First heard this via a Sony Walkman on a Sunday afternoon as I walked through a wheat field back in the summer of 1983. A mate had done me a tape of PCL after I had expressed an interest in New Order. I realised before the end of this record that I would love this band for years to come (assuming they stayed together), recognising something special. There are too many great New Order tracks to list even ten absolute favourites but if forced at gunpoint Procession would be in there - an absolute masterpiece.
They wrote some of best songs when all three worked together. It is a pity Stephen gave up on writing music and Peter Hook was constantly worried about booting out of the band after Republic.
I love early New Order because their early sound had a great blend of Joy Division and their new sound. I really wished the band made more Movement-esque albums. It's the best era of NO imo.
My heart belongs to "Ceremony," but this is New Order's best original song, period. It is easily as great as any Joy Division. That's why I can identify quite a few lyrical mistakes, here! Pretty sure the song goes: There is no end to this I have seen your face, But I don't recognize all these things You must have kept behind It's a problem, you know That's been there all your life I tried to make you see the world without you That just turned black and white At night, it gets cold, and You'd dearly like to turn away An escape that fails Makes the wounds of time won't heal alone Alone, alone, alone, alone There is no end to this Can't turn away, another picture But the scene is still the same There is no room to move Or try to look away Remember, life is strange Life keeps getting stranger every day Lots of harmless attitudes The type that won't subside [No] matter what they say, you knew Your heart beats you late at night Your heart beats you late at night Your heart beats you late at night Your heart beats you late at night

Just saw Hooky play this in LA and it never gets old even after 43 years. The moody synth, infectious guitar hook, and of course Hooky’s feel good bass line…. it just doesn’t get any better which is saying a lot considering what a groundbreaking seminal album Movement is.
- That opening synth sound from an ARP Quadra I believe is SO evocative for me, takes me back to a simpler time hearing it on the John Peel show, I think it was a festive 50, I saw Peter Hook and the Light do this one and many others this year and it was the most emotional I've ever been at a gig, Superb.
