The composition is of Amaal Malik. Vocals are of Armaan Malik. Amaal is the elder brother of Armaan and is one of the top composers,or I say music directors of India. He has also won National Filmfare award for best composition. I think you're misled by someone saying that it is a composition of A.R. Rahman.
Hey bro it's Filmfare awards, National Filmfare awards are not a thing. It is the National Film award which is awarded by Govt of India.

I don't know if you caught the fact that the kid's name is David which is also the main guy's name. It's even more heartbreaking thinking that they named their kid after him .

Sorry this is not AR Rehman’s composition. This song is composed by Amaal Malik. He is Arman’s elder brother. Amaal is a very well-known composer and one of the youngest also. This is not part of a movie. It is Armaan’s single.

Have been in that situation like Emraan Hashmi and I agree it's super hard . Very hard to cope with. But after 4 or 5 months i started realising i was late in confessing my love and thus I lost whatever chance i had. Then when I saw that she is happy with whoever she was with, i came to peace with myself and love. No one ever said that i should forget her as that's more painful. I treated it as an life experience and moved on. Whenever I recall those days they make me smile thinking atleast i was and am and will always be her best friend.

This song is by Amaal Mallik (composer, singer) the older brother of Armaan Malik. The lyrics are by Rashmi Singh and Virag Mishra, an Indian lyricist duo. The talented actor is Emraan Hashmi and the lovely Esha Gupta and Abhinav Shukla . The song was shot in the very beautiful coastal Goa, a famous tourist beaches state in south western India.

Love your passion for learning about the music you are hearing. Do try out someone other than Arijit. (And I barely scratch the surface with my suggestions):
1. South Indian bands - You have already heard Agam. There is Masala Coffee on Music Mojo, especially when Sooraj Santhosh was the lead singer, and there is Job Kurian's Padayatra. Also Thaikkudam Bridge - hear their One and Fish Rock.
2. Carnatic/Classical - Please check out Vikku Vinayakram (ghatam - percussion on a mud pot) - See his 'Live at Afghan Church'. Aruna Sairam's very unusual voice - See Kalinga Narthana Thillana. Take a look at Abby V's 73 ragas.
3. Hindi film music - Check out Salim-Sulaiman. Also see Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar, and Amit Trivedi. They are all composers, but they sing as well. For Amit Trivedi, you can check out his independent music - Moti Veraana and Radhe.
4. Ananya Bhat's Sojjugada Soju Mallige.

There's a theory that the main guy 'David' might already be dead and little David is just visiting his grave with his parents (it's a common trope that kids can see ghosts). That's why the girl and her husband doesn't interact with David at all. It's like they are just visiting his grave on a particular day (probably his death anniversary) so that the kid can pay his respects. Since David died and she lost her best friend, it would make sense that she named her kid after him (otherwise it would be weird and her husband might object). The location fits perfectly for a tomb, overlooking the cliffside. Also, David never leaves his spot, like he is bound to it or something. The whole time, it seems like he is invisible to everyone expect the kid.
The parents are also both dressed in white clothes that's akin to mourning clothes in Hindu tradition.
The literal translation of this song's first paragraph is "Whether I remain or not, just remain somewhere in me. Keep coming in my dreams, even when I have my Final Sleep/Last Sleep."
