The White Queen is a terrific mini-series. And that's why I am expecting The White Princess to be as great as that show. So far, it is reaching my expectations. 👍
Never read the books and don't care to because from everything I hear the author had a favorable opinion of Richard the III compared to Henry VII but with this show only being a miniseries it was done really well especially with only having 8 episodes. & this scene right here was arguably the best scene in the whole series bc it is where Lizzie FINALLY realizes that Henry is as much a pawn as she is and not the monster that she thought. Through this scene she comes to realize that they have a lot more in common than she could have ever thought and that Henry is actually a good person. The turning point in their relationship was this moment and it was done really well and after this scene they both pretty much took a stand to work as team together both in their marriage and their ruling and to not be under the influence of each of their mothers so much. Obviously they faced other issues further in the season but through it all they stuck together and in my opinion the unity all started with this great scene.
Yes. They're no longer "York" or "Tudor" each on their own. They form their own together. When I watched this scene it hit me as a very powerful one as well

It’s debatable whether or not the author had a favourable opinion of Richard, because, in the book, towards the end, we see him use both his wife Anne and Elizabeth badly. He made Elizabeth his mistress in order to insult Henry Tudor to whom she was betrothed, and to basically ruin her reputation, and he didn’t care that by flaunting her as his mistress publicly he was also insulting Anne. Even if Richard wasn’t behind her younger brothers killings he is the one who ordered her older half brother executed and I don’t think she’d get over that.
Elizabeth already knew who were her enemies and nobles would always go after the crown. That is why, Elizabeth was Henry's closest ally and confident as she is his wife and knew how to play the duty wife role in order to capture her enemies in plain sight. You have to feel bad for Henry the 7th because he didn't choose the life of a king. It was already written by fate that he would create a Tudor dynasty. The sad part is both Elizabeth and Henry were pawns to their families to gain power. That was why, they need power for themselves to break away from being their pawns. And they did.
While I don’t like the idea of Lizzie being in love with her uncle (ew, gross)…I do like her asking Henry “You don’t want someone who yearns to be with you?” in a heartbroken voice. This is a woman who experienced love and can’t imagine a person who doesn’t want the same thing she experienced. Until she meets Henry, another puppet of a mother’s ambition who had never been allowed to consider what he wanted for himself, that is.
Personally I would have shipped them in a more positive note if it was Richard who was responsible for her brother death and she had nothing to do with her uncle. I think it would have been more believable and I would have liked if she and her mother were as close as her grandmother and mother were.
Marie V I agree but the author of the books had a favorable view of Richard III unfortunately. Personally I choose to believe that it was Richard III who killed the princes in the tower, bc he stole their crown so obviously he wanted to keep it and he couldn't do that if they we're alive. Furthermore Elizabeth Woodville supported Henry VII's claim to throne and marriage pact with her daughter in history bc she most likely believed the same thing. Long story short we will never know the truth but despite everything even if the princes died by some other means it is still Richard III"s fault bc he was the one who stole their crown and put them in the tower, and made them vulnerable to anything happening so for putting them in that position he will always be responsible for their death if you ask me.
I like in the book Richard asked if her father had any doubt about his people's loyalty and she's like no everyone loved my father and he knew it. Richard wasn't charming like her father.
The reality is Henry was not born with a destiny he was born heir to the earldom of Richmond, he wouldn’t have been thought of as a claimant for the throne at the time of his birth at all, at that point Henry VI still reigned and had a legitimate heir in Prince Edward of Westminster. It was only after they were both killed that Henry was considered the heir to house of Lancaster and what a weak claim it was… in my opinion the house of York were a far better choice for the English throne and may have gone on to win back The French territories lost under Lancaster
Philippa Gregory and the writer for this show Emma Frost seem to take the view that Margaret Beaufort always planned for her son to take the throne which is as far as I ascertain unfounded, she worked her way into Edward 1Vs court and favour to try and have her sons rights restored but that was it, there was no grand plans for the throne until Richard gave them an opening.

This actor is better than her yet. Henry Tudor was played in such sad, tragic and broken way. He does not find a place, or someone that really love him, or in who trust.
There’s really no need for comparison. Both did a fantastic job at portraying the roles they were given. You don’t have to bring one actor down to bring another up.
I prefer her mother from the white queen. Her character is awesome she will do all she can for her children and family or have a way to avenge their deaths somehow. Yet this "white princess" betrays her family.
Elizabeth Woodville's entire family betrayed the Lancasters when she married Edward IV. What do you expect women back then to do? They were taught to obey their husbands. Katherine of Aragorn had to step aside when Henry VIII tried to betroth their daughter Mary to the Dauphin of France, who was her family's mortal enemy. Margaret Tudor had to support her son James V of Scotland when her brother's wife killed her husband. You can't say that Elizabeth of York betrayed her family when her children should be of top priority to her, AND her family has supposedly sworn fealty to Henry VII.
Aisling Yinyr Ngaio She obviously betrayed her family! It is her mother’s dying wish that she helps her brother gain the throne. Her mother gave her life, status and everything else she had. Her mother had been supporting and protecting her all her life. She owes her mother a major debt of gratitude, while she didn’t owe her children anything. Therefore she should have placed her mother’s interests over her children’s. and don’t forget that her first child was the result of sexual violence rather than romantic love! How can you value such children more than your mother?
@B Lor And that the children would be executed or sent to nunneries if the brother won. I would have more loyalty to my children than to a brother (her mother could be lying for all she knew since I haven't seen the show) who hasn't been seen in decades.
One would think Starz could get the subtitles to match the dialogue. They are so far off it is almost comical and I can't imagine how anyone could understand this scene if they had to rely on these subtitles.
All evidence in history points to them having a very loving relationship. Especially for back in that time with most marriages occurring for political alliances. In just the series perspective yes Lizzy did fall in love with Henry Tudor.

The acting in this series was subpar compared to The White Queen. By the end, you really don’t like Elizabeth or Henry and the liberties they took with their history are pretty unforgivable.
This is utterly rubbish. Henry VII through his father is the half nephew of a Lancastrian King, and his mother an heir of the body of the first Lancastrian King. He is one of the few choice for all the families that had put their children, wealth and lives for the Lancaster cause. He never had a choice. As for Elizabeth, no one, her mother, her grandmothers, nor any of the women around her ever marry for love. She knew as an heir of the body of a York King she has the duty to marry for her family and their supporters.
Gregory's books are about as accurate as Reign. Although historically even though their marriage was arranged Elizabeth and Henry did actually have mutual affection for one another.
I mean you are a little bit wrong when it comes to marrying for love, from Elizabeth line. Her grandmother Jacquetta Of Luxembourg had married the guy who escorted her after her first husband's death and had lower status than she had. They married in secret and I thing it only fly by because she was the Queen friend and that her first husband was a brother to king Henry the Vth. Also her mother had married for ,,love" although it's not certain
Her grandmother, Jacquetta Woodville married for love after the death of her first husband. She married her dead husband’s squire. Which was seen as beneath her for a woman of her status. She still did it anyways despite the setback to her reputation. So what you said was not completely accurate.
Reading the histories, there can be little doubt that Henry came to truly love Elizabeth. He was already broken up from Arthur's death but when she died too he was devastated. He never remarried and wasn't the same man after.
I think she was about 19 years old in history and has been her mother's pawn all her life. Just the age alone I can see why she isn't more thankful for what her mother has done. What 19 year old is fully thankful for what their parents have done? I think as she got older and became more and more a Queen then she kind of understood what her mother did
This is the moment Lizzie and Henry bonded - a turning point in their relationship. For the first time, it became “us against them.”

One would think Starz could get the subtitles to match the dialogue. They are so far off it is almost comical and I can't imagine how anyone could understand this scene if they had to rely on these subtitles.
But does Elisabeth fall in love with Henry?
All evidence in history points to them having a very loving relationship. Especially for back in that time with most marriages occurring for political alliances. In just the series perspective yes Lizzy did fall in love with Henry Tudor.
Yes
the white queen was great quality and bbc did an amazing job not the white princess sadly
The white Princess was far more entertaining and better acted, not to mention with better sets and better wardrobe
@@ariaslegacies341 yup, tried to watch the white queen 5 years ago and i cant finish it, done after 4 episodes, I only finished it after watching the white princess early this year 😂😂😂, yup it was better acted thanks to the 2 leads esp jodie comer…i love it so much ,watched it several times already and it made me a fan of jodie comer, now reading the book bec i cant get enough of the series tbh.😅
Both are good, but I prefer The White Queen too.
No one said Gregory actually paid attention to history outside of dates.
Es una locura, se casó con quien mató a su padre como iba a pretender que lo ame
Edward IV estaba enfermo como muestra en la Reina Blanca. Henry VII no lo mato
Reading the histories, there can be little doubt that Henry came to truly love Elizabeth. He was already broken up from Arthur's death but when she died too he was devastated. He never remarried and wasn't the same man after.
I don’t like Lizzie, she doesn’t apreciet what Elizabeth did for her children, what she fought for they’re rights, and well being
I think she was about 19 years old in history and has been her mother's pawn all her life. Just the age alone I can see why she isn't more thankful for what her mother has done. What 19 year old is fully thankful for what their parents have done? I think as she got older and became more and more a Queen then she kind of understood what her mother did
I still don't like Henry Tudor.
Whats so good that she betrayed her own family for love ? Did she cared for her children yes but her duty was with her family
