Why do wife beaters always say “I made a mistake” No, you make a million small choices in the act of DV. You get angry and don’t calm down, clinch your jaw, your fist, make threats, raise your hand, strike the person.. repeat… at any given moment you could have chosen to stop! NOT a mistake it’s a choice!

@gilbertbermea1435 Your comment suggests you identify with the abuser. People, usually women, who get in the cycle of domestic violence don't see a way out of their situation which is a direct threat to their own safety and well being. It is often poverty and knowing that you must provide for your kids. Many are locked into a situation where they are almost completely dependent on their own abuser to protect and provide for the children which are BOTH their responsibility anyway. Shame on you for blaming the woman who has had violence and the continual threat of violence for years put on her. No wonder she is beaten down and so tired. I'd like to add that our society contributes to this happening by not making child care available and by not paying equal wages for women. We need training programs for victims of domestic violence so they can get back on their feet and be able to provide for themselves and their kids without depending on a partner who is violent. I hope she finds her path and starts a new beginning for her family.

When I was 27, I faced one of the darkest periods of my life. I was struggling with addiction and had pushed everyone I loved away. One night, I found myself in the ER after an overdose. While unconscious, I had what I can only describe as a vision. It felt like I was floating in a vast, peaceful space, and a calm voice told me, "You have a purpose. Don’t waste this chance."
I woke up to the sight of a nurse who said, "You're lucky to be alive." I asked if anyone had been in the room, and she said no. For years, I kept this experience to myself, worried people would think I was crazy. But now, at 43 and sober for over a decade, I can confidently say that moment changed my life. It reminded me there’s something bigger out there and that second chances are real.
To anyone struggling, please believe this: hope is never lost. Keep fighting. ❤❤❤

I just love this judge. She knew that the defense wanted to blame the victim for her choice to move in with the defendant, even though he was very aware of the protective order against that. That's why she brought it up when talking to the prosecution because the defendant was using that sob story as an excuse to not follow the protective order. She wanted to cover that so that upon sentencing the defendant, she reminded him that he was very aware of the fact that it doesn't matter if the victim wanted to move in with him; he was still responsible for not following the protective order no matter what.

. In most jurisdictions, the victims impact statement is taken into consideration when sentencing is considered. Hearing the effect on the victim after sentencing is so unfair to the victim. I wouldn't bother.

Thems the rules. Protect your client and let the judge decide. If a defense attorney does it without the judge thinking she has a credible reason for interrupting, that leash to interrupt gets shorter and shorter. Just as it did for the prosecution when they kept trying to ask the same question in a different way that still wasn't allowed.

This one made me nervous, battered women don’t go from everything is perfect to being beaten up in one day, the abuser systematically isolates their partner, separating them from friends and family, in an effort to keep the peace the abused goes along with the emotional abuse to not upset them, it’s a chipping away process so by the time he was arrested and the protective order she didn’t have anyone to turn too, so he knowing she’s vulnerable extends the fake olive branch making her think he’s changed and will be a new man. She should not have gone to him for help, she should have gone to a shelter, but as we know all too often, CPS gets involved, takes the children and now everything is insane, it’s often impossible for a parent to get their children back, in this situation it’s plausible that the kids would have been sent to live with the father, and who knows what would have happened next.

The way he stared down his attorney at 9:30......complete lack of respect. Very ungrateful. Go to jail, crazy. An inmate who comes in with sleeves rolled up and an imposing attitude is very comfortable in prison. Thank you jduge.

His lawyer: "My client doesnt have an extensive criminal history..." It doesn't have to be "extensive" to be bad. It could be his first offense - it doesn't matter - what he did was wrong, in a big way. Lock him up. Extensively.
