This would have been a lot more impactful if theyd just show his face here. Like it makes sense and seems like a perfect moment to reveal it
Agreed. I understand not wanting to show it since they didn’t want to detract from Rose’s story, but honestly it was more distracting to me than anything else. They already took the time to animate the face, feels like a waste by cutting to all these awkward camera angles

I was under the impression they would finally show Ethan’s face as a sendoff to the character. To see him through Rose’s eyes would have been the perfect opportunity.

It's so funny bc the whole world already knew Ethan's face for ages, just acknowledging it formally for once hurts nobody, especially through his daughter's story would be so much more meaningful

Well think about like this… our first introduction of Ethan has always been in first person. We identify him because he’s the only character in RE where his face is never shown. That’s kinda how we distinguish him from other RE characters. It’s like removing master chief’s helmet.

Rose meeting Ethan was the appropriate time to reveal Ethans face if they ever were going to. Kind of disappointed that Capcom didn't decide to go that route as a surprise for players who go through Shadows of Rose for the first time after completing Village. Especially since after completing Shadows of Rose it felt a little lack-luster once I saw the ending was basically the same ending twice.
The ending is the same because this dlc is supposed to lead up to that point, so I don't know why you were expecting it to be different

@@thewanderer6984 It might've disappointed you and the other. But this is the explanation what was happening when Rose and the Agent were in the car and the end of road it stopped. The ending might will be continue on the next DLC. This one DLC isn't took really long because it's the same map just a lil bit modifications. Well who knows what's going to happend next. For me this one DLC has a really deep story about Father and daughter's reunion only even a moment. And it was the actual ending, so capcom did put back the old ending just to gathered the plot.
Next one might will be bigger than this.

It's impossible Rose could remember her father, Chris might tell her about him but still. Rose still can't imagine how he was. And this one DLC is explanation for that. How Rose really confident when saying
*"I can show you what Chris doesn't know I can do."*
And plus, don't forget to concern where is Mia. And why did Rose said she hadn't see her in ages. Which they got separated by someone's decision.

Nah but in the third person mode you can pan the camera so much so that it shows about the whole side of his face. And he basically looks exactly like this model if u were to turn it to the sife
@@tg.tyrant2302_ So far, the best way to see his face that I've found is to turn the camera toward him in third person mode right when the strung up crow at the beginning starts to flail.

It'll never not be weird that Ethan's face being hidden in Village is more of a gag; in Biohazard you play in 1st person, so there isn't a reason to see his face. However, you CAN see it in some cutscenes (the Evie flashbacks near the end of the game, when Mia comes to rescue Ethan). What is the reason to hide his face now? I always thought it was because by Village, his face looked less human or something, considering he is an advanced Molded. But his face is...relatively similar to the previous game. Funnily, they don't bother to animate his mouth unless the player can see it? Like in Village's new third person, where you can sorta see the side of Ethan's face while healing.

Hope I’m wrong of this but notice the lack of eye blinking animation of his face, indicating that he was not designed to have his face divulged officially by the developers themselves. I wish it does for him, but clearly only his mouth that animates.
@@TheJassJournals His face should have been shaded to black with a scary eyes to begin with by developers, fitting for a horror game as a whole for hacking it just to see that as an Easter egg like looking at Master Chief’s face at the first game.

I understand the whole no-face protagonist thing they were going for with Re7.
But with the end of Village and an end sequence this from the DLC, I just feel sad with all the missed potential! We often connect to characters if we can see their emotions, and it has always bothered me in Village that we can't see Ethan's face.

It goes to prove just how powerful showing a face with facial animation can be. Teenage rose only appear one time in resident evil 8 ending and dlc and she already have a very strong personality which overshadow her father who appear two times in two resident evil games. All because capcom refuses to show Ethan winters face with facial animations.
Eh, I wouldn't say her personality grew beyond his for the entirety of Village. But, showing his face certainly would have been a big moment here.

I'm still salty that Capcom decided to troll us all until the end with regards to Ethan's face. Sure, they didn't fully render the graphics, but his facial expressions are still there. The ACTING of Todd Soley's motion capture performance is still there. Todd acted his ass off, his expressions are still so visible here.
Not only did Capcom rob of us of seeing it in-game, but they also denied Todd of showing us a masterful delivery. Bad decision, Capcom. Idiotic even.
This is so weird because I didn't even know they were hiding his face the first time I played this, I had an FOV mod installed so it unintentionally showed his eyes and entire face.

@@TheJassJournals Its literally an option, it doesn't hurt the game in anyway but improve it for people who have motion sickness and prefer it. If you don't thats absolutely fine hence the option.

I was waiting for someone to take control of the free camera to be able to see the facial expressions and also Ethan's face although it continues to be shocking / funny when in the moments where he does not speak his face remains static lol, Capcom has been able to see the tricks that the fans do should have noticed that detail because it seems that our man has paralysis or that he handles the shot with his mind like in 3:57 lol

I don't know if it's just me, but I think the reason why they don't show his face is because Capcom may have plans for him to return in re9 (probably not as the main playable character). I say this because, why does he show up at the end of re8? That mold that was left behind could have maybe let Ethan make his body. Now this is probably a long shot of a guess, but hey, anything could happen right?

It rly makes me sad that the Winters Saga is supposed to end now. But I’ve a big question: What is about Mia? We never received any kind of informations about Mia after Ethan’s death and after the events of Shadows of Rose. When it’s supposed to be the end now, what happened to Mia? 😯
My exact thoughts. Mia is just gone like that. We didnt get to know more about her. And its weird how they make the ending the same as the village one. I just love the winters saga sm i dont want it to end 😭
@@okurrrrrr6583 I absolutely agree. They made an epic finish about Rose and Ethan. They also made a Happy End on Mia and Ethan in RE7. But the only role of Mia in RE8 was sitting in jail and waiting for Chris to rescue her. That cannot be. For me, the Winters Saga is not finished yet unless we know more about Mia. But maybe she’s included into Chris’ BSAA, I mean she was originally a worker of Umbrella transporting Eveline “safely” to destination. So who knows, maybe her story continues. 🤷🏻♂️
Edit: Capcom does a lot of stupid things, like DMC5 and not bringing any fan support. So who knows or maybe it stays a miracle forever.

@@metroplex29 Yup apparently. They usually just bring one timers. It rly is a huge surprise to me that we got this DLC, but on the other hand I think it had tactical reasons. This extinguishes the Winters Saga and they can focus something different, which is sad, cause I definitely wasn’t fed on it. I was hyped for it.
Edit: The DLC itself is super fast to play through. Just did a hardcore run in 1,5h. Ikr it’s much faster possible in half of the time, but I tried to enjoy and explore the DLC for a second time. 😂 I skipped most of the mobs and had like 20 shotgun shells left after I beat Miranda’s ass.

Not gonna lie - I strongly disliked Ethan in RE 7. Capcom did such good work developing the character in Village and the DLC.
His send-off made me tear up a bit. I loved it when he showed up as the gold-message-writing "Michael," but we all knew it was Ethan.
How I hate this whole topic of "associating" the player with the character by hiding the face of the character himself. Especially here, when Rosa sees her father for the first time, it was just the perfect moment to show her face. This moment would make it much more possible for the players to "associate" themselves with Rosa, since she, like the player, will see Ethan for the first time (I'm not considering the fact now that almost everyone saw Ethan's face, because it would still be useful to officially show it, and not force players to hack the game's camera).

Really sad that the Winters saga will end. The games (RE7 & RE8) were one of my favorite Resident Evil games, really wish Capcom could continue the story though.
Also, I'm really confused on what happened to Mia. Why did Mia left Rose though? I mean, she's Rose's mother, they didn't even gave us clues to know what happened to her. Like seriously, what happened to her?

By seeing Ethan's face is amazing and I hope that maybe someday they'll think about having a chance to use his face for the next Resident Evil maybe 9!
If RE9 continues Rose's story, it'll be in 2037 or after, so classic characters like Chris, Leon, Claire, Jill would be rather old by then, being in their late 50s to early 60s.
I kinda hope they'd show the fact through Rose's eyes in first person at the end illuminated by the bright and soft sunlight before everything ended.
The fact that they are STILL hiding his face is just a farce by now. They literally didn't take the time to properly animate it. You can't even see it in the 3rd person mode for Village, he turns away if you rotate the camera. Capcom hat over a YEAR to animate his face, but they didn't do it. This has nothing to do with a running gag or not ruining the immersion, this is just lazyness. Shame on you, Capcom. Ethan deserved better.

You really think it’s because they couldn’t properly animate his face???? It’s properly animated in cutscenes in village if you use mods and go outside the camera. It’s purely an artistic choice by the developers not laziness.

I loved playing through this dlc, only upsetting thing to me is that there is no unlockables or anything like that.
God dang the I it thing that disappointed me was the fact that they didn't reveal his face and that would have made the experience so much more heart wrenching
They bothered animating most of the facial expressions and him speaking with emotions showing on his face at times. I'm just speculating here but capcom might have actually planned a reveal but changed it for unknown reasons.. maybe for continuation but with or without the reveal, that last moment with Ethan and Rose was still executed well.
