    What did I understand?
    1. Step back and ask yourself
    :
    a) Why are they doing that? What could be the reason that they are doing so? Don't make it about you. Make it about them. Think.
    b) What is it that they know that you don't?
    c) What is it that is possibly driving them that has nothing to do with you?
    d) What is their personal agenda that you don't know about?
    e) Create those possibilities in your head. Whenever you are facing that issue, apply these possibilities and find which one could it be?
In most cases, you are not the center of the case, & you are not the part of the case. You are over-imagining the things.
    2. Systematic vs. Individual led office politics.
    a) Will the top most leader in the organization also behave the same way?
    b) Will they be happy or sad or indifferent if they got to know whats going on?
    c) Situation 1: If what you are going through is in conflict with how the leader behaves, then it's individual driven.
    Resolution: Whistle blow.
    d) Situation 2: Otherwise, it is the systematic led,
Resolution: Its the time to divert your efforts to something greater good.
    3. Ask yourself whether this is aligned to the values you live by?
If you think that you'll think in the future that you've always knew you cannot fix it and yet you continue trying to fix it, then everything you've done is wrong.
    4. Don't indulge yourself in rumours. You will be a part of the problem then.
Disclaimer: This summary will mislead you if you don't watch the complete video. I am not responsible for any such misinformation.
Copying & reusing this comment in any manner is strictly prohibited.

      Wise words @warikoo
I think one old saying kind of helps in gaining perspective. "Nobody is the villain in their own stories". Just putting yourself in the other's shoes is so much more solution oriented than bitching which most people resort to.
@warikoo what would be your advice to leaders who have unintentionally created systems which encourage such behaviour?

Number one rule in corporate: if it is not written in a mail or chat, it is as good as it is not being said at all. I had a boss who tried to blame me for slow performance and me not delivering. But I was just waiting for people to send me files or sth.
One day in one of the team meetings, I told him, how can I do my job if I do not have required input. He got angry and fumed.
And complained to senior manager about me. And then I laid out all the evidence, and that boss who blamed me for everything got fired.

I'm so sick and tired of all this, When you call out the dirty politics you're tagged as not a team player, there's always a loyal dog of boss who's ready to do all the dirty work for the boss and is favourite, does very little but is safeguarded by boss

Hello Sir, I have watched your videos and I must say, it does help a lot :).
Regarding having courage to raise voice against something that is not right, I think sometimes the wrong things are very subtle and some toxic people are also very smart to hide their toxic character. It is very difficult to do anything against them because what they are doing is never explicit. For example, in my case, I have tried to directly talk to the person I have had problems with just to sort out, he will make it look as if I am imagining, which is 100% not the case.

Ankur - What if the super boss is more chilled than the immediate boss & you realise that their intentions are indeed purely to discount the visibility & credibility of employee !! you have great wisdom - pls tell honestly ‘ don’t you think in today’s cooperate world - majority of bosses do this and it’s actual personal. I deal with majority of these top heads and see them discounting their subordinate works for getting the complete credit !!

I'm in a strange situation. I've been working with my company for over a year. My values align with company values and my performance has been well appreciated by my team members and colleagues. Recently, I decided to relocate with my husband in Poland. I'm currently living in India. The company is downgrading my permanent employee contract to a 6 month contract.
My manager told me that they're not going to raise my salary as per company policy. I'll still get my Indian wage. Also, since the company will be bearing the extra cost of hiring me, I'll be on trial for 6 months to *prove* my worth by improving my soft skills. And on asking, manager told me that the goals he's asking me to achieve are immeasurable and cannot be quantified. I'm demotivated and disheartened. I've contributed the best I could to deliver value. He told me that I'm exceptional and then proceeds to say that somehow these soft skills will prove my worth. The soft skills here are mostly interpersonal communication skills. I'm in a technical role that doesn't rely so heavily on communication. This situation tears down my morale. Can someone suggest what can be done in this situation?

The things that most new, capable people face at their new offices can be explained using the example of how elephants are tamed. After being caught they are left with their hind legs tied to a pole until they stop struggling and trying to escape. After some time the elephant loses confidence and hope and becomes easy to domesticate and train.

I have faced this in my previous organization with my reporting manager, who was the assistant manager back then. It was my 1st job and the friction (which I never showed to her) got so so bad that when I gave my 2 cents on it directly to the Assistant Vice President, his reaction was astounding. I had such high hopes from the AVP, really looked up to him for his work ethics but what a HYPOCRITE. Totally indifferent. GOD!! Sometimes I wonder that my resignation was a blessing in disguise, else I never would have seen their true faces.

what you talked about was only one aspect of office politics. In IT industries , we are seeing that deliberately we are not assigned challenging work , so as to give us opportunities to grow. Most of the creative work is handled by onsite team . Team members not willing to transfer knowledge to new comers . This is very difficult situation for a new comer because she/he dosent want to be in bad light of colleagues and also they have to deliver something within a short span .

How to identify whether a person/colleague of yours has personal vendetta against you or he/she is just part of the system?

Hi Ankur this is my daughter's experience with a company: she went for intership to a company. There she faced very bad toxic environment. The manager assigned threatened to cause physical harm threatening director of company will throw laptop on her face. A few week before this incident she saw him openly sniffing napkin lying on his chair with eyes partially closed. She talked about this to her co female colleagues but they told her to go sut beside ceo and watch movies like 50 shades of gray as the movie matched the companies situation. Some person or other from management followed her even at breakfast too if she spoke about this he showed her his hand in slapping gestures. What are your thoughts about this company.

How about making a video on "why and how to refrain from doing office politics"? 🤔

  • @animeshbhattacharya9057

But how can I get to know how the leader of my company behaves especially when you work in a big corporate MNC .
My incident of office politics is that my manager gave me the lowest rating in appraisals despite my working hard through the year.

    • @warikoo
      @warikoo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The leader isn’t necessarily the ceo. It can be the leader of the unit or the country team too. Someone who is responsible for the way things are done at the setup. Question for you: why do you think your manager gave you the lowest ratings. What was the intent?

    • @animeshbhattacharya9057
      @animeshbhattacharya9057 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@warikoo I have been asking the same question myself. You see there are two things in our company - one is rating (which is indicator of performance ) and another is band ( which decides our increment ). They are supposed to be interdependent but they are not. In reality Bands are distributed based on profits earned by a particular unit. My rating is almost same as last year, but my band is lower than last year. Though we don't have any increments this year due to Covid situation but a lower band does look band in your profile.
I tried to reason that maybe my manager may want to encourage me work harder by giving a low band, but if that's the case then it's not helping as I believe I worked harder than my previous year's performance.

Animesh, In this case face to face conversation with your manager will help you in great deal. Taking feedback is employees responsibility.

Sorry but in my situation it's the juniors in age and experience who are creating a very disturbing working environment for me.
To me what I console myself is that...when I feel like arguing with them..I think that these things makes sense
    1. They are anyway not going to accept the fact even if I provide them with solid proofs
    2. I'm not here to correct their behaviour which they have developed from 20 years
    3. The best part is to ignore them, till they come and explode to you that why aren't we paying attention to them, and then clearly tell the fact that even if I say my point, you will not take it, so I feel it's better I don't want to waste time on something which is typically of no use to me.
Above all give them that insecure feeling that if not this opportunity I have thousands of options outside.
