a favor from Norman. He’s asking Norman if any of his research could be used to create essentially a couple of Supervillains to handle Spider-Man. Norman says he has ideas, but they’re very expensive to execute and he’s company is not in a position to handle such expenses. Wilson informs him as long as he is funding him, he doesn’t have to worry about the company.
The kingpin sends word out in the street for volunteers. 2 people show up; Mac Gargan (with a personal vendetta against Spider-Man carried all the way back from homecoming) and Aleksei Sytsevich (he could be a guy that spidey had him arrested time and time again). They essentially become Scorpion and Rhino, respectively.
In parallel with all this, Spider-Man’s relationship with the law enforcement isn’t very hot either. Because an imposter dressed up as Spider-Man keeps appearing making crimes. This could be later revealed to be none other than Quentin Beck…..the menacing mysterio.
Peter Parker’s Life:
Peter woke up very late. He was swinging for a really long time last night before finally getting back to the apartment super tired that he slept with the Spider-Man outfit still on. He’s gonna be late for the lecture. No time for subway, he swings as fast as he could with the bag pack on him. He landed in an alley near the campus, and he started wearing the clothes on top of his costume. He stuffed his Spider gloves and web shooters in the bag, but it was really difficult to fit the spider boots in there. He accidentally ruptured one of the spider boots while trying to shove it in the bag……….he needs a bigger bag, Peter thought.
At University, Peter simply goes to his lectures and gets back home. He doesn’t care about any extracurricular activities or student unions or anything like that. All he wants from that place is just to earn good grades and get a degree. And he’s certainly not interested in making friends. He’s viewed by the other students as a lonely guy that no one really talks to. Peter doesn’t hang out with anyone at all. However, an old female Professor named Anne Watson, who has a very friendly personality, has taken real interest in Peter’s intellect and made peter intern at her lab. Peter has been really enthusiastic about this and he loves spending time learning and contributing at her lab.
Also at the University, in a course, Peter scored 100% in the first midterm and in all assignments and quizzes of the course. At the end of a class, the course instructor asks Peter if he could tutor one on one with one of the students (from another section) from the course. Peter replies he’s kinda busy and the professor replies that Peter would get paid hourly for this. The money in this is really low but Peter could really use any money he could get his hands on, so Peter agrees.
Peter is introduced by the Professor to Gwen Stacy stating that he’ll tutor her weekly. Gwen Stacy is a beautiful young woman with long blonde hair. The Professor continued that Gwen’s a very bright student but she simply needs help and guidance with this course.
Back at Professor Watson’s lab, Peter meets a new intern there named Harry Osborne. The name ‘Osborne’ shakes Peter hard. With time they kinda bond over science and lab stuff, but they never really get best friends or anything (or even friends), but he does remind Peter a little with the relationship he had with Ned Leeds; how they used to talk about science stuff.
Peter finds when he tutors Gwen that she’s a real fun person to be around. She’s also extremely smart and interning at a lab different from Peter’s. She simply got bad grades in this course because she is interested in other courses and she feels this one is a waste. But she began to love it actually with Peter’s way of tutoring and enthusiasm.
Peter’s ways makes Gwen laugh and enjoy her time with him. And without Peter realizing it,spending time with her takes his mind of his grief and makes him laugh. We want to make this a really smooth falling in love experience with Peter. Peter doesn’t think about Gwen, he doesn’t care about her, and he’s certainly not thinking about any relationship. He simply enjoys his time tutoring her. Gwen on the other hand thinks about Peter a lot. And actively looks forward to the tutor time. He’s the first boy she met that she started having those feelings toward. He makes her feel….new and different.
One time while tutoring her, Peter received a police distress message, he told her that he’s so sorry and that he has to go. Gwen get’s shocked and holds his forearm, demanding gently to tell her what’s going. Peter says he really has to go and he’ll tell her next time.
I absolutely busted up laughing at the Life Is Strange cutaway, so weirdly esoteric yet contextually perfect omg bravo
so many of the “criticisms” against this iteration of the character are nitpicks or inaccuracies to sam raimis take on spiderman tone, genre, story wise, etc. for so many years its been clear how biased some these opinions have been completely dismissing the goals of this spiderman as a more close high school ditko adaptation of the character in personality and context
And, even if you don’t use any of the Steve ditko’s stuff, it’s that they’re not looking at this version of Peter outside their old lense. The glasses are great, but it’s so old now, that it obscures the image.
See nah. Look i get the whole message and that "its been done before lets do something new". But some fans just like comic accuracy. Yes this film can relate to the classic amazing fantasy "sitcom" run but it also differs alottt. (And b4 you get any ideas i am not a tobey worshiper, i belive he is someone to be respected because he was one of the first but im team andrew for most accurate and best Spider-Man. My problem with tom and maybe other can understand or relate. Is that he is so different and everything about his films are different from the source. Like aunt may dieing and saying those words, when really not even ben said those words it was just something we adapted too. Or the fake mj, they try to cover it up by saying its Michelle but then slap her last name with watson. With the whole iron man being heavy influenced on his origin. It can get annoying on how its so different. If you were to say hes your favorite Spider-Man thats whatever its your opinion. But if someonwme were to say hes the best Spider-Man that rubs me the wrong way, because how can you be the best if you are so different from the source material. You can find common a shareble qualities sure, but you also gotta weigh in the differences. So to me hes too different from the classic spidey(which is in no way tobey) im talkn amazing fantasy 1964. Ig thats why i always appreciated andrew so much because he knew the source material and really got in to it. And really brought the real spidey to the big screen.
Also shout out to webb. Because even tho he got a lot of backlash for what happened in the films. He still brought out classic characteristics for alot of the characters and gave andrew a comic accurate persona to work with. #giveWebbhiscredit

Whem i finished NWH i just thought "can't wait for Leo's new video". Watching the movie as a spider man fan after watching your analisys, that finally embodies in words what i always thougt about this character was a real satisfaction. I was thinking about the "Peter Parker diagram" about flirty trickster, bad Luck and Bad Temper, thinking about the representation of MJ as, finally a real force in Peter Parker's life, and the tonal shift you highlighted in the previous video about university Peter. I LOVED how JJJ was poltrayed, much better tham the Raimi movies (i think Defoe is more Green Goblim too). The even show him getting more and more popular as the movir progresses. All this essays made my experience even better at the theater. I loved, the movie, loved your analysis as always. Waiting for the t r a u m a video.

Such a nice throwback when Peter (Tobey) meets Otto for the first time in Spider-Man 2 (2004), Otto says that *you’re brilliant but lazy* and Peter replies that *he’s trying to do better* and in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) when Otto asks how are you, he replies the same answer *trying to do better.* So good!
I wasn't sold on Jon Watts as the F4 director until I saw this movie. The fact it was so ambitious and pulled it off better than I expected with heavy moments feeling heavy and the light moments well spaced out to give the emotional moments meaning really made this my favorite Spider-Man movie. It good.

While ITSV might, MIGHT be better, this is my personal favorite simply because I grew up with all 3.
Tobey was the Spidey of my kid years, Andrew the Spidey of my early teens, and Tom my late teens and now adulthood. So seeing 3 eras of my life come together...fantastic.
I am so excited for the next trilogy.

Aye I wasnt hyped for it becayse I thought it was just gonna be fan service and that. But fuck yes was it good, and much more than that. With each spidey and villain done pretty spot on. I leaned forward so much when Andrew Showed up, like bro, the catharsis I felt then. I was fully prepared for him not being in it, and then he goddamn was. Also almost cried when he got MJ, full of 'If you start crying so will I' moment
I dunno what I can add to the comment section to be honest…Everyone already stole my words. They did the villains SO well. And the interactions between all 3 Spider-men were some of my favorites in the movie. THEY’RE ALL BROTHERS.
And GOD that ending….they completely knocked it out of the park with this one. And I’m stoked to see you go more in depth with it in more videos too!

What is your take on the Ultimate universe (aka Brian Michael Bendis') run on Spider-Man? for me the MCU Spider-Man feels like it drew a great deal of inspiration from Miles Morales. there are obvious ones like Genke and his girlfriend's dad being a bad guy (who's vulture suit is a direct copy of Prowler's winged suit). The more I thought about it, the more I found that in the first two movies it felt more like a Miles Morales story than a Peter Parker story. Like they sort of blended the two characters together to make the Tom Holland Spider-Man.

I think we’ll get Black Cat on the next Spider-Man movie. Peter leaves his old life behind and embraces his new life as simply Spider-Man, only being Peter for classes and odd jobs for rent money. Then, Felicia comes into his life. She only cares about Spider-Man, not about Peter’s personal life and he loves it at first, because he wants the same thing. Then the story becomes about how meaningful true connections can be, or something. Throw in Kraven and the Venom Symbiote causing a ruckus, and you got about 2 hours and 15 minutes of good material.
You are so right! Though I am not sure about Kraven and Venom in one movie. I am more leaning having Venom in the next one (since they set him up already), and Kraven after that. Kraven could be the perfect initiator to change the view on Spider-man.

One thing I’ve always wanted in a Spider-Man movie is to see his adult life dealing with things like a job, rent, Spider-Man,etc. For it to really get into some of the things that make older Spider-Man relatable, I’m glad we’re going to get that In the future.

I absolutely love your reviews and essays on MCU Spiderman. I've always loved MCU Spidey but far from home felt a little empty to me when I saw it in theaters, now after your essay on it and kinda growing and being able to relate to Peter more I really appreciate that film and I love everything they have done with much Spidey!

ever since I realized that the first enemy the avengers fought in the classic comics was Loki, I think you’re absolutely right with how they’ve approached spider-mans story beyond the mythology and truly understand the source material and the way they wanna bring these characters to life. some things may change but they make conscious decisions like having Loki be the villain in The Avengers and Peter struggling with responsibility with stories that don’t need uncle as he he already knows he has to do something when people are in trouble... because uncle Ben taught him that. the tragedy of uncle Ben is that he has to take that final lesson and responsibility and maneuver his own way into adulthood without uncle bens wisdom to guide him further. Uncle Ben isn’t a ghost looming around the corner for Peter.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but at this point, TH-cam titles alone have spammed me with so many spoilers that I feel like I've already watched it. So what the hell, I'll just watch this one
I wonder if MJ will still be a thing? Will we actually see a Mary Jane Watson? I haven't seen the movie nor been to a theatre but can no one know he's spiderman now? Can he tell people or have them figure stuff out? Because honestly I love Comics MJ and would love to see Spider-Man's Soul Mate on Screen.
Another thing, we the new trilogy (confirmed? No clue), people are calling it a soft reboot.
It’s not. Just because a part of his life has been erased does not mean the others have been. As in, Spider-Man is still remembered, and even then, his memories and everything he’s learnt is what will make him Spider-Man in the next trilogy. Each villains in each film taught him different things, vulture was the conflict to doing being a hero outside the suit, the second was learnt about deception and developed his spider sense, and green goblin taught him absolute fear, and obviously the whole thing NWH is about, second chances, sacrifices, and holding your morale ground.
