I think this is a great piece of advice for a small % of people, yes there are people that have issues/injuries that make it difficult if not dangerous for them to squat, but there are many who use them as excuses. I'm 60 and have always enjoyed squatting. A couple of years ago I gave up squatting because I was advised to by a trainer because I had back, knee and shoulder issues. Squatting is so much more than a leg exercise that I think if I can't do anything else I will continue to squat.

Hey John, recently Ive came across your videos on youtube and this one has really changed my overall experience with training legs. I have always done legs once a week with a heavy barbell squats day and struggled to make them grow. I now try my best to hit legs twice a week one day being my traditional barbell squat day and the other using this method/workout. Its been about a month now of doing this consistently and I can already see amazing results. Between the added volume and pre-exhaustion this routine offers it has been making a huge difference. Just wanted to say thank you for this awesome advice!
I will do this workout today. Thank you John for all that you do, even though you are no longer with us. Im getting jacked and a big part of it is because of your videos. Rest Easy mountain dog.
I agree!! Over the last two decades or so, men's thighs have become something to hide!! You should have seen us gym kids in the 70's and 80's - we wore short shorts!!
Been loving the clusters lately. The intensity's built in: follow instructions and the pain follows. Doesn't take the mental toughness, seems to me, it takes to make straight sets hard.
RIP Coach. I wish I’d found this while you were still around. I did this workout 2 days ago and I can still barely walk. Legit brutal in every way. Especially my quads. I can barely walk down my driveway. Lol. I absolutely love it and will be making this a regular part of my leg routine.
Looking great, John! Super solid video, as always. I’m 38 and I also avoid heavy squats these days, for general fear of getting hurt, and needed some alternate exercises to develop growth. Thanks man, and keep the content coming! Hope you and your family and safe and happy.

@@rituchoudhary8428 At the time I lost some of my upper body muscle mass because I just couldn't train it! I had to cut down my overall calorie intake but I kept my protein intake high, close to 1gram of protein per (lean) pound of body weight. For protein supplements I used 50% Whey and 50% Egg White powder, it's what Frank Zane used (perhaps still uses)! The whey is quick release and the egg white is slow release. If you're wanting to gain muscle you have to eat a calorific surplus most days. You will gain some fat but if you do it cleanly hopefully not too much. It really is 60% diet and 40% training. Good luck!

John, great workout. I've been having growth success with pointing my toes on leg curls to build the lower hamstrings. Totally different feel and growth in a weaker part of my legs that I needed for side poses. Growth protocol has been 4 sets 20, 15,15,12. Tempo 2:1:3. 5th set is a triple drop 10,10,10. Did this workout today, absolutely awesome! Best leg pump I've ever had! Not for the faint of heart, that's for sure. Thanks John!!
I just dont get it why you don't have a million subs yet. One of the most prominent figures in training and taking us to school for bodybuilding related topics. Thanks John.
Maybe one day!
Rest in Peace good man and beautiful soul
I Know this amazing guy is gone 😢But I want to thank his family or friend for keeping his videos going, I am learning a lot from him and slowly changing my life ❤
Hey John, recently Ive came across your videos on youtube and this one has really changed my overall experience with training legs.
If I had legs like John I would wear shorter shorts, especially when training. Show off those legs. 👍
You work hard enough for legs like that. Dedication, discipline. Show them off. 👍
I agree!! Over the last two decades or so, men's thighs have become something to hide!! You should have seen us gym kids in the 70's and 80's - we wore short shorts!!
@@Leftatalbuquerque thats awesome!
Like Mike Tyson back in the 80s. Short shorts look fruity on most men, but Tyson made it look tough.
i wouldnt
John, I have WATCHED a lot of guys, but I have to say you have become a favorite. There is zero ego unlike most guys on here. Thanks
Been loving the clusters lately. The intensity's built in: follow instructions and the pain follows. Doesn't take the mental toughness, seems to me, it takes to make straight sets hard.
Like this guy,easy explained,straight forward,no bullshit.
Great tips as always, but I won't use it because I love heavy squats! Squats, hack squats, leg presses and RDLs are all what I need 😁.
It amazes me the amount of knowledge I missed out on man, by not following his content sooner. The man was a true gem.
I cheated on reps just watching the video. Great content as always.
Hope you and your family and safe and happy.
messed up my lower back last time i squatted, taking a break and doing rehab on it as i wait for my first inzer powerlifting belt. this video came at just the right time. THANKS!!!
This routine sounds great for someone limited on time, as I am 5 days a week. Gonna give this a shot. Thanks and RIP John Meadows.
How can someone like him pass away don't get it he looks great and is breathing great
This guy lives on. Found this channel a while after his death, was gutted to find out he's no longer around, but luckily the information he put out is still here and a lot of it has been tremendously beneficial to my own lifts. Rest in peace, big guy!
Just completed this. The pump was amazing. I liked how it really put the focus on the targeted muscles. I was almost cramping on the leg curls. 👍🏻
Love you brother. You are greatly missed.
Again love the knowledge u bring to the table I've been bodybuilding for many years but the success u have had and how humble u r I'm impressed thanks for all your tips
I appreciate that
Your information and Videos are raw real and authentic and most importantly spot on. Thank you very much. This is coming from someone who’s been working out for 40 years. I appreciate what you do.
My new leg routine. Squats kill my lower back, even 225lbs. Thanks for this.
How do you like it?
I trust every thing this man states. My rear delts been on fire all day taking your advice. Thank you good Sir!
Really can’t thank you enough. I struggle with squats due to ankle mobility and lower back pain. Definitely will be doin this tomorrow
Great to see a professional say he made a mistake! Guys full of knowledge.
4:50 the way he is locking his knees hurts my soul
I love it when you say, alright- hi everybody !... You would have been a great teacher to boot !!!
Doing this for leg day today. Thanks John, RIP ❤
I've just done this workout this morning. Safe to say my legs were fired up. Thank you John, Rest in power mate.
On my way to the gym right now. It's legday. What a great timing! Greetings from Germany!
Always have to come back and revisit Johns workouts. I’d forgotten this one but my back thanks him. Hope his family is doing well!
My two Thighs put together, are still no way near as large as one of Johns, God dang. Goals.....damn Johns a machine!! 👍
Mate Johns calves are bigger than my thighs.
Ok I'm subscribing to the channel. I'm 53 years old, 5/9, 185lbs, been working out on & off sense I was 19.
I do workout hard, but I'm stuck with the basic's so hopefully some new tips like this coming from John will help me grow more muscle. Thanks
I had an accident and couldn’t lift for 18 months I’d just do legs presses 3 times a week but man my legs got big and strong!!
Please tell me more about your diet as well did uh gain muscle or fat🥲 I'm in need
Good luck!
@@boxdelux6591 tysm😊💕!!! Means a lot uh replied! Clean bulking is sure gonna be hard but worth a big try
Love this, rip John....always kindly shared his knowledge and superb tips to help others improve..his life impacted millions 🙏
Dorian Yates would certainly approve of this video
Sometimes, I imagine DY's trainer yelling at me to get 1 more rep.
RIP brother. Thank you for your great contributions.
Just wanted to say that I’m really glad you’re doing ok after that scary heart attack you had recently. Wishing you all the best and good health going forward, and from one fitness pro to another, I appreciate all the hard work and good info you provide people with on your channel. 💪👍
Of all the fitness channels I have watched, there is something deeply sincere about you. It's inspiring and generous. Wishing you greater success with your transformational work. Greetings from Singapore.
He died a year ago
Haha, I love your logic on the ham curls. 'Ah, we'll do... 20 seconds, that'll hurt'
I’m glad I’m not the only one who looks like I’m in grueling pain on leg extension. John left an abundance of practical knowledge for us.
The man himself😭😭🤝 rip big man rest up!
Thanks! 49 years old & degenerative disc disease runs in my family ( my dad has it bad). I'm fine and have a pretty strong back, just not crazy about squatting tons of weight on my shoulders & putting all that pressure on my spine. These are nice alternatives
Belt Squat is amazing too. My gym has that machine but I haven’t found it anywhere else.
I love how his legs look so amazing despite him not squatting in a while and his age
I keep going through this man's quality videos frequently now and only recently have I stumbled upon the channel.. sad to know he passed away, hope he rests easy
I do legs 2x/week and i feel like it’s been getting hard on my back and knees. This gives me an idea of what I can do when I want to skip the squats. Might alternate this with my usual leg days and see what happens. Thanks!!
Once a week is plenty
@@zman8340 no
@@Shvabicu work them hard enough and it is …. I assure you . Even platz says so .
@@zman8340 you shouldn't work them so hard that you can only train them once a week. Splitting that volume across 2 workouts will yield better results
@@Shvabicu well what works it different for everybody, I’m not saying always go that hard on legs obviously. However there are times when you are changing your treating routine or trying to hit new goals. Legs being so large they can be worked very hard . With good results .
Miss Mountaindog 😢 I personally have gotten in better shape cause of his free advice and tips, he always replied to my questions he was a real human with huge heart! About to try this workout today thanks John 🙏🏽
45 minutes in and out the gym, most pumped up busted up my legs have been since starting training. This sequence works great if you can dig deep and not short yourself on the intensity
Holy shit this workout is kicking my ass. I’m a 38 yo former competitive powerlifter and offensive lineman with 90 yo man knees. My heart rate got up to 177 during my 25 leg press reps and my quads are fried before even moving into lunges. My knees feel great after the 6 rep speed warmup on extension too! Think I found my new leg workout! Thanks!
Holy smokes the pump is unreal.
The ONLY bodybuilder loved by everyone in the industry. RIP brother. Doing this workout today in your memory.
I wonder if there is anyone that developed their legs by doing just unilateral exercises such as Lunges and Bulgarian Splits? There have to be a few!
