  • This pattern had been modified to have a drawstring too closure as well as be convertible from a backpack to a shoulder bag. You don't need a lot extra to the original pattern! The only extra parts your need are: instead of 2 strap connector tabs you need 5, you need 1 square ring and 4 d rings (instead of just 2 rings) and they eyelets/grommets.
I now have a sewing group on facebook that yo can come and ask questions or requests videos on patterns. / seamslegitsewing
To get this pattern here is the link: swoonpatterns....
Interfacing used was: for the outside - Formfuse 1600 by Charles Parsons bought at Spotlight
for the inside - Birch non-woven heavy iron on interfacing, for the base - Heavy backing (craft tex would also work, or a thin plastic) bought from spotlight.
Vinyl is an upholstery weight vinyl ( i got mine from a closing down upholsterer) and fabric was from a small quilting store when I went on holiday to Perth.
Hardware and zippers are from www.seamslegit.com.au
Rivet press, and dies for rivets and grommets can be purchased from Green Beans Australia. gbau.com.au/me...
Hole punch from Bunnings - www.bunnings.c...
Grommets/eyelets are from bunnings. you can get the hammer on tool from the tool section of bunnings, and the gold grommets are also there.
Rulers used are from the quilting section of spotlight.
Friction pen - I purchased mine from Woolworths, but also sold at Officeworks -www.officework...
Thread used in this video is a 40 weight and can be purchased over the phone from Sewing Trade in Townsville. David and Josh are really genuinely great people!!! - www.sewingtrad...

I can't believe you have Woolworth stores in Australia, we used to have them here in the United States, but they all closed down back in the late eighties or early ninety's. I loved that store.

Great job, must give this one a go. I did the same as you and visited a local upholster and asked if he had off cuts and if he's be willing to sell to me (If you don't ask you don't know). He was happy to oblige and I'm a happy bag maker, better the money in his pocket and it helps a small local business.

Girl you’re gonna burn your bearings out. I’m still working on the Lola bag. No 2 and 3 but my Singer Industrial is being worked on as we speak. She’s old 65 years and tired. But like me a little lubrication and she’s up and running again. Job well done on your videos. Thank you for sharing. Look forward to them.

I would either use larger grommets or skinnier vinyl, and don't use a shiny style vinyl. They are known for being sticky

What are the best machines for someone who is just starting out making bags? Someone who's not ready to invest hundreds of dollars but would still like a machine decent enough and capable of sewing through vinyl and cotton like this? All help and ideas are appreciated.

Hi Tori, love the bag. When you put the lining pieces on the inside and the outside did you cut that piece from the main bag panels when you cut the pattern out. Im nearly finished the bag and wanted to make it a drawstring but I think I will have to try another one as I have sewn the sides up and totally forgot it. Anyway keep these great videos coming xx

I notice that you have a contrast panel a the top of the bag that isn’t in the original pattern, how wide is it?? Then just add seam allowance to both contrast and main panel and sew them together to make the side panel??
