JamesHoneyman-Scott was a truly incredible guitarist, such a terrible loss-He would have been the best guitarist of the eighties and possibly 90's. He lays it down something fierce and can "wig out a groove"(as Steve Lukather says) with the best of them. You were truly tremendous my friend."Mystery Achievement" guitar solo top 10 ever!!!
Mystery Achievement has to be their best song. I would just love to hear a version where Christie would hold that high note when singing "Oh my my" or when she sings "So unreal." I just love the way she sings those lines but it is so short-lived it's a tease.
The debut album by this group was phenomenal what tight band they were.. unfortunately tragedy struck when they lost two memebers of the band .. they stayed together however nothing ever could live up to all the original band memebers I saw them in concert at the US festival in 1983 very good live!!
I've just recently started looking for live stuff of the original line up and they just blow me away. I know it has been said many times but my God what a great band this was. Love.
His body of work was so small... I mean... he was a kid when he died.... He was a monster and totally fearless which brought so insane improvisation... He was a total high wire act live......
@motorcaster57 In interviews he admitted he wasn't great at correct timing and often faked it. The ultimate PRETENDER but what a badass anyway! RIP JHS we love you!!! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I saw these folks in Pittsburgh in about 1980. My girlfriend at the time said that this group from Ohio was coming to Hampton High School. I still remember them showing up on a basic van, an then rocking the place.... Awesome concert, still, 30 year ago.
I was a little to young to see them (no car, no freedom) I have a friend just a few years older who saw them during their first tour, and he has been to many many concerts-to this day, he says it was the greatest band he’s ever seen live.
Green Serpentine buildings everywhere! The joke back then was "When you go through West Chester, you go in High and come out Gay! (These are street names) Maybe I got it backwards...I lived there right after high school BTW.
One of best songs live there will be a there band like them greatest guitar players of all time James.h. Scott rest in peace I don't think not one person right now today can match his awesome guitar playing I love that sound I love to create it to him and Chrissy hire head together the other two members of this great and fine and the drum plan was good but not like James James brought a totally different sound prose album the second album was unbelievable he never had a chance to finish a third album in 1982 that's when he checked out in the middle of June too bad it would have been great to see what would have became obvious and I'm sure the whole world will agree the four five and learning how to crawl it's okay but not like the first one
At around the 2:15 mark, it appears that Chrissie forgets the lyrics to the second verse. Either that or something distracted her, she looks to her left just before her slip up. She saves it by transitioning back into the lyrics from the first verse. She does it so well that I watched this video three times before I noticed it. That's a real pro move to pull off so seamlessly.
saw them in 83 I think in Raleigh on the "learning to crawl" tour... Martin Chambers was a bad ass... I can only imagine them with Honeymoon!!!! Robbie McIntosh did well but there was no way anyone could match Honey's feel for that band... He owned those riffs and there were never anymore awesome guitar riffs but the good songs did keep coming and they stayed relavant for so long....
Wow, I’m sorry to say, but Honeyman-Scott is just out of it in the video and Pete’s like, “What are you doing?”. Chrissie Hynde is trying to keep things together.
I love the original line up of the pretenders, easily one of the greatest debuts of all time: band was tight, incredible lead guitar, rhythm section, and of course Chrissy’s writing and singing. But this performance is really out of control, Honeyman-Scott is just barely keeping it together, he’s overplaying and sloppy, the rhythm section isn’t steady, even Martin isn’t his usual reliable self, we won’t even talk about how bad the backing vocals are; Chrissy is the only thing in this that is right in this performance. I’ve heard other live performances where they are just the transcendent, maybe the greatest thing to ever happen in rock and roll, but this isn’t one of them. Sadly, the drugs were taking its toll on Pete and Jim, and it shows.
Nah. She used to play a Jaguar way back. She’s playing a strat here because the equipment was delayed in traffic. So none of them had their regular instruments and used these loaner ones
It wasn't turned off, it was equipment failure. You can see him struggling to fix it on the pedalboard. Maybe a bad connection between the guitar, effects, and amp.
Too bad the mix was so terrible in this recording. They were usually much better during the 1981 tour when everything came together with the band and tech. But even a bad Pretenders recording is still good.

Every day every night time I FIND
Mystery Achievement
YOU'RE ON MY MIND YOURE ON MY MIIIINNDDD 😂😊

I’d hope HBO or Showtime would make a documentary about the original lineup of The Pretenders and how beautifully short lived it was
I've just recently started looking for live stuff of the original line up and they just blow me away.
I know it has been said many times but my God what a great band this was.
Love.
Jimmy Scott is one of the most underrated guitarists in the history of rock
His body of work was so small... I mean... he was a kid when he died.... He was a monster and totally fearless which brought so insane improvisation... He was a total high wire act live......

This line up was pure as is gets.
Saw them September 25th, 1981 in Columbus Ohio. Just a couple hours south of where Chrissie grew up. Might have been the best concert ever!!
This is Rock -n- Roll Baby!!! The way it was meant to be!!!
James just shredded through it and the band even quieted down for him!!
The drums, guitar riffs are just total non-stop headbanging. Brilliant
i didnt realize how good a guitar play honeyman was. he rocks.
Honeyman was frigging amazing. RIP
That's a great drum song to learn when you want to kick the living shit out of someone.

5:14 Martin knocks over the cymbal stand, tech runs out on stage to put it back up, dude was hittin' hard that night
James Honeyman-Scott sounds like a a raging storm off on the side of the stage.
Mz Hynde is a poet of our generation
From a woman's perspective.
I was a little to young to see them (no car, no freedom) I have a friend just a few years older who saw them during their first tour, and he has been to many many concerts-to this day, he says it was the greatest band he’s ever seen live.
Went to the concert in April 84 at Aragon Ball Room in Chicago. Miss going to concerts
Yep, I was there. So long ago... I remember an inordinate amount of weed being smoked.
I just saw them at the Chicago theater last night! Still rocking.
James Honeyman Scott and Randy Rhodes: 2 guitar virtuosos both died in 1982.
That's a terrific screen name, my friend. Thanks for the post.
My sandy beach❤
Thanks !
Thank you!
Get in our road❤
So excellent. I saw them back then. At what was west Chester state college in pa. Never forget
Green Serpentine buildings everywhere! The joke back then was "When you go through West Chester, you go in High and come out Gay! (These are street names) Maybe I got it backwards...I lived there right after high school BTW.
@@effsixteenblock50 that statement was true haha
Chrissie and Jimmy have the same guitars and very similar stage clothes.

How I wish I was there!
just awesome

It’s because James is too freaking loud!!! 🏆😂
@@carnivalimusic - Your right. That's the downside of turning your amp up to 11. 😉
Watch closely at the end.she is pissed when she leaves the stage .something was wrong and she didn't like it! Love chrissie 😀👍

I agree. Where's the background vocal harmony from 4:00 to 4:30 that makes this song great.
They burn even brighter because they only existed for a few years. Two PRETENDERS albums. The rest were Chrissie Hynde 'and Band'.
What's with the background vocals?
Honeyman-Scott was going to have guitarist Billy Bremner join the line up.
Damn Jimmy, wringing that Strats neck, high as he'll. 😁
Fark yeah!
Wow, I’m sorry to say, but Honeyman-Scott is just out of it in the video and Pete’s like, “What are you doing?”. Chrissie Hynde is trying to keep things together.
It’s crazy to think the day after Pete turned 30 he was fired from the Pretenders and 2 days later James dies.
First one heroin, the second a bad heart, and maybe too much cocaine.
멋있어요.
pretenders ROCK

You don't know rock you A-HOLE🥸
Is this the only gig where Chrissie played a Strat instead of her usual Tele?
Nah. She used to play a Jaguar way back.
She’s playing a strat here because the equipment was delayed in traffic. So none of them had their regular instruments and used these loaner ones
@@ozdeveraux2082 Thanks!
@not jeffrey Yes, I've seen her with that SG.
The drummer didn’t do the drum fills in the middle of the song like the record? Why though?
James Honeyman Scott
That's all
The sound gets a little fucked up on this one. Harmony vocals sound pretty struggled. Still, great energy!
Agree.. still love it though!
What happened to the rippen solo? Too bad.
🫰🏻😁 좋아요
They were kind of a big deal.
This is nasty stuff from the anglo-american band! Real nitty-gritty rock n' roll!!
ladies and gentlemen
The guitar cuts out as he starts his solo. That sucks.
why was James' sound turned down and almost off toward the end. What is going on here?
It wasn't turned off, it was equipment failure. You can see him struggling to fix it on the pedalboard. Maybe a bad connection between the guitar, effects, and amp.
is there anyone listening
Guess the others just wernt talented singers like Chrissie.. Oh well..
That was a mess. A glorious mess, but dang, not enough sleep and too much coke?

Too bad the mix was so terrible in this recording. They were usually much better during the 1981 tour when everything came together with the band and tech. But even a bad Pretenders recording is still good.
What a disaster.
how and why does Chrissie call James a "rhythm"guitarist when he clearly was lead and she was rhythm? Ego.
Jimmy didn’t like the term lead. He didn’t like being called the lead guitarist. He’s said it a bunch.
Don’t make assumptions about ego.
painfull backround vocal laziness
maple neck strat
suck background vox
The guitar ruined it.
Hendrix did a good verson of this song on one of his albums--- < way better than this >🤚👳♂️😭
What a sloppy mess.
Should have. Joined the pretenders when the bassist dyed
Just awesome
