Getting around to making this four years later. Bought some magnets for your Expanding Mechanism Lock Box, which only took two, and realized that the extra magnets would work for the egg. Thanks again, Angus.
If it took you countless weeks, it would have taken the rest of us life times. I loved your attitude about reviewing the CAD file. If you're not interested in the design, just move along.
Thanks for the great gift Angus, I know you spent a LOT of time designing, trouble shooting, printing and doing it all over again. I'm almost in tears just thinking about the scope of this gift you've given to all of us. Stay safe.
I think if nothing else there is one good thing that comes from this whole virus outbreak. All of the love and support that people are sharing for each other and local businesses and such is really heart warming.
I printed two of these eggs on my Prusa using ESun silk and they come up beautifully. ESun silk is a beautiful filament and substantially cheaper than Polyalchemy Elixir. A very well designed puzzle. I liked this so much that I became a patron.
Fantastic design! In all aspect I think you do a great job. I have learned so much from you since I started some 3-4 years ago. Thanks for a very nice easter present. I have bought some of your designs on your site as a little 'easter present' for you. Happy easter!

Angus, thanks for another awesome design. Your imagination is matched only by your modeling skill =). Printed this with 4 silk PLA's and it looks awesome. My daughters love the print.
Would be awesome if you could take this another direction and re-create a Faberge Egg with some delicate mechanisms to reveal an internal structure or other surprise.
Wow, thanks for not only giving us the printable files but the step files, too! Very kind of you to make your hard work available for free to the rest of us. :-) Stay safe!
A little trick I use to make assemblies with magnets easier is to create a "N/S" label inside the indent for the magnet, and I use a permanent marker to mark the N poles on all my magnets. This way you don't have to double check each magnet because everything is clearly labeled.
Hey thanks Angus. I printed two of them for my little Girls. They love it. By the way I made a point of supporting my favourite Restaurant Bambusia Bondi Junction- great old skill Chinese takeaway.
That's such a nice version of a toy I had over 30 years ago, I really like the use of magnets to hold the pieces in alignment, going to have to think about how I can use magnets in my own designs a lot more. If I can get those magnets I'll be printing a puzzle egg of my own. Cheers!
Awesome Gesture Angus! I'm at home with 4 kids and this will come in handy to keep them occupied for a bit. Thanks so much and absolutely brilliant design!
I really like your content in general. This time you really pushed it a bit further making this (shall I say "amazing") puzzle free. Thank you sir! Cheers from France!
Thanks Angus... we've been trying to order in at least twice a week to help our local businesses too. Two suggestions. 1. A pdf (or html) document with instructions. Angus, I was ready to pay for this design. I usually don't pay for models off the internet, but my son will love this. And you've done a lot of amazing work here to create it, it would be worth paying for. Since you gave it away for free, I decided to back you on Patreon. Just at the basic level, but every dollar (US or Aussie) counts, right? Happy Easter and stay safe.

Hey, Angus, just wanted to update you. My (adult) son loved his egg. He has a ton of cubes and other puzzles, so this was right up his alley. His (adult) sister, who doesn't do puzzles, played with it a little, and wanted one of her own. This really is a great model. Thanks for making it, and thanks for giving it away.
FINALLY! I was waiting for people to realize how amazing puzzles are. ;) You've done a great job there Angus! Puzzle design can be quite frustrating due to tolerances, so I'm impressed of how well you managed to implement that into your design by even earasing the need for supports completely. I'm looking forward to more puzzle designs on this channel!
Like it says on the money that some say makes the world go around, even though magnetics related to solar winds are the real reason why, in SCIENCE we trust.
Thanks for the great design Angus. Thank you for including the step files. made it easy for me to modify to suit the size of magnets I had. I did have trouble adjusting the clearance on outer parts where they slide on the inner rings. Using the push/ pull function in Fusion 360, did not work on that due to existing chamfers. Mind you half an hour with sanding paper and everything slides smoothly.
Amazing work! Thanks for all you have done for the community. I'm looking forward to learn more from your design :) Also great seeing what a fellow Sydney sider can do online.

Pretty neat Angus! :o) It may have a not-so-obvious use for some people; a few years ago, it became increasingly apparent that I was going to join the large group of people who live day to day with arthritis. At some point, I found the Rubik's Cube I had not laid eyes on for twenty years or more. Curious to see if I could still remember the nooby steps to solving it, I twiddled away while having my morning coffee. I failed to solve it, but I noticed that the "heat" that seems to build up in my hands when they are inactive had diminished. I bought a Speed-Cube (smooth action works better), and since then I "mix it" or "fix it" from time to time throughout the day... I think it helps. Your egg definitely looks like a good alternative! Many thanks.
Amazing work! As always thank you for the awesome video and the model looks fantastic! I'm a huge fan of your puzzles every year and this model couldn't come at a more pressing time for everyone. I'm looking forward to giving the print a try and report back with the results. Once again thank you, keep safe 👍
I have started making this, I have the centre shaft, end caps, and 6 of the sections so far, and everything is perfect, all slide smoothly and working very well. Magnets are on the way from an Australian supplier, the magnet holes are also perfect, my vernier shows the hole to be 5.90mm and with pressure grows to 6.01 so magnets should easily clip-in. So far brilliant, ;) when finished I will do more for family. Is there anywhere you would like us to post our finished egg pictures?
There be corona virus hidden in the easter egg hunt events, based on examining the news reports of types of people who want to downplay the pandemic. Awesome design. I'm going to build it today! What does "3 perimeters" in the instructions mean? Is that "wall thickness"? 2:47 you animation shows 2 btw.
Yeah, you can use 2 but 3 is recommended for strength and accuracy. I just did the animation to show the parts don't need support, didn't change any settings sorry :)
@@MakersMuse That's okay, was just making sure. I'm a fairly new 3d-printer and still learning. I found with wall thickness of 2 the infill shows in general, so 3 might be better :)
@@MakersMuse Hi again, I need some tips. I've printed the central column 2 times now (different color PLA and temps) but the small 'bumps' that lock into the top and bottom come out disfigured. When it's printing the small bumps curl up so they come out the wrong shape more or less. And whatever I do I can't rid of the curling up. Is the temp too hot? Too cold? This is frustrating because it bothers me with other prints as well. Also I have the idea it's different for different colors (same brand PLA).
@@remconet Definitely not enough cooling! Try reducing your print temp a bit if possible, and slowing the print speed down so the previous layer has time to cool. You can do this manually on the printer if you want to speed up the center part.
@@MakersMuse Thank you! I've done that. Also used adaptive layers in Cura. It prints the bumpy parts at 0,1 now and the long center shaft at 0,3. Also slowed down to 10 mm/s for outer wall (and 20 mm/s in the middle bit). The cooling could still be better. I can tell it's the open (uncooled) bit that's the worst area. I appreciate your help so thanks!
Or, if the part still doesn't quite slide as nicely as it should on the other parts, Graphite could help to a degree to help it spin more freely, and move more freely.
