Pure Hearts: Into Chinese Showbiz is widely considered as one of the worst Chinese movie ever. The director's name is now a nickname for bad directors in general. Why is that?
Some may consider this film to be a cult "so-bad-it's-good" movie, like the Room. I personally just think it's embarrassing and offensive. Why? Let's take a look.

The term is typically used to describe men who are not interested in pursuing long-term or committed relationships and instead prefer to engage in casual sexual encounters. The term is often associated with a negative connotation, implying that the man is dishonest or manipulative in his relationships with women.

MGTOW is going our own way and self fulfilment, not letting women dictate and control a man’s life and his society either. Incels are hopelessly obsessed with getting women to like them and are hopeless desperate who can’t get laid or even girls. MGTOW are literally formerly marrieds, sons of divorce-grapefruit fathers, and those with their eyes open and minds strong.

frome I.M.B.D Pure Hearts: Into Chinese Showbiz is the maiden work of Ph.D. Bi Zhifei, a 36-year-old director. It took him ten years to write the screenplay and to produce the movie. This is an unprecedented work where a bold decision was made to star 17 students learning in the Acting Department of eight the most prestigious Arts academies in China. The movie portrays the unforgettable pleasures and sorrows among a kind and earnest acting instructor and his 17 good-looking students after entering the showbiz during their four years of college.

Here in Philippines, we have films way way worse and too many trash to filter. Both Chinese and Southeast Asian films were great back in the old days. Now what happened?
Now we see Japan generating good shows both live-action, J-pop, and anime. Korean TV dominating Asia and a film eventually winning an Oscar.

I think it's good that you can pinpoint the worst Chinese movie because in the Philippines there are at least dozens of candidates for the worst Filipino movie and the list is getting longer every December of the year.

Some of the later movies from the MMFF "showstoppers" Vice Ganda (after Praybeyt Benjamin 1) and Vic Sotto (the Enteng Kabisote entries after "Enteng ng Ina Mo") were the worst Philippine movies ever produced. And don't get me started on Philippine television, some of it came from other TV stations like Bagani from ABS-CBN and Victor Magtanggol from GMA.

I'm curious, actually, what would be Chinese cinema's equivalent of "The Room"? As in, the best "bad" movie, it's so bad that the badness is what makes it so enjoyable?

Not quite. But if they continue doing mediocrity in production of films at a fast pace, they it may intensify further until it gets bloated and their value is depriciated just like the Video Game Crash of '83.
