Unless u were 19 or 20 back then and got to see them every weekend at the Basement or Joe's garage, u will never know how great and cool this band was. To have hung out afterwards and partied with them is 1 of my life's greatest memories. RIP Bros.
For years me and my good friend have always said we we're born 10 years too late to have seen the whole of the 80's metal experience. If only we could travel back in time. If so I would not be in Newcastle, England in 1988. I would be in Dallas Texas watching pantera before they were cowboys.
yes he does! he missed the following chords before the solo and corrected it very quickly!! anyway, that only proves that he was human and not from another planet! :P :D
YO!!!!! That dude at 4:56 doesn't even TRY to land that stage dive!!!!! That is the greatest thing EVER DUDE! Holy shit! He screams too it's the besssssst
Hell yeah this is the #Pantera I know and love -- when they were playing the really fucking heavy for the first time; you see the evolution of Pantera in this performance. Where Diamond becomes Dimebag and Rex Rocker becomes Rex Brown. Pantera becoming a 1990s thrash metal act and see them become what I know them as in the 1990s. You old school fans you saw something special here -- I didn't understand you guys but seeing this you are seeing history here. This is where Pantera becomes fucking heavy. It was that chance meeting with Kerry King they were pulling this off where it rivals Slayer. The friendship with Slayer started in this era then eventually Dimebag a member of Anthrax.
They were groove not thrash, groove is a branch of the thrash tree Exhorder helped build which is who influenced Pantera to change styles when Phil played the boys a cassette.
CharlieEst1981 The two genres are interchanged because Anthrax and Overkill toys with Groove Metal too. I know that death was the first to branch from this, Industrial Metal and Groove came about the same time as Trouble's current vocalist was Exhorder's throat man. I need to check them out -- Exhorder influenced my friend's band in Iowa as they were a thrashy groove metal outfit with Coal Chamber vocals. Musically Pantera/Anthrax
Groove's a dumb name. All music has a groove in it. "Groove" metal is just thrash metal with an emphasised groove. You can thrash around and wake up sore to in the exact same way as "thrash" metal. Come to remind myself, all genres denominations are ridiculous and should be ignored in order to fully appreciate all music. It's taken me years to do that. Just 2 cents of mine.
you have to put cowboys from hell into context to what was about in 1987 which is when they started to play some of the songs from that album at there early live gigs there was nothing and i mean nothing like at that time it must of blew peoples minds that were at the gigs i had the pleasure of seeing pantera twice in the early 90s and they are to this day the best 2 gigs ive ever been to but seeing these guys in a small club must of been awsome i dont have a fav album they are all good period
We should not ever fight each other ! We should not be against each other ! WE SHOULD ALL BE TOGETHER !! That was one the best speech i ever heard ! R.I.P. Darrell Lance Abbott a.k.a. Dimebag !
@ItWhoSleeps Cowboys From Hell was released in 1990. So obviously by 1989 they had already written many of the songs that would later appear on Cowboys From Hell.
dude thanks so much for posting these videos. they reveal so much about pantera. i always wondered what they sounded like in between power metal and cowboys from hell.. its weird... they changed a lot but you can still see the transition between a song like death trap and this song.
Dude this is some old school shit right here. You need to get this shit on disc and sell it. These are rare concerts no one ever see's.Good video and audio.
@ItWhoSleeps I honestly couldn't say, I haven't seen this whole show. But if I had to bet, I would say yes, but maybe just two or three songs. And I can't find it anywhere on the net.
I miss stage diving!!! I miss the Pit!! Getting old SUCKS!!! Atleast I have the memories of being Invincible! Live it up Kids it Doesn’t last forever....
If a friend of yours would start doing heroin...would you help him out of this hell? You would...no matter how much it would piss him off. But no member of Pantera had the balls to tell the mighty Anselmo to quit with this fucking shit...
@blerbele632 Dude....they spent every day together. HOw could they didnt know? And: I got more than a few shows on DVDs...you could tell when he wa on...trust me.
@kierandoyle1992 some theunder ground concert's iv been to have been big mosh pit wall of death cycle pit stage dive's people playing with the band on stage people passing the mic to like 200 people lol but pantera is the best at it all.

Pantera in the 80s are always a good sight to see
The guitar solo that inspired me to play guitar =]
Mine is Alex Skolnick from Testament Over The Wall
Dimebag never stops amazing me.
I would love to have seen them right at this time... hearing both the old stuff and the stuff about to come out. So awesome
"YOU WANNA HEARD FUCKING HEAVY FROM PANTERA......
THIS IS WANNA CALL DOMINATIOOOOONN ........"
MAKING HISTORY
I saw them a year later right when CBFH was released in NYC at The Cat Club. Phil had a long mohawk, I'll never forget that.
The transition from Glam to Thrash!!!
Phil Anselmo had better headbang than Corpsegrinder and Corey Taylor together
He should keep the longhair
Wasn't ready for the pre recording ending lol
Ok
phil jumping in the stage since 1989 ( only 21 years)
yes he does! he missed the following chords before the solo and corrected it very quickly!! anyway, that only proves that he was human and not from another planet! :P :D

Dawn of a new PanterA!!! Out with the old in with the new!!! Or shall we say "Out of the DARKNESS AND INTO LIGHT!!"
You don't know what you're talking about. Power Metal, the album prior to Cowboys is just as heavy as their albums after it. Far from "glam".
@ymiappf Thanks bro!!! Man oh man how I wish I was at this show.
@ItWhoSleeps I honestly couldn't say, I haven't seen this whole show. But if I had to bet, I would say yes, but maybe just two or three songs. And I can't find it anywhere on the net.
And you could drink at 18 in the 70's and early 80's

@philip21786 Haha! Thanks bro! I bet we could ask Phil himself, but he's probably did too much heroin to even remember he was even on Power Metal.
@ItWhoSleeps Look at his arms, they're not covered in tattoos.
