I don't know if it's just me, but this dance brings peace, the culture is admirable and the lady who dances is a total beauty, I think I've fallen in love.
I just came from your other vid and I'm so eager to learn this dance. You put so much passion and respect for it that's why it came out gracefully. 🥺❤️
Great job, very artistic and nice to see that hula dance done in it's entirely. And that you did the saying at the end makes it more enjoyable. Shows respect for the dance and culture.
OMG, this was so good! Please do a step by step tutorial, that would be so awesome! What I am really impressed by is how natural you look and that you show the foot-dance sequence at 2:07. I haven't seen anyone perform that, yet.
I haven't made a step by step tutorial, but I did make a mirrored dance version so that people could learn it! The link to that video is in the description above. Happy dancing!
2:06 best part of the video because nobody else has put this in there video, you did, woe you can dance fully that dance move just topped the hole video, amazing
I've made a mirrored dance version of this for exactly that reason! lol. It's not a step-by-step tutorial, but it should be MUUUCH easier to learn from. There's a link to it in the description of this video. Happy dancing!
I don't think I'll end up doing a step by step, unfortunately. I promise that you CAN learn from the mirrored one, but to help, here’s my tips on how to practice: First, warm up to some actual hula teachers on youtube! Type in “hula warmup” and try some you see come up. It’s great to be warm before you practice, and the techniques you practice in hula warmups can directly be applied in this dance. Next, when you first start practicing, click the settings gear on the video, then select .5 playback speed. This is how I start practicing any mirrored dance. The idea isn’t to make it pretty yet, the idea is to move slow and start getting a feel for where your body needs to be in space. (This .5 speed section is where I do the most repetition. I will dance for 5 seconds, while watching the video intently, then click back and repeat, repeat, repeat, until I’m not depending on watching the video to go through the moves. Like I said, this part won’t feel pretty. Don’t worry. )
After .5 speed, I pick it up to .75 speed and repeat. At this level, I start paying attention more to HOW the dancers are moving, since .75 speed allows you to more naturally move than .5 (which is too slow to feel natural). Start improving how you step and how you move your hands based on what the dancers do, rather than just making sure you step and move to the right timing.
And after.75, put it at the natural speed and practice ALL over again! As you feel more solid, then think about the performative touches. Smiling, making sure you’re looking the right direction (in hula, your face is often following the direction of the hands), and working on soft hands and feet that press into the floor, are all things to think about at the end. Those are the steps, but note, I don’t learn the WHOLE dance .5 speed then do the whole dance .75, etc. I work in SECTIONS, half to full speed, and then add the next section once I feel good. When you watch my mirrored video, look at the letters I’ve assigned to the reference footage. This is how I sectioned out my practice. AND, when you see a letter come back, that means you’ve already done the section and it’s being repeated! The song is 2:27 long but the actual moves you have to learn are much less than that! Huzzah! lol. Also, jumping between speeds as you practice is just fine. Sometimes I go to full speed when I know I’m not ready, just to stumble through the moves and feel it out before going back. I hope this helps! Practicing mirrored dances can be daunting at first, but with repetition, practice, and determination, you can absolutely do it!

You danced like Stitch
It may not be the exact dance for this song but its still beautiful. I like how you made it your own rendition.
😍
I want to learn, any tips?
Go to a halau in your area. That is a hula school. Treat hula with respect
How long do you take to learn the dance because I really want to learn it?
Is there any teaching?

What are the last spoken words...????
"He Inoa No Kalani Kalākaua, Kulele!" roughly translates to "In the name of Chief Kalākaua, cast forth!" Kalākaua was the last king of Hawaii.
is your voice? 2:22
