WHY is Last Action Hero so maligned as both a film and pinball machine? Both are really LOTS of FUN...Todd Tuckey explores some of the great features of this game and some memorable lines from the movie too!
You know, LAH is a good movie and its a lot of fun to watch but it gets a bad rap. I think people just don't get the premise of the movie so its highly underrated. Its actually really clever and a good time! Just like Data East pinballs! The DE's kinda get forgotten about but they make some really awesome and underrated pinballs!
A lot of the DE games, if they said Bally or Williams on them instead, would be worth twice as much! Personally. I'm happy to be able to get an awesome pinball at a great price with Data East!
Love your videos. First channel I check when I get home everyday. I would definitely opt for the upgraded backglass. With a signature you could flip it for double. Hope your tv show gets picked up. I'm sure ya got loads of people wanting dedications, if you could dedicate one for me. Keep em coming. Big Fan , Victor Preslar from Bakersfield , C.A.
I needed some solder spots reflowed but not my relays... Real problem with the LAH pin (like many Data Easts) the fuse clips were broken. I had to changed nearly all the fuse clips in my machine.. including some of the smaller boards inside the cabinet. And changed pretty much all the caps on all the boards.
Yes...Data East used a poor grade apparently...this happened within a few years of the release of those power supplies...we find fuses soldered to the remaining tabs all the time!
oh, thats a big job . I changed caps on a PC once. pretty amazed it started after that . If there is alot of heat and action . The tin can melt, and desolder its own wires . Hard action !
I enjoyed the film aswell, shame it was panned by critics but hey its cheesy 90's fun :) I noticed that someone has now created a custom back glass of the movie poster, which was a really good idea, looks cool aswell. Gets rid of that massive arnie face that looks like one of those cheap cardboard celebrity masks haha. "Rubber baby buggy bumpers!"
Cirqus Voltaire had a similar thing with virtual locks. I played one recently where the magnet on top of the high wire was conked out and it would say the ball was locked anyhow, just not show the trapezist animation on the display and when you did get multiball it'd just kick out three balls from the plunger of its own volition.
HI Todd, Good video and good machine. I can't see where the touchup work was done. Looks good but can't quite see the detail in video. Can't wait to the next video
Thanks!!! Who Done It and Congo are next pinballs coming through. Deluxe Space Invaders, Dance Dance Revolution and ALley Cats Shuffle Alley are next too!
Todd, I've been watching your videos for over a year now. I have to ask, how many hours do you and the guys work each day? It seems that you may be working from morning until night in some cases? Is that true or do you have different shifts? I'm just curious because it really seems like you guys are working 12 hour days on a regular basis.
Well, it does vary...but I get in about 9:30am and usually stay on Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri till 9-10pm...wed we always close at 5pm...and many times i do not come in at all. Sat, we are here 10am to 7pm at latest....Sunday closed, except we do have private parties here at tnt pretty much all day sunday, but our girls run them...no men needed!
One of my favs. I also own this baby. I can't wait to show you my finished product. I have all the bells and whistles going in this thing. Including lights in the scoops that I have seen you do on other machines. LED flipper buttons,LED DMD, underglow kit, etc. are going in too. Although, maybe you can give me some assistance on something? I recently bought a new power supply for the game. Although the power supply HAD a defect and fried my old HV DMD, and possibly my sound board. Cause there is no more sound. I have the correct voltages going to and from the board. No sound. The speakers work because I can touch R16 with my DMM and I get a local AM Radio station to play through the speakers. Any troubleshooting ideas you can throw me? Thanks for sharing!
When you first turn the game on, if your sound board makes music/voice in the startup, it means the problem is from logic board or sound board imputs. BUT...if your sound board remains quiet when you first turn it on, the problem HAS to be in the sound board. Could be the processor is dead---but the amplifier would continue to run. Also, I am assuming the sound board is getting 5 volts okay?
yea, no sound from arnold on boot up. The power supply was from XPin. Brett Davis is working with me to get it repaired. I have recap'd the board verified all components except for the rom chips. All voltages are correct. Brett has sent me a new power supply that is working great and replaced the dmd that the last one cooked. Now on to the sound board. I was just checking to see if you had any other thoughts about troubleshooting that I haven't tried yet. Also, my crane doesn't shake that much due to the extra stabilizers i have in place. I can't imagine this game without the shaker going. Not to mention the 600W sub that i have under the machine. The EXPLOSIONS are great! Keep making videos Todd! Love your work.
Hey love your stuff. I just did a Pinball repair, it was the Last Action hero. Pal `o mine complained the M-Ball plunger coil was defect, and a 10A fuse had gone on the vertical panel, and the game rebooted during play. I removed the coil, brought it home. uncoiled a few turns checked for burns, but clean wire. I sanded the terminals, bough a new 1N4007 diode and soldered it on . Replaced the 10A fuse. It worked like a dream . Out of nowehere, it also stopped rebooting . Smooth . yea and were also short of one of the plastic spring letters in CHASE, you got one for spare ?
There is a place West of the next town that is a dry cleaner, laundromat, and car wash. They had a pinball in the laundromat. I wanted to play it after dropping off pants to be hemmed. But someone was always playing it. I did notice the flippers were not in great shape. I never used the laundromat as I have my own washer and dryer. Now the last time I was back there the pinball is gone and now three video games. I am still looking for an arcade.
Maaaan, you said the word "Multiball", how could you?? It has "M-Ball" :-D ... Seriously back then Williams copyrighted the word and Data East was not allowed to use it. If I remember correctly, that was a) changed for later games, and b) Gottlieb always was allowed - maybe WMS didn't think of Gottlieb as real competition ;)...
Where do we order an autographed, 8x10 paper version, of that Todd the Action Hero backglass!?!? Shouldn't the TNT fan club be getting one in the mail?
Hi Todd can you PLEASE dedicate a show 4 me, but I'm not buying anything :] I live on Mars the planet , you know the 1, great viewing keep up the good work, this is miles better than any of the show's on the DISCOVERY CHANNEL
First time I felt a shaker motor when i played this a week or so ago. Crazy. Exciting.

You are 100% right!! About bothe the Movie and Data East!

looks great Todd. good idea on switching the shaker motor off, all that jerkin around cant do that crane any good. mines going off now.
Yes...its quite a shaking! Many customers just unplug it from the front of the game...very easy!
Best intro music.

"Rubber baby buggy bumpers!"
Sadly misunderstood...I think it may get a cult following that grows each year!

Yes...a stuck switch will do that!

I dont have any extra parts other than standard stuif we get from Pinball Resource
@@tntamusements Thanks ! Amazing resource. The part is most likably produced easiest by 3D printing . Now I need one of those :)
They got the license to do the Pinball Arcade version of LAST ACTION HERO PINBALL>
+Nicholas Serio Thats good...it will expose so many people to this fun game!
does that topper light up the police sirens?
yes it does!
Congo video please!!
That will be coming!

Lyle Johnson They probably appeal to the neighborhood kids more!
This game just came out for PINBALL ARCADE. Trouble is, unless you paid for the season or you paid for the game, you can only play the trial version.
+Nicholas Serio Those CREEPS!
YEAH, I know Todd....Now I can play the game on Pinball Arcade.
You have to pay money to buy a pinball. You have to pay money to play a pinball at the arcade. Unless I am not understanding what you really meant
Todd ... non of the 89 bulbs (under play field and in back light box) work. Ideas on what’s causing this ?
on power supply, there is ONE fuse of the four in a row that run the flash lamps
TNT Amusements Inc - Interesting ... I ran diagnostics and flashers work fine in test mode but still not working at all in game play
I loved the movie it's really funny. I don't think a lot of the audience got the movie cliche gags.
It requires repeated viewings!
Awesome!!!
:-)
gee woulda helped handing out cigars at least they get mouth cancer :P and it's in the movie :P (they are re releasing the blu ray shortly
hmm frank burps hope that means he's not gonna blow up like in the movie (think this guy (name) is gonna pass gas for the last time smh) whoops

M-ball!! Yes...you are right...Williams had the copyright on that term!!!
Where do we order an autographed, 8x10 paper version, of that Todd the Action Hero backglass!?!?
Shouldn't the TNT fan club be getting one in the mail?
Someone just made me a Who Done It custom backglass...wait until you see that!!
Hi Todd can you PLEASE dedicate a show 4 me, but I'm not buying anything :]
