Thanks, Desmond. I just switched from Lightzone on Windows to Darktable on Ubuntu and needed something to help me get oriented quickly. Very well done.
Desmond, thank you somuch for this tutorial and all the others. You do a fantastic job of clearly describing both your actions and the reasons. This very, very old programmer/photographer/videographer is constantly looking for ways to do things better without breaking the retirement bank and I've been playing around with DT for a few months now. I really like it. I'm using the Magic Lantern firmware on a 50D to do raw video, so this is where DT really comes to the forefront for me. Once again, thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos Desmond! The tutorials you are making are well articulated, easy to follow, stay on topic and flow nicely. I've been shooting for fun for about 3 years and recently decided to start shooting in RAW. I installed Darktable, opened it up, and felt completely overwhelmed! Like going from adjusting the settings on an iPod and then into a sound room with 100000000000 dials and knobs. Have you ever considered putting out a book on using this software?
Desmond, thank you so much for your tutorial. Very useful to me. Darktable looks great. I am very glad to know mask features. Don't know why the local editing (aka mask) feature is not available in Rawtherapee though.
Thanks David. Glad you got some use out of the tutorial. I would love to have a masking feature in Rawtherapee, but since I use both it and Darktable I make do. Each one is extremely powerful.
Thanks for your tut ! Very nice done ! One question however : How did you export the image at the end ? I have to switch to the lighttable view to see the export funtion... have you used a hotkey ? Keep up the good work ;-)
What is your recommendation regarding performing this editing Darktable vs opening the raw image in Darktable and then having it automatically opened in GIMP.

I'm very glad to hear the video was useful to you. I haven't done a tutorial in a while but I have a few ideas for new ones.
Very helpful video. Thank you!

Hi Mike. You are correct, I use "Ctrl + E" to export according to the parameters I preset in the export function.

Yes thank you veeeeery much!
Nice tutorial, thank you.
You are very welcome. Thanks for commenting.
Every change I do while working with a mask is applied globally. And once I switch modules it resets my changes. What am I doing wrong?
helped me also thank you
