- SaGa Emerald Beyond might have one of the best turn based combat systems in an RPG. Loads of different weapons spread among skill types with their own tech tables. Several different races of characters with their own quirks in combat. Active defense bonuses, conditional techs, custom techs, blood techs, inherited techs, united attacks, showstoppers, overdrives, and more! Unlike many turn based RPGs that give a lot of options there are meaningful tactical reasons to use all these different techs and battle mechanics. In this video I attempt to unpack all of this and give my initial impressions of SaGa Emerald Beyond.

SaGa Emerald Beyond Will Be the Series' First Worldwide Release
Thank you for watching!
Does this game have romance?
So far this is the best breakdown of the gameplay I’ve seen. Be nice if other reviewers actually bothered to describe the mechanics beyond “it’s complicated and niche”
Only buying this game for Formina....
Finally some actual change in gaming.
Gun gal hell yeah!
She’s my favorite character on my play through so far ❤
Small addendum on Kugutsu's Mimicry: It says they learn through techs allies use, but they can also glimmer techs that enemies use too, meaning that with Kugutsu allies it could very well benefit you to go into tougher fights with humanoid enemies to see if they can potentially glimmer some stronger techs than you might have access to beforehand. This is a pretty great breakdown of the game's core combat mechanics though! I didn't realize you get double rewards at max BR, or the fact that worlds effectively have caps to how high that BR can go, which might make progression and optimization less of...I guess you can say a hassle than SG was.
That's interesting! I haven't started my Mido playthrough yet, but kugutsu sound like they're going to be pretty fun to work with. I'm still stuck on the boss of Diva's route. I think I juiced the BR way too high for my equipment levels.
I've played the Steam demo for 11 hours, which worked out fine bc Diva No.5 would have been my first pick any way, I love Mechs in SaGa, so she was an instant draw for me, if I wasn't already sold on this game. I can hardly wait for the launch, already purchased the game on Steam, just waiting now. The game really is a fun mix of two of my favorite games in the Series, SaGa Frontier and SaGa Scarlet Grace. I couldn't have asked for more from Kawazu.
SaGa 3merald Grace: id accept calling this that
I low-key like the sound of it too, but there is no Grace system in this game.
It sounds like Ameya might be a little lame... Both Diva and the other dude give you choices for the second world but Ameya felt pretty linear (so far)
Do you know how to glimmer dual wield techs? I have Formina with two guns but nothing has glimmered and no new roles. Awesome video by the way!
I believe you need to learn a special role to dual wield. I haven't learned the role myself, but that's what the game's tips section has led me to believe.
Late, but you'll need to get the handgun techs Bounding Shot and One for One to rank 3. This unlocks the guns blazing role, which when equipped unlocks the first dual wield tech (switch) and allows you to glimmer more
The story is so trash. going from world to world is so dead in concept. I love this game so much
I thought it was sheit. Started the demo, got to the first fight, game explains turns and energy, OK... And then doesn't matter because the guy ignores turns and kills me. What the fuck.
Tutorial loss for story is all. Ameya loses her power from that forced loss. Others don't have that problem.
lmao
Don't bother I heard this game is only digital and it's expensive to boot it's woke. lol
Lmaoo kid don't know how to use the word woke
@@coolsonic289 oh looky what we have here, if it isn't a sweet baby inc employee lol I think your the one that doesn't know how to use the word woke.
@@deusvlad2.083You're*
you are pathetic.
I played the demo, I didn't like it cause I didn't under stand the battle system. And after what you have explained I think I'll pass on this one.
If you can't understand the battle system, SaGa isn't for you. The complex turn-based combat is THE draw for these games.
if you can't understad this battle system.... I don't know what to tell you.
