    I was so disappointed with what this show did to Elizabeth's character by the last few episodes. They took a fascinating historical queen beloved for her graciousness, intelligence, piety, and kindness and twisted her into a cold and unfeeling person to make her more "powerful". A true disservice to the real Elizabeth of York.

      Game of Throne is popular, so of course they're going to copy their character into a Cersei clone by the end. But, they were all probably terrible people. Butchering each other on the way to the throne. France, or the newly united Spain, or perhaps the HRE should have invaded after England sapped itself in civil war. At this point in history, England was a joke.

      Alex Zaragoza everyone is looking at this one sidedly. First off Lizzy wasn't heartless in her decision to kill her SUPPOSED brother and cousin, the series showed it weighed heavily on her and it was a hard choice for her to make. However the brother was a pawn for the Duchess of Burgundy and very ignorant. He flat out said to Lizzy once he won the crown he would keep her and her children safe when by all means he could NEVER do that. Just as there were so many Yorkists, there were just as many Lancastrian and Tudors supporters as well and they would never rest and use Henry and Lizzy's children as pawns as well to overthrow him. That is the unfortunate reason why Teddy couldn't be released. All the Yorkist supporters looked to him and this SUPPOSED Richard as a way to overthrow their enemy. So when Lizzy realized how ignorant this boy was he pretty much sealed the deal for himself. Because then she had to choose between her children or her cousin and someone who could be her brother. That says it all and she HAD to choose her children to be sure she protected them as best as she could bc there would always be some threats against them but with a York on the throne, their lives were in 1000x more danger. Furthermore the SUPPOSED brother caused all this bc he was very ignorant. He could have lived out the rest of his life in peace, however he decided to try to go for the throne not realizing or caring that there was a very good chance that it could cost his sister and her children her lives. Why does no one think about that. He chose not to care or realize the severity of his actions, so he made his bed and he had to lie in it. Lastly Lizzy's mother in the series. Yes she was a strong women and was locked up in an Abbey, however it was for good reason. She never stopped plotting to overthrow Henry. That's the whole reason she ended up there, does everyone forget that she did in fact order someone to try to assassinate him and that she was in contact with The Duchess of Burgundy to try to overthrow him? Yes maybe Henry's mother was a little extreme but she was always protective of Henry and she blocked Elizabeth Woodville wherever she could. That is why they were at War with each other bc Elizabeth Woodville had difficulty getting her way with Margaret Beaufort bc they were equals in intelligence and Margaret rightfully wouldn't let her successfully plot against her son, so again Elizabeth made her bed and had to lay in it as well. However everyone please remember this was just a series facts were skewed and altered in many ways. No one really knows the whole truth of everything that really happened. All that we do know for sure is that Henry and Lizzy grew to love each other and through there marriage and partnership they brought about the END of the WAR OF ROSES and made England strong again. Because of their strength every monarch who has sat on the throne after them is a direct descendant of theirs. It stinks that this was only ever made to be a miniseries but all in all it was very well done bc in 8 short episodes it showed the many layers that each of them had, and through the series we saw, on some level, what probably happened in real life, they chose to ignore their mothers and chose each other and created a powerful dynasty with love and respect for each other.

    Margaret's argument or justification is flawed. In the White Queen we see her making ambitious decisions, based on her want of him to be on the throne not to protect him as he would have been relatively safe considering his that he was not close to the throne. It was her ambitions that but him in danger. She was fighting for a crown, not his life.

      Ugitzu. She was brutal and borderline insane....no she was insane. There was a scene were her husband asked her what the outcome of busting the princes from the tower were to be. She answered "whatever gods will was" he snickers at that knowing she was dancing around the question as he knew she wanted them dead, just not on her given command. She has the audacity to spit back "You would have me order the deaths of two children only nine and twelve? "Then after her husband trolls her she proceeds to say the" men must kill them." How in the world was she a godly woman? This daughter of god practically cheated on her husband in front of his face and taunt him with her closeness to Jasper. Lastly, she talked with poorly hidden glee at the prospect of Richard doing them the favor of killing two princes.

    • @panloum
      @panloum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@sabilapusmeong no.t exactly. She wanted the storm to prevent them from going to Calais. They did not want the death of Isabel's death. This was something they did not plan and Elizabeth felt horrible after that. Both in the book and series it is clear they did not wished for it. Margaret lied to her half=brother and had him killed (in the series, in reality he never was killed by the Yorks) sacrificed her kinsman the Duke of Buckingham since she knew that either Richard III or her son would soon kill him after doing her dirty work and of course ordered the death of the two princes. That is why I find Margaret's line about Elizabeth so unfair and Izzie should have denied her mother of these wrong-doings.

      You should read "The Red Queen". His birth is described there, but even the nonfiction history books say it was awful. She was only 12 or 13 at the time, and very slimly-built. The labor was progressing too long, so the midwives had to toss her in a blanket. Afterwards, she was so physical messed up, that it was determined she'd never be able to have another child.

    I think she wasn't just talking about her so-called infant nephew, but also her brothers in the tower. Elizabeth didn't have time to grieve or make a ceremonial funeral for her brothers the princes of the tower because she was a pawn by her own mother Elizabeth Woodville and Margaret Beaufort became the future queen of England. Elizabeth had little choice and she questioned her mother and mother-in-law, "how could you insist on fighting and not think of her own children who would be the source of joy in hating and fearing any Yorkist claims." Elizabeth just couldn't understand how can these women who were mothers themselves would kill innocent children. But she realized that she must think like a mother now and protect her children at any cost now.

  • @jonathanwilliams9697

    The one thing i hate about the turn from Plantagenets to The Tudors is the fact that Elizabeth of York was the answer to everyone's problems yet England (and Wales) ended up being ruled by an inferior branch of the royal line descended through an illegitimate (later legitimised) child. Henry VII only claim to the throne was a tenuous connection via his mothers legitimised line - considered weak because it came via his mother. His marriage to Elizabeth of York (the true monarch in the eyes of many now and at the time) and his Right of Conquest are truly what gave him the ability to hold the throne. If Henry had married anyone else his line would likely have ended with him.

    This show really stepped into conspiracy central. Probably why it only had the 8 episodes. They really vilified King Henry's mother. There is no proof she had the boys in the tower killed. In fact, King Richard had the greatest motif of all; which is why I think he had them killed and why he deserved to be overthrown and killed at the battle of Botsworth. A lot of this show was completely inaccurate. They could have done much better.

      @@kingwarhammer9585 After the disappearance of the princes, the Yorkist secretly declared Elizabeth of York as the rightful heir of the throne, so, Richard III's declaration didn't hold the sway we are led to believe. This is the reason that the Lancaster descendants sought the match between Henry Tudor and Princess Elizabeth as it would legitimize his rule if he were to marry the heiress to the throne. Furthermore, Elizabeth Woodville turned on Richard III after the perceived deaths of her sons and sought out Margaret Beaufort to form an alliance that would place both of their heirs on the throne of England. The Lancaster faction could not predict that killing the boys would result in such an alliance and Richard probably did not expect that people would support his niece's claim over his own once all other male heirs were deceased. I do believe Richard was loyal to his eldest brother, whose claim would always usurp his own, but I do not believe he was loyal to his brothers children and probably believed that he was doing England a service by riding them of child kings that could not fight for their right to rule.

      50% of people died before 20 years of age in those days. most didnt survive infancy and those who did died from plague/war/childbirth/infection. there was no medicine, no "regular checkups" and very often by the time you saw a healer of some kind you were dying.

      She killed her brother because he threatened her sons' lives, since their father is Henry. Her mother wasn't that good either. She used her own daughter as a pawn to get closer to the throne, and at the first opportunity, turned her back on her and her grandsons when she chose to back her own son, considering Elizabeth was the Queen and her grandsons were princes of England. Lizzie at first wanted to spare her brother, but it was either him or her sons. A mother will always choose her child.

    I have always hated the Tudor family, and her books have only increased my hatred. I'd love to go back in time and show "My lady the king's mother" and her rapist fucker of a son exactly what happens to their family. From the fat ass widow maker, to the bloody Mary, to the Virgin Queen. I really wonder what would have happened if the Yorks had remained in power, I know Queen Elizabeth helped bring an age of culture, and that settlers of america left to pursue religious freedom from her family, so I really wonder how different our history would be if they hadn't taken over.

      This show horribly portrays Margaret Beaufort. Historically, she was nowhere near as bad as they portray her to be. Honestly, they might as well have just cast Maleficent.
