  • Join me in my 1967 Triumph Vitesse 2 Litre as I take part in Ipswich Transport Museum's annual rally from Christchurch Park to Felixstowe Sea Front and look at a selection of the county's most beautiful historic vehicles assembling in Ipswich ready to parade.

    Thank you so much for a wonderful episode just perfect.
    The buses brought back long ago memories of the various companies that used to provide the service. I also have reluctantly to admit as a small boy to having Ian Allan books for bus spotting!!
    Thank you also patiently filming each of the arrivals- I got the Jensen ( but not many others.

      I am so pleased you enjoyed this. I miss the liveries of the old bus and haulage firms. My memory is of the buses vibrating at idle enough to rattle your fillings.

      I, too, had several of the Ian Allen bus spotting books - mostly for London Transport, because I grew up in Middlesex, but also for the South Coast - e.g. Bournemouth Corporation, Hants and Dorset, Wilts and Dorset, Gosport, etc, as our family always spent our summer holidays in the Bournemouth/Boscombe area. It was, for me, in any case, a fascinating hobby - many a happy hour spent hanging out at the garages, ticking off the vehicles seen.

      Thanks Mike. It's the variety of cars that always astonishes me. The numbers of people who turn out each year to cheer us, reminds me of how much affection the public hold for our old vehicles.

    Well done Sean. It is difficult to capture just how big the gathering in the park is and the number of people who come out to watch along the roadside. The distance covered by cars along the prom must run into miles now. Very grateful I've got an automatic Triumph to use for this event. 😂 Great day out with perfect weather.

    Hello Sean! That looks like a superb show - I would liked to have been there! My son and I make a point of visiting an annual show, held close to home in one of Cape Town's Southern Suburbs. It always has a really good selection of classic and vintage cars and bikes, but where it does fall short of your show is in the actual excursion and the fine collection of heavy vehicles. Who doesn't love fire engines, for example?! Thanks for such an excellent and enjoyable video!

    • @seanhumfrey
      @seanhumfrey  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Colin, I think you are right. More fire engines 👍and buses. Next year I probably need to skip the meeting in the park and set my camera up on the road into Felixstowe to get the big vehicles coming in. If you search You Tube for Ipswich and Felixstowe historic vehicle run, you will see other people have done precisely that over the years and there are some wonderful films of the same event.

      @@seanhumfrey Hi Sean, I've been watching the video for the run, from Carguy 123. A really great turnout of all sorts of vehicles, including three or four Vitesse convertibles! The heavy vehicles are really something, too - especially the military recovery units - Thorneycrofts? Here's to next year's event!

    I was one of the few last classics to leave the park and took me 2 hours to reach Felixtowe Prom when marshals were about to call it a day for any more cars arriving, and was not impressed as was my first time with this event, perhaps next year will get there dead early for a clear run through

    • @seanhumfrey
      @seanhumfrey  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Gosh Derek, that is a real shame. I have never had that experience myself. I know that there were roadworks into Felixstowe causing traffic build ups generally. I hope you do join us next year. You know what I drive, come and say hello 👋😀

    • @danielhillier7417
      @danielhillier7417 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its a fantastic event, at the end of the day the organisers cant control how busy the roads are, there's always a bit of traffic because over 600 old vehicles are all going the same way at the same time along with normal road traffic. I was amongst the first to leave in the Saab 95 and I think it still took me about 1hr 20mins. I hope it doesn't put you off too much, the incredible weather and the fact it was a bank holiday definitely made it much busier too.

    Something I have noticed a lack of early Japanese cars of the 60s 70s at these shows, having owned a MK II Toyota Celica from the mid 70s. Also the very collectable Datsun 240Z.

    • @seanhumfrey
      @seanhumfrey  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, and it such a shame. I wonder if our friends in NZ and Australia have a different experience? I would love to see a few Toyota Crowns, corollas and coronas, not to mention the Datsuns 100 to 180 saloons and coupes and the rare Mazdas from that era. Are the survivors all in California?
