Don Miller is my great grandfather :) it's wild seeing him on tv. He was also a prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials, and from what my grandmother and mother have told me, he was an amazing role model, and an even better man.
I remember Donald Rondeau around the year 1988. I'd once heard he had a very public singing career, but never thought too much about it. I'm happy to hear this so many years later. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE VOICE. I'm surprised he didn't go much farther. When I knew him he was an older , tall, and burley sort of man, who'd purchased the truck stop ( Exit 3 Truck Services, Inc. in Greenland, NH) I'd been working at. He was anything but retiring and was very direct. I have to say that I liked him very much as well as his business manager Alice Walsh.
In Game 2, #2 and #3 didn't seem to remember the location of Paramount Studios. It is on Gower (since 1926), and it was (and still is) the only film studio to actually be in the town of Hollywood.
I saw Lenny Welsh some years ago and asked why he didn't sing his beautiful version of "two different worlds" He said it was Don Rondos song. Then I found myself looking up Don Rondo
Anyone starting to notice that Polly Bergen sometimes tries to grab all the attention? She is still likable and was a gorgeous woman. Jerry Coleman was a patriot and an extremely brave man being a fighter pilot in WWII and Korea. He was also a decent player for the Yankees. He was a great broadcaster for several teams. All the contestants from the 2nd game were very handsome women no matter what their ages were. Thanks for the video.
Gerry Coleman looks like Rod Serling. When did they stop having Bud collect the cards and just have the panel show them and explain why they voted that way?
When I was 10 years old, 1962, I recieved a record player for my birthday. But I had no records yet. Then my grandmother gave me about 10 45s records. Don Rondo was in the mix with " White silver sands " and " Stars fell on Alabama". Very nice voice. I had that record for54 years until a fire destroyed it ....bummer.
*SPOILER ALERT* I enjoyed this--but it was incorrectly titled--because the real former Miss America did *not* have that title in 1927, but in 1940--and contestant #3 could well have been Miss America that very year, as she was still a knockout!
Jerry Coleman retired from the Yankees in this year (1957), and I guess from selling clothing in the winter, as he went on to becoming a baseball scout for the Yankees and ultimately well known and respected announcer for a the Yankees, California Angels, and lastly, San Diego Padres. It was not unusual for MLB players to have winter jobs in those days. Carl Furillo, for example, was a construction worker and worked in a deli.
That's the same Jerry Coleman!!???? I knew there was a Jerry Coleman that announced for the Padres and made so many malapropisms. "He slides into second with a stand up double." "Rich Folkers is throwing up in the bullpen." "If (Pete) Rose's streak was still intact, with that single to left, the fans would be throwing babies out of the upper deck."
The headline/description is wrong. It simply should have said "Miss America" without giving a spoiler. The "Miss America" contestant was/is Frances Marie Burke, who won the pageant in 1940. As of December 1, 2016, she is still alive. She is 94 years old. She was married to Lawrence Kenney for over 50 years.
Asked a year ago, but it's exactly what it sounds like: two semi circles in the shape of an S. The purpose is for establishing ground reference. (Often attempting to view a road beneath you on each pass.)
This is weird. Read up on Jerry Coleman's life. He's a thousand times more interesting than Don Rondo. A Colonel, fighter pilot in two wars, baseball rookie of the year and all star for the Yankees. Played on 6 world series teams, all before he was on that show. And he had a regular job in the winter. Things certainly have changed.
He also afterwards coached the Dan Diego Padres for a year and was the Padres radio announcer for decades. My mom had a crush on him when she was a teenager.
Coleman aged quite well in his later years - didn't even recognize him here. He appeared on occasion on the Yankee's YES Network during the Derek Jeter years. I remember looking him up then...among athletes who served in combat, arguably only Ted Williams is on par with Coleman. His resume is off the charts. Agree, Coleman's life should have been the one highlighted here, not Don (Who?) Rhondo.
Col. Jerry Coleman always said he was more proud of his career in the USMC than anything else. As both a Yankees fan, and later also a Padres fan, I loved the guy. God Bless and RIP, Colonel.
There is an error in the title of this video. The Miss America featured here is the 1940 crown, not 1927. Please correct it, as it is misleading. Thank you.
24:15 Bud Collyer: Number 2, Who are you really? My name is Jerry Coleman, In the winter, I work for The American Shops Clothing Store in New Jersey, and in the summer, I play in the infield for the New York Yankees.
Yeah. It's hard to believe that big league ball players were so underpaid in those days that they had to have a winter job. Nowadays the minimum salary is well over $500K.
SaveThe TPC Not in its original form. ;) The "K" is not silent in "Knut" which is the most common form in Norway (his mother was Norwegian) and "Knud" in Denmark, where it also is (was) a name of kings. The name means among other things, "Daredevil", "Courageous" and even "Naughty". ;)

I wonder why he collects the ballots, instead of letting the panel read their own. Other episodes the panel reads their own and why they chose as they did.
The rules are more fair when each panelist only has a certain time to ask questions. Not as in WML where they could ask 10 questions knowing they get a "yes".
The current TTTT is classless compared to the original TTTT. America has lost its way. We have low IQs and little culture. Why producers didn't elect to use the old venue is beyond me and defies logic. Additionally, Bud Collier was super smart and quick witted all the while minding the clock for live TV!
She seems like a total dip on these shows. It's likes she enjoys hearing her own voice and trying to be funny and apparently thinks (thought) that the audience enjoys (enjoyed) it too. NOT!
oldfart4751 I got it right because number 2 had such tremendous grace about her. Also, when questioned they each gave plausible answers judging by how old they looked for the years they were supposedly Miss America.
Number one was miss America 1927, the others said another date , the post said 1927, I was going to vote for two until she got 1927 wrong!!! Who posted 1927???
Interest level, for me, definitely depends a great deal on the topic for the segments, not true of WML, which is much more uniformly entertaining for me.
+To Tell the Truth (CBS) I agree. I couldn't find myself getting too worked up over any of the three rounds here. But what I meant was that the panel's questioning elicited incorrect votes at least as often as correct ones. (And by the way--for anyone who cares--none of the women in the first round claimed to be "Miss America, 1957," but rather a past Miss America; the oldest claiming to have held the title in 1927.)
519DJW I base all the descriptions for the videos on a log I found online. I haven't been able to watch them in advance like I did with WML. Unfortunately, this means there have been countless errors along the way. I'll correct the title-- though I generally haven't put a lot of effort into making these corrections because it's too much to keep up with! Anyhow, thanks for the correction in this case.
This show is the best and most fascinating fun I have ever seen, totally addictive. Bring it back before we all go insane under Buyden. In fact they should put Buyden on "which is the real Joe?" or for those of you who are really Q'd, "who is the real president?"
Yup. We get our father's name when we're born, mom wiped out, and married off as property of husbands, with their names. People don't stop and think how outrageous it was/is. We just don't exist.
Thank heavens they got rid of that STUPID music!! and the Miss America Contestants; #2 was sworn to tell the truth, but she lied. She said she was Miss America in the 40's (or something like that). Just kidding hehe
The ladies look beautiful! Great to see the brilliant Glen Ford in this show, a truly legendary actor.

He spells it " Rondo".
Amazing to see Glenn Ford here especially considering he was still a major movie star at this time !!!
One can sure tell "Bud" had/has a heart of Gold. 💛
I remember Don Rondo from local TV commercials he did here in New Hampshire until his passing from lung cancer in 2011.
I think of him from "White Silver Sands"...

Back when baseball players needed a second job
Love it when the panelists miss and they all pick the wrong challenger.
Gerry Coleman looks like Rod Serling.

Coleman's interest in aviation came from his time as a Marines fighter pilot.

Valley of the Rogue she is now deceased and was married to him for 72 years.
Yes it is, saw it yesterday.
The title said Miss America 1927 but number 2 stood up and the only one who said she was Miss America in 1927 was number 1
The heading here is a bit misleading because the Miss America contestant was from 1940. Each claimed a different year.
20:00 The Concorde (defunct since 2003) wouldn't exist for 12 years (first flown in 1969; introduced in 1976).
Great stuff!

Don Rondo had a sensational voice and I wish he had had more opportunities in the 60s.

I totally agree ...
I went directly to look him up. Amazing no one new him. Helluva man right there!
I thought it would be #2 in Game 1, because #1 and #3 were incorrect about George Gipp's final year being 1919; it was 1920.

Is the show that featured the first female cameraman (woman) on here somewhere? It would be 1966 or after. Betty Chadwick-Sullivan

Polly Bergen is a singer!!!
She was an under-rated beauty, too. :)
She seems like a total dip on these shows. It's likes she enjoys hearing her own voice and trying to be funny and apparently thinks (thought) that the audience enjoys (enjoyed) it too. NOT!
Darrell Dawson Not a good singer though.
It seems that Mrs. Lawrence A. Kenney was Miss America 1940, not Miss America 1957. (Her real name was Frances Marie Burke.) She is 93 now.
Frances Burke, if I am not mistaken, was the first Miss America to be crowned at Convention Hall in Atlantic City, right?
She is 94 now.
Susan Nunes Sadly she passed away last month, March 7, 2018.
Marek Ryćko Sadly she passed away last month, March 7, 2018.
"A good man can do it in 2 hours" LOL
Hy sounds dubbed pr like a different person in his intro! A deep, "My name is Hy Gardnerr" rather than the spritely normal, "Hy Gahdnah!"
1927? The winner was Lois Delander Lang.
That was a cunning plot to put Miss America 1927, I thought it was number 2 but went with Number 1 because of the title.
The person with this channel needed to put simply "Miss America" in the title. Frances Burke Kenney definitely wasn't any Miss America 1927.
1940 number 2, number 1 said 1927 a misleading title. I bet most got it wrong because of the title.
Miss America 1927 was Lois DeLander.

Ronnie, the same thing happened to me, although I would have picked #3. I thought the other 2 got the year wrong and it had to be #1 when they did.
16:53 Bern Bennett: What is your name, please?
My name is Don Rondo.
Betty " Butch" Furness was a hottie
They didn't get a years supply of Geritol !!!!
Actually she was Miss America in 1940.
It's absurd to say this one-paragraph affidavit is "the whole truth."
Where's Don Rondo?
I got Don Rondo right before any questions. Just googled him. Is that cheating?
From the introduction it would seem this was the first episode of the show??
I think this episode was very good support for the argument that "To Tell the Truth" was one tremendous crap-shoot!
