    I relate so much to what you said about looking back on older videos. I've changed a lot myself since I started making videos and am embarrassed of so many things I said in the past. I've had people occasionally ask me about older videos that are no longer online and I have to politely explain that I just don't feel comfortable having them up anymore.
    I think change and growth is so important. Nobody is perfect and we learn and evolve and recognise our flaws the older we get. I'm not even close to the same person I was 20 or 15 or 10 or even 2 years ago. And I consider that a good thing.
    This was a wonderful look at "The Weekenders" and it definitely brought back so many memories, even though I haven't seen an episode in probably twenty years. It shows how lasting it is that I can still vividly remember the various pizza themes, several of the episode plots and even Carver's obsession with shoes.

    I really like how you seem to enjoy cartoons that kinda fit into the "slice of life" genre the most (going by your videos). I feel like a LOT of time animators and animation fans are pigeonholed into "wacky". Like the only cartoons that "count" are the ones that are super crazy or are really high concepts. Sometimes it feels like if you're someone who likes (or makes) slower, less frenetic energy, you're like not a real cartoon maker/fan. It gets to you after a while.
    So I really do like how so many of your videos show these kinds of cartoons of just kids being kids as really enjoyable and important in their own light, and not everything needs to be SpongeBob or Avatar.
    idk just something I've been overthinking about.

    It’s a special kind of horror to look back at your work and realize that you have moved beyond it, and especially when people remember your old work and want to talk about it, understand, maybe dissect it. Nothing makes me my skin crawl more when friends see and remember my old sketches. I have the privilege of still having friends from preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school at 29. I don’t take it for granted. However, some of them have my older work I’ve gifted to them over the years, and they bring it out, show me, and my only wish in that moment is for a swift catapulting into space.
    🙈 🚀
    But as I’ve gotten older, it doesn’t hurt to see it all as much. I look back and realize that the work is only a reflection of the knowledge and tools I had at the time, and it’s nothing to feel ashamed of.
    Cheers to your growth!

    Gotta say i really appreciate how authentic it feels to listen to/watch your videos as a black man. I consume a lot of long form video essays and as the internet tends to be, it's generally pretty white. There are a lot of good black TH-camrs in the same bag that I enjoy but it almost feels like their content is catered to the white ear or I know for a fact a lot of their friends/peers/sound boards are white.
    Listening to you feels like i'm talking to an out of town cousin or my brother from out of state (yeah i heard you be in jersey and I'm from brooklyn so you already know the tri-state beef baby - you know the vibes) and it's just incredibly refreshing. From your intro skits to the music to the slang that's not cut or censored or left out entirely because its "not professional" I just really appreciate the work you do.

      We're in luck; Cree Summers may be the best-known, but there've been a few that've been getting popular in recent years. Estelle Fanta Swaray (the voice of SU's Garnet), Yvette Nicole Brown (a.k.a. Amanda Waller from DC Comics), and those are just the ones off the top of my head. That said, I agree it never hurts to have more of em. They're still a relatively small group, and they deserve to become the next Novie Edwards or Yvette Nicole Brown.

    • @DigiRangerScott
      @DigiRangerScott 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@joinmarch76 Estelle doesn’t have that many roles outside of Garnet, and yes, even for a primarily on-camera actor YNB is definitely accruing a lot of voice acting credits.

    Sometimes, keeping things simple can work so well for shows. The charm of the show just being about friends vibin out on the weekend shouldn't work, but it does. Stuff like this and Recess really makes me miss being a kid; no bills, no debt, no worries about all this worldly stuff.

I never did have friends who would hang out with me so I always wished I was Tino or something in it, like some sort of projection. I wanted to hang out and do all the cool things they did as someone from a small town where all those weren't a thing. The whole vibe is probably why I like slice-of-life comics, webcomics, manga, and anime. Also I had a bit of a crush on Lor now that i think about it and it's probably why I like Ritsu from K-On so much.

    A show I didn't fully appreciate at first, but soon garnered a real respect for. I'd say I always kind of considered it Disney's answer to Rocket Power, but if the question is "Hey, can you do this, but GOOD and not a cynical tie in to extreme sports?" Plus, that chemistry between Jason Marsden and Phil LaMarr is just fantastic. That's worth watching the show for alone.
