I am reflecting my age here, but it never ceases to puzzle me why people in "modern" society are programmed to develop (pun unintentional) contempt for older technology, just because something newer, but typically more convenient is available. Most electro mechanical devices were designed for reliability, and a long life, given reasonable care. This camera is a case in point. I have never really been a hard line believer of 'point and shoot' cameras, but I would not deny they have provided many candid photographs that now live in family albums, and but for such cameras, these photos would not exist. For my use, I like to understand what is going on inside a camera, and the various elements of good photography. Although I understand the process at the cognitive level, it still fascinates me to the point where I equate it with wonderful magic. 'Capturing light'. 'Fixing an image'. To do it properly, one has to pay attention by never losing such fascination, and respect for seizing an instant of reality onto a physical (now electronic charged) media for posterity.

hi! i actually found this camera that my parents had used and forgotten and the battery chamber is in pretty bad shape - was wondering if you knew what to do to restore it 🥲 but other than that this video has been pretty helpful to me! thanks 🙏

Finding these with at least some degree of battery leakage is quite common. If you have the batteries out and can assess the level of leakage, it is better if it is confined to the terminals on the underside of the door, because it is easier to mechanically scrape off the leaked material, and if necessary, scrape them until you get shiny metal to contact the batteries. If it is down inside, but not on the terminals, I just clean it out with Q-tips. If it affects the terminals down inside, you just have to do your best to reach in with something and get the material out, and if necessary, scrape the terminals down to bare metal so they will make contact with the batteries. If you have the door open and haven't gotten the batteries out yet because they are stuck, I've learned a little trick to get them out. I drill a hole in the end of the stuck battery, then turn a wood screw with coarse thread part-way into the hole, then pull on the screw head with pliers. I've always been able to remove a stuck AA battery from a camera or flash that way. Good luck.

Is there a way to turn off the year on the date function leaving only the month and day?

That would be nice, but I'm unaware of that being possible on this model, or any of the point-and-shoot 35mm film cameras that are continuing to be used beyond the built-in calendar limits. 2019 probably seemed like a long way into the future when this camera was made.
