    West End and East End, are two large areas of Central London. Traditionally, the West End was rich, powerful, was full of important buildings and was lived in by extremely rich and powerful people, whilst the East End of London was poor, working class, industrial and always housing a large immigrant community, from the middle ages, to the present day. West End Girls and East End Boys would meet each other in the clubs, pubs and bars, of Central London, in something of a culture clash, but a welcome one. :)

    • @Exarathas
      @Exarathas หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not only by the “extremely rich”… please get your facts straight. The West End was just more wealthy than central London or the east end.

      No, 1985. They wrote the song in 1983 and it went through a heck of a lot of remixes before this one, which was finally a hit.
      A version was released in 1984 but it disappeared without trace.

    The Pet Shop Boys were a British Techno-Pop/Urban Contemporary music duo. The lead singer was formerly an architect, and his partner was formerly a music critic. Both of them were dissatisfied with the type of music coming out in the London music scene, and decided to make their own music, with their own unique musical vision. I am sure that The Pet Shop Boys were very surprised that this song became a big hit here in the US.

      1. Are, not were.
      2. The lead singer was a music journalist, the keyboard player followed an archtect course but never as one.
      3. They met in a music store and discovered they had the same taste, in particulair Bobby Orlando. Who the lead singer later had a chance to because of his job meet and that lead to them making their first single.
      4. It didn't become a hit at all when they first released it in 1984, only the re-released version made by another producer in 1986 (this one) became a hit.

    This song was released in late 85 in the USA.
    There is the poster for the movie Desperately Seeking Susan starring Rosanna Arquette and Madonna on the box office where the people are waiting in line in the music video. This movie was released in March 85 in the USA but in late 85 for the UK.
    React to their songs Suburbia and It's A Sin please.

    Enjoyed your reaction Guys and I will be inside that SAME Train Station in South East London tomorrow afternoon visiting a London Girlfriend.
    I moved from that area in 1983 to The South East London Suburbs which is lovely and safe but I miss the vibe and bustle of 8 Million Londoners every day and I moved 38 years ago now. That Number 42 Bus used to go down my High Street !
    it's impossible to see London's 60,000 + streets and over 100,000 "Tourist attractions" in one lifetime, my friend.

    When this song came out in 1984, I lived in a town where the east end was the bad part of town and the west end was the rich kids. I lived in the east end and there were girls in the west side that liked the bad boy image but not many.

    Britain had a government that at the time, put money and finance over traditional industry leading to high unemployment in the working population. London as a world financial trade centre, saw many educated and capable young women entering the stock market and other finance organisation's. The song is about working class boys, a bit of rough, making out with rich middle to upper class girls in the expensive west end clubs of London in the 1980's
