    I do appreciate your videos. However, one thing I do have a concern about is getting a bird because it "talks." I think there are plenty of other reasons that will make a longer lasting relationship with a parrot than talking ability. I think personality will always out last other qualities people often get parrots for(beautiful, mimicry and so on.)

    • @paleoguy2165
      @paleoguy2165 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well this lost is for people who’s main checkbox is taking ability

    • @KS-un4yb
      @KS-un4yb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paleoguy2165 Talking ability is literally the last thing a responsible bird owner should be concerned about. Even if you get a bird known for talking, like an African grey or a Quaker, there is no guarantee that it will talk. Talking ability says nothing about the bird’s temperament or care. My Quaker was a rescue that was originally purchased for the species’ talking ability, but when he didn’t talk the family started to ignore him, when he screamed for attention, they put him in the basement, when he plucked his feathers they decided to do the best thing they ever did for him which was rehome him. That bird suffered because of the expectation that he would talk. Oddly enough, within 2 months of me having him he did start to say a couple things. Even when you can get a bird to talk, you can’t guarantee what they will say. The two things my Quaker picked up on are “Bobo” after my friend once called him Bobo the clown, and “get out” after I once told my dog to get out of the room. Why he mimics those two things that were literally only said in front of him once and not things that I say to him everyday is beyond me.

      Lets me real most people want a parrot that talks and that their main priority their not interested in the tricks and training like me i want a parrot that talks so i will be looking into species that have good talking ability im not really bothered about tricks or training .

    Thanks for your honesty when reviewing parrots in all of your videos. I'm one of those people that would like a small bird but one that can talk and be somewhat understood by the average person. Of course, being new to birds I want a bird that is not very "nippy", I don't want to have a fear of getting bit hard. I understand that there is a probability of getting bit but I'd like the odds to be good for not losing a finger, lol. What I would like most of all is a bird that is personable and likes to "just hang out" with its human and be relatively small. Talking would be a bonus but it isn't a deal breaker. I have tons of time but I don't want a bird that is very difficult to train or that bites hard or often. The more videos I watch, the more I'm not sure. I was thinking about a Linnie or a Parrotlet but they both also seem to not really talk much more than a budgie.?.? Any suggestions or advice? Please don't be afraid to have a clear favorite. Thanks for al your videos, great stuff that is very informative and entertaining. 👍

    P.S.: Add kakariki to this list! They too sound like dog toys, but they talk, and they are very friendly. Glad to see you back! I don't want to overstep, but if you're struggling with video ideas outside of bird reviews (since it's not breeding season and the bird shortage and all that) maybe you could do some parrot care videos? Like "Parrot products that are actually dangerous" or "Cage essentials" or bird proofing tips. Or maybe general bird content like "Birds you didn't know could talk" (corvids, starlings, etc.) if you'd be interested in the occasional non-parrot video. Again, I'm really sorry if I'm overstepping.

    • @Fivesaflock

      Those are great ideas! I have some in the works just the issue is I want to show a nice set up for video, but I'm in the middle of moving so things aren't super pretty. But I guess maybe I can just use pictures instead maybe. If you want videos like that, I'll just make do with what I can if that's cool. Let me know!

    Not every bird will talk even if they are known for talking.
    Please DON'T just get a bird because you want them to talk, you really need to like the species for all their other qualities too.!
    Birds that are known to talk, if the bird you choose from that 'talking species', DOESN'T talk it can lead to neglect because the only reason you choose that bird was because it could talk and that is unfair on the bird.

    • @Fivesaflock
      @Fivesaflock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Completely agree 100%. Talking is a bonus, not the selling point.

    • @JawadKhan-dn8ip

      U have to realise most people buy parrot because they want a bird that talks and that fine its their preference and just cuz a parrot does not talk does not mean they will neglect it they can just sell it buy new 1

    • @Beepbebeboop
      @Beepbebeboop ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JawadKhan-dn8ip yes I agree not everyone will neglect a non talking bird but you shouldn't get a pet JUST because it could talk. Talking in my opinion should be seen as a fun extra not a main thing. Also rehoming birds can be really traumatic for them because they form very strong bonds. When you buy an animal you are committed to them, rehoming them and buying a new one just because it doesn't do what you want is genuinely discussing.

    • @JawadKhan-dn8ip
      @JawadKhan-dn8ip ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Beepbebeboop well why not some people really want a talking bird and that their preference also their nothing wrong with rehoming bird if u dont want them anymore it does not matter about how strong the bird bond is what important its its saftey and care

    • @Beepbebeboop
      @Beepbebeboop ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JawadKhan-dn8ip yes but the fact people are rehoming their birds because they don't talk is discussing and shouldn't be normalised. There is a difference between rehoming your animal because you cannot provide adequate care and rehoming it because it didn't do what you wanted, it's a very self centred mentally. It's fine for people to want a talking bird but if it's to the point where they would just keep buying and rehoming birds until one talks, they shouldn't be owning birds.
