I can remember seeing them open up for Nine Inch Nails in Dallas when their first album came out and ppl just standing there with their arms crossed looking bored. A lot of people at the time were pissy about Maynard playing with another band than Tool.
APC was in a really shitty/strange spot when they dropped onto the scene. You had diehard Tool/Maynard fans who were butthurt they didn't get a new Tool Album. They were also really worried/angry that Tool MIGHT be fully disbanded. Then you had the shitty Christian evangelicals (as always w/ the unholy quadrinity of the nineties, which was Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, and White Zombie) who would protest/call into any show that or radio station that played any of those bands. So although APC found a new, more mainstream Alternative Rock Audience... it was an uphill battle getting diehard fans to listen to them, and to get the Christians to back off lol... especially after Judith climbed up the charts.
