in the 1986-1988 era when I lived in Smyrna, Hickory Hollow Mall was a very nice mall. Had a nice selection of stores. I learned wheelchair skills as a newbie wheelchair user there, including getting up and down an escalator. Bought a goodly amount of records, tapes, CDs, film, and more there.
I grew up going to this mall in the 80s. It was actually the first mall I can remember going to. I went there around 2003 when I was in Nashville for college, and you could tell she wasn't long for the world. Became a community center after that, and now, when I finish watching this video, I will see what's become of it today.
Lived in South Nashville , up 24 from this mall in the late 90s.
Went to it several times , it was very busy each time.
Opry Mills definately hurt this mall , but also the 24 / Bell Rd / Antioch area is very sketchy. I knew many people who stopped going there , as they didnt want their cars broken into in the parking lot.
Also...the whole Mall at Global Crossing scheme was a preficted failure. The mall effectively ended in 2012
Yep, in retrospect, I didn’t mention the crime aspect of the mall’s failure as much as I should have. Thanks for watching!
I moved out of Nashville in 2008 and the mall was unsafe to shop at then.
Unfortunately you could not get inside the mall to film, great narration of the history of this mall.
I lived really close to this when we first moved to Nashville in 2015 it smelled heavily of mold and I was just in disbelief of what happened and why
she was beautiful in 1989. I remember the glass elevator and the fountain like it was yesterday. All the clear light bulbs...
It became a crime infested cesspool. I once saw a hall vendor rob a customer. It was shocking and the cop backed it up
Hey I Like This Thing! It’s My Home!
You mentioned Stones River Mall in Murfreesboro was a competitor. Not really, I think you are thinking of the Avenue that opened in the fall of 2007 in Murfreesboro. That new open air life then center cause Stones River to become itself a dying mall.
True! I guess Stones River might have been somewhat of a competitor early on, but that didn’t last long. Hopefully I can get out soon and film there too.
@@BRFilmStudios Look into the history of Stones River Mall now called Stones River Town Centre. A free standing tiny Sears and non- supercenter Walmart became the mall in 1992. The mall basically connected the two only adding one additional anchor Goodys and a movie theater. Hickory Holllow was a giant compare to Stones River. Although, it has underwent a couple of remodels/expansions it has never been large in comparision to Opry Mills, Green Hills Mall, or Cool Springs Galleria.
Yeah, in reality the main downfall of Hickory Hollow was crime, which I didn’t talk about enough in retrospect.
