    A way to make it even easier to put Them back in is to put the new bearings in the freezer and heat the part of the frame where the bearing will go in... Makes the job soooooo much easier

      Very good point! I'm planning to do this for the frame bolts so will definitely mention this in one of the future videos!

      Another tip to add is for removal warm the outside frame part and chill the bearings race OD with a can of air turned upside down.

    This worked a treat! Thank you, saved me spending money on special tools or having the work done in store.... £25 for a new set of bearings, a few hours of butt clenching bodgery and it feels brand new! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Great DIY. As probably mentioned by others, cooling the bearings in the freezer will provide some temporary clearance for easier installation. Also, just sacrifice the old bearings as the install press as it’s the exact size required. It would also help the efficiency of this DIY method even more to use ratchet wrenches/spanners if you have them.
    Nice to see people working on their own stuff as much as possible. 👍🏽

    This is great, thanks! Ordered some bearings for my Giant Anthem off aliexpress for about 2EUR a piece! Will replace them using your method. Now just to figure out how to actually get to the main pivot bearings as the outer cap comes off but but the rest of the assembly just stays 🤔

    Just disassemble the old bearing and use the outer race as the pushing adapter (instead of the socket). It will perfectly match the diameter and the length of the whole press will be much smaller meaning less chance of a missalignment.

    If someone still watches this video, 2:15 if you have double bearing setup, like my specialized camber elite, do not use this method, because there is lip between two bearings and trying to remove bearings with this method will destroy your frame. Check online if your bike have drawings etc. where you can check before trying it.

    • @buckbikespent4588
      @buckbikespent4588  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good point, this method can be used for most scenarios where you have a single bearing. I did not even know there are frames with stacked bearings. Hope your frame is good.

  • @bogdanbroasca9066
    @bogdanbroasca9066 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why don't you use some grease on the frame or on the exterior of the bearings to help slide into position easier?

    • @buckbikespent4588
      @buckbikespent4588  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were going in easy enough but you are right, a little bit of grease could help :)

    • @DanielHarcha
      @DanielHarcha 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You DO NOT want to lubricate the outside race of a ball bearing; you want that interface to be tight to eliminate slipping/material wear. In fact, often times mfg will suggest loctite to prevent the outer race from slipping.

    • @Adam-vm8kp
      @Adam-vm8kp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@DanielHarcha you absolute want to grease the surface before you press the bearing in. It helps to press it but leaves a barrier to stop galling if it’s a stainless steel race into an aluminium frame, otherwise it’s a pain to remove them. The bearing will push most of the grease out anyway, just leaves a film to prevent corrosion.

      Thank you! I just measured the bearings and got them off eBay. All bearings will have an inner diameter (ID), an outside diameter (OD) and width (W). Bearings are sometimes referenced by these dimensions, in that order: ID x OD x W.

    • @buckbikespent4588

      I haven't tried this on a carbon frame but the proper bearing presses work the same way. You have to know if you frame has stacked bearings or not and be careful if the surface is not even. Did you manage to get yours out?

    Looks like you are damaging / scratching the frame with your removal tool.

    • @buckbikespent4588
      @buckbikespent4588  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The paintjob is not great on the frame and it was already flaking around the bearings when I got it. If you maybe sand down the lips of the sockets to have a wider contact area, you would keep any potential damage to a minimum.

      My thoughts exactly. If you don't have rust issues before, you will after. May want to get some plumbing seals to act as a separate maybe

    • @buckbikespent4588

      Someone had tried to paint the frame before I got it and they did not do a good job. The paint was already flaking around the bearings. If you maybe sand down the lips of the sockets to have a wider contact area, you would keep any potential damage to a minimum. Also you can tape the socket so that it is not metal to metal contact if you want to be extra safe.
